  • In the hunt for the ultimate trailer jack, I found just that, one named 'The Ultimate Trailer Jack'. After a recent unfortunate encounter with some train tracks and my trailer jack I had been on the hunt for a solution. I found a solution with a Bulldog 5,000 lbs trailer jack and some pipe sleeves but my Redneck Engineering left me on the hunt for something better. That's when I cam across this nifty invention which aimed to solve the exact same issue I was aiming to fix.

    I have the Ultimate Jack on my utility trailer and it is great! I just bought a second trailer so I'll be buying another jack.

    There is a flaw design of these jacks in that the outer mounting tube has too much slack around the inner lift tube. This causes the jack to wobble if you shake the trailer when the jack is fully extended. As I recall the original design did not have this problem, because it was constructed with square tubing. The original inventor of this jack let the patent run out and the current manufacturer decided to make a cheap knockoff

    An added bonus of the Ultimate Jack is it can easily be removed as a trailer theft deterrent. It's really hard to lift a trailer and set it on the hitch if the tongue jack isn't there. Use the square lock pin that was on your other jack foot and replace the small bolt (6mmx1.0) that holds the plastic alignment part to the front with a thumb screw and a lock washer.

    I also followed this other video to clean and grease the threads of the jack screw.

    Great job not reading the instructions
    There’s a bolt that requires loctite

    JUNK! I wouldn't trust that 1/4" of pin to hold up my little 5x10.

      I recently loaned my 14'x6' cargo trailer to my employer so that we could move office furniture from one office to the other (about 1/4 mile). We had the trailer WAY! overloaded I'm sure. The trailer was also used for short term storage of the furniture. The ultimate tongue jack had no problem lifting the tongue off the tow vehicle even fully overloaded, and lifting it again to put back on the tow vehicle. That pin is more like 3/8", definitely bigger than 1/4".

    I'm guessing you can open the tailgate with it dropped?

    • @AztecWarrior69
      @AztecWarrior69 2 роки тому

      Why is that even an issue. It's when the trailer is actually on the tow vehicle that that's a problem and guess what it will be UP, at that time.

      @@AztecWarrior69 if the trailer is hooked to my truck and I need something out of the back of the truck, I need to be able to drop the tailgate to get in there. I bought a Jack E Up, so I don’t have that problem anyway.

      Terry, yes I can open the tailgate with a trailer attached. Currently I am using a Bulletproof hitch and the ball is set back further than other hitches. The jack clears the tailgate by about an inch. Other hitches hold the trailer closer to the truck.

      @@AztecWarrior69 i take it, you have never had your trailer on the ball, and then needed something out of the truck bed ?. i find myself always needing to add or remove something from my truck bed..and the damn jack in the way of me lowering my tail gate.

      @@alanshaw4655 The question was "I'm guessing you can open the tailgate with it dropped?" Why is it an Issue? The thing is DROPPED. Out of the way entirely.
      Now onto your condescending comment "i take it, you have never had your trailer on the ball, and then needed something out of the truck bed ?."
      Of course I have but I never bother thinking about it. Why? Because I had the foresight to extend my hitch out and using a drop hitch. I also moved the jack mount way back on the yoke. Not to mention that I have a stock F250 with no lift kit and it doesn't even come close to the jack. Not height wise nor horizontally.
