@davepeters3317 I agree with a lot of this. I watch these videos because I find the interactions fascinating when there is resistance to what the auditor is doing. The ones where it is immediately apparent that the company are not offering resistance and engage in friendly chats I stop watching as it's boring and as you say I couldn't be remotely interested in what the roof of their building looks like from the drone camera or indeed what the company do and I find it comical that the auditor tries to make out that their watchers find that interesting. However when there is a strange man masked up outside with a camera, whilst I would expect staff to come out and ask what they are doing, once it's explained to them they absolutely are idiots when they start coming out with all this not allowed crap. Surely you don't need to be a lawyer to understand basic photography law. I mean what posesses people to think it would be illegal to take pictures/videos of a building from a public place? It's mind boggling when you think about it. It's like saying you arent allowed to look at it with your eyes as you walk past. All a camera is doing is recording what the brain might not remember. There is an irrational fear of camera's.
@davepeters3317It's all very simple. Yes we are human, we all have our faults. For example in my Army days, especially in Northern Ireland, we were filmed all the time, be that out on the streets, or at our camps. For us that could possibly be a real security issue. However, the place was secure, we didn't need to send half the camp personnel out to challenge the person with a camera. We had plenty of CCTV, we also had hand held cameras. We just watched and observed, as we understood that they were outside in the public street. Often they wore balaclavas, again that wasn't an immediate concern. Things would obviously change if they tried to get into the camp, they would of been dealt with accordingly. In essence, because they were outside, wasn't anything we could do. Left them to it. Of course we reported it up the chain, maybe, security was stepped up etc. My point is, no point getting excited about something we couldn't stop, was legit, so just observe. Same thing should have happened here, the workforce didn't need to get involved on what was happening off their premises, same as any company should a UA-camr rock up, outside the place. In my Army days, I'm talking mainly the late 80s and 90s. No drones or fancy zoom cameras back then, but that didn't matter. Unfortunately, these days, people are just so eager to enforce their will onto others because they think they can, and people should just bow down to them because they said so. In this case, the female, from the window was filming, she is allowed to, she should of just reported it to her boss, and let them make any decisions regarding the situation. I'm pretty sure they have communication systems in place, tannoy, phones etc, and told everyone to not go outside to a man with a camera. It would avoid quite a lot of unnecessary hassle, people looking stupid on camera etc. It's not difficult. Remember a person outside in the public street is at that moment in time is no threat, and as I said before, be observed, and if they enter the premises then deal with it then, not before.
@davepeters3317 I have to say this an absolutely brilliant post. Masterfully articulated and absolutely 100% true and accurate. Thanks for taking the time to write it in response. You have left me with no come back at all or argument to make! My main initial argument was that these people should not react the way they do and they make themselves look idiotic with their claims of 'not allowed' Whilst they absolutely are making themselves look stupid, perhaps I have never fully considered the human nature reaction to an unusual occurrence as you have excellently described. And yes if I'm honest there is an element of me sitting here watching thinking well I wouldn't react like that as I'm superior and I actually genuinely wouldn't but is that because I've watched so many of these videos? If I had never seen them maybe I would be one of those idiots to!
