  • Gamlestan is Lysekil's oldest district and was Lysekil's city center about 200 years ago. The area consists of cobbled streets with beautiful houses and charming alleys.
This old district was developed during the herring period in the 1600ths century. Along the stone-paved street stands the well-preserved wooden buildings from the mid-1800s and a few decades onwards. At that time, the buildings went all the way to the shore. On several of the houses there are small signs telling about its owner and history.
Lysekil became a free village in 1836 and became its own köping municipality in 1863 when Sweden's
municipal system was introduced. It was not until April 1, 1903 that Lysekil received city rights and then became a so-called staple city, which meant that it was allowed to trade with countries outside Sweden.
Lysekil is situated on the west coast in Sweden and has about 14.500 habitants. Comparing with other city more people are moving out than moving in.
The city is situated close to the water and has two guest harbors and we prefer the nothern harbor.
In Lysekil you have wonderful nature and you will find “havets hus”, the house of the ocean. There you explore the marine life as I looks out in ocean.
During the summer they have sing-a-long evenings every week.
The church in Lysekil was built between 1899-1901. It is build in granite. When you come from the see, the church is the first thing you see. You saw this in the beginning of the video. It is a magnific church.
In Lysekil you have marvelous views from the rounded mountains.
