- As many as nine Australian commanders who served in the Afghan war have been stripped of their awards, following findings from a war crimes investigation that Defence Minister Richard Marles called a "national shame".
Tasmanian senator Jacqui Lambie labelled the timing of Thursday's decision, which comes two days after the final report into Veteran and Defence suicides, as "absolutely atrocious" and "insensitive".
