For the corn casserole, if you put the butter in the casserole dish and then put that in the oven while it preheats the butter melts and you don't have to wash that extra dish. I know any reduction in dishes is welcome around here.
Building a varied spice cabinet is more economical this time of year: grocers who run BOGO sales often run BOGO spices. Except for garlic & onion powder, all my spices stay fresh in the freezer
Try smashing the potatoes by using the bottom of a round glass or even a mason jar. It will prevent the potatoes from popping out of the masher utensil you were using. You will get nice results.
Thank you! I just bought 5 lbs of carrots so definitely trying those. Yes those are “funeral potatoes” - s’pecially in Utah! I think adding some smoked sausage could make them a main dish!
Very similar to the recipe on the Simply Potatoes hash brown package, I think only uses one can of the soup and I don’t cook the onions, just dice them small and mix in with the rest. Delicious!
@@MealsWithMaria The dill weed Christmas tree from two years ago along with the goat cheese balls would be nice next to each other on a buffet table or as ornaments on the platter with the dill weed tree.
I have seen potatoes cooked in s similar way, but have never heard them called funeral potatoes. When I got married, my husband hated any kind of orange squash. But when he tried mine with butter and maple syrup, he changed his mind! I like to use buttercup squash because it's even sweeter and creamier than butternut.
Ty for always sharing the best this time Miss Ree love P D have some of her cookbooks Maria you should write some of yours be I would buy the store sounds awesome going to check it out ty God Bless
I love that you research and give folks a range of ideas, and information that allows them to be inspired in creating their own meals. The effort you put into your videos shows so well done ! 😉
Thank you so much for this I have her books but have yet to try out any of her recipes now I don’t have to because you’ve done it for me thanks again.I am going to try the carrots for sure and the salad it looks so good. Love your channel.
Thanks for sharing these recipes they all look delicious 😋 I make similar cheese balls and stick in a pretzel so they are like a lollipop and easy to pickup 😀
The meatballs looks great! I did a similar one and learned apricots are technically like a nut- when I visited the hospital. Allergic my whole life, never knew about apricots having amygdalin like nuts. I would sub with marmalade now. Not being a downer, just felt it was important enough to share. I will do those potatoes up for sure!
Everything looks yummy! Canadian Thanksgiving has gone ... but everything looks great for get togethers, Sunday dinners and Christmas. You did an awesome job in picking recipes ❤️
Tip: instead of using a potato masher, try a glass or jar and the smashed potatoes mash better👍. I’ve even used the bottom of my measuring cup😉. Those are some awesome looking sides. I love that you use such a variety of foods and not just pantry items. I’d love to see some meals with seafood unless there are allergies in the family…
Chili sauce is different from cocktail sauce as it doesn't have the horseradish in it. Cocktail sauce is the one with horseradish. But it sounds like the recipe turned out great the way you did it! Thanks for the share!
@Meals With Maria: I've had Funeral Potatoes a couple of times at family gatherings (Family Reunions) but didn't know what they were called until now. I'm from NE Ohio so maybe its a Mid-Western thing?
Ah, yes, funeral potatoes. A very popular dish at church fellowship dinners and the meal prepared for the family, following the funeral service of a loved one. They're just good by any name! 🙂
Pistachios are a little too expensive for me, so I use pumpkin seeds that I clean and roast myself. Pepitas are a great stand in, and nut free for anyone with allergies

My favourite from ree is her soul sweet taters… they are on my table most thanksgivings
I microwave butternut squash for 3 min. Then it is easier to halve.

So many to choose from! Even new years!
That corn is pretty much how I make my corn on cob to make my freezer cream corn. The best corn. Oh so good. I thicken it with a cornstarch slurry 😊
Hi Maria, i was wondering if there is an alternative to Thrive market in Australia? Thrive really needs to come to Australia 🇦🇺
Oh man! Unfortunately, I have no idea 😔 hopefully soon!
I'd smash the potatoes with a clear round plastic lid as they wouldn't stick, like a Pringles lid or oat container lid
Good idea!!
We call those Party Potatoes.
Aw that’s a much better name!

@@MealsWithMaria thanks for the tip I’m def gonna try this one 💕
Only heard of funeral potatoes a year ago… and I’m in my 60’s! Not a West Coast thing I guess.
I think it’s Midwest 😀
It's a Utah thing. :)

@Meals With Maria: I've had Funeral Potatoes a couple of times at family gatherings (Family Reunions) but didn't know what they were called until now. I'm from NE Ohio so maybe its a Mid-Western thing?
Funeral potatos in NJ! Lol we call them party potatoes now for happy ocassion...everyone loves them...but no one likes the name! Lol
Funeral Potatoes - yes I hear lots of people call it that, but I also shy away from calling it by that name. We just call it hashbrown casserole.
Haha yes, maybe I should shy away from it too? I got some weird looks!!

I have the same feeling calling anything that is absolutely delicious-crack. Crack is not good. What message is being passed?
Yes we call hash brown casserole and top with corn flakes.
