How to Fix Macbook Pro Flashing Folder, Blinking Question Mark, White Screen, Freeze Randomly

- If you're 2012 macbook pro a1278 is having flashing blinking folder with question mark, turning off randomly, computer freeze randomly, or white screen of death, this tutorial Fix is for you!

How to Fix:
1. Verify the Model Number.
This problem is common with 2011,2012 macbook pros with retina and non retina displays.
Check the bottom of the computer for the serial No. and see if you have warranty to get it repaired for free. Go here to Check: goo.gl/XZWi8R
If not valid anymore proceed to next step.
2. Secondly you are going to need to find out your model number mine is a1278.
so you will need to take apart the bottom of the laptop. Remove the hard drive SSD framework cable and mounts and disconnect the hard drive unibody cable.
The Unibody cable is the actuall problem with this computer NOT THE HARD DRIVE ITSELF.
If you replace this HDD Hard Drive Cable the Computer will work again.

If you have another just search for it.
The Model of the cable is also listed on the Cable itself!
If you have any other errors like -1006f
+1007F -2105F. you need to restart holding [option] before you push the turn on button and select a wifi network to download recovery. Once you download recovery you can recover the os x yosemite and restore you files using the new cable. Site Source: goo.gl/aMqu1K

So I followed your instructions, got the new cable via Amazon and it worked!!! Hallelujah! The only tricky part was the reinstall of that little gold strip, sliding it back in. Worked Great! Up and running again! Only hard part was getting that tiny gold/yellow ribbon back in tiny slot. Found it fits on top of prongs inside on tiny black box. Didn't even have re-install OS. Thanks!

Dude! You are THE man! Was worried my HDD was toast. Apple was no help, the local 3rd party shops were going to charge me $100-$200 depending on the turnaround to even see it. Your comment of seeing the OSX base system up as a cable issue, was spot on! (And something no one else mentioned) Ordered part last night, came this afternoon. if you restore your hd probably you will loose all your data. that's why I recommend that take hd out, put to inside of extra hd then backup. after all this change the cable. I will make it soon and I will write the results here.
if you reinstall it on an existing OS drive, YES
yeah I can tell you the correct screw driver you need to ask for a 6 inch reproducing tool. you should be able to get it at a local hardware

I had the flashing folder on my a1286 mid 2012 macbook pro and followed your steps until I also got the blank HDD part at the startup disk selection screen. So I assumed you were right about the damaged cable but then remembered I had an extra SATA HDD from when I upgraded my iMac to a SSD.
I installed it and everything worked perfectly, no need for a cable or anything else. Perhaps it was just a dead HDD (even though the system recognized it had a 500gb hdd). Either way great vid.

+Patrick Barrett you can do that however when i did this. eventually the cable fails and will not install the OS... or it will continue freezing... and then you still have to reinstall ox every 24 hours of run time...

OK so the Commend+R will take you to the globe and you will be able to reinstall the software from there correct? How long can this process take?

My mac had been crashing again and again and i thought it was because of bootcamp windows and over 300 gigs of data, i have a macbook pro mid 2012.
I decided to wipe and do a clean internet recovery but was in an indefinite loop. Spent days with no effect, then stumbled upon your video, got the cable the cable the very next day and successfully reinstalled catalina in one go!
It took me over 1.5 months to get it fixed!!!!

you have to hold the buttons down at startup until the internet recovery activates.

The Mac (2012-13) I knew got a flashing folder this year while switching harddrives. We used Internet Recovery. It worked! (And one of the options said 'Reinstall os X Lion' on the first attempt, oof) (on the second attempt, we used a backup drive the Mac is connected to, it took HOURS to make it bring the OS back)

WOW!!!! Still Worked in May 2022..
I Have MacBook pro mid 2022 and changed my Ram from 4 Gb to 16 Gb and crucial 500 Gb SSD hard-drive..
And after replacing these parts I faced the same issue mentioned above...I changed the Hard cable of SSD drive and it's works 👍..
Some instructions
1. You need all these small tools to change that SSD strip
2. For removing that yellow strip you need a magnifying glass, otherwise it's very difficult to see what you doing with naked eyes..
3. To change the Yello strip you must need to see the other videos available on UA-cam... That will be definitely helpful to you..
Do all these change of parts alone when no one is there to disturb you...
