We need more of this type of entertainment......Buck and his gang are HAPPY!
That's a definite.
It was a whole lot easier to be happy back then.
Don Rich was one of best. I meet him several times and he was always had a smile. I from Bakersfield and would see him and Buck around town.
As a fan, that's nice to hear
Don was a Sodomite who was involved with Buck... Don threatened to go public and Buck sabotaged his motorcycle and had him killed!
@@bigcountry4539 how much meth u smoke today?
@@Cueya ... trust me on this one... LOL!
buck owens my favorite singer bcos i feel so happy when i hear the song of buck owens thanks buck owens
What a magical show.Don Rich such a talent,so good with Buck Owens.
Don Rich’s voice was so powerful
Although I was very young (only about 4) when this show was originally shown on tv, I definitely remember seeing it! It may have been a rerun episode shown after it originally aired. This was back when county music was truly awesome with great artists-musicians & singers-and the Buck Owens gang were all talented and terrific! Happy childhood memories and I definitely remember "Cowboy Convention".
after. eleven years still. love him,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Wow! A Gibson SG rock guitar at 16:15. Unheard of for country music. I play one. That's nice to see!
I have that same guitar with the metal bar. Looks outta place for country but I'll take it ! Lol
A ES335 makes for a great country guitar also. Everything I play on a tele moves right on over.
They were all playing Gibsons. Must have been some $$ involved.
Thank you, this is how I remember Don The last time I saw him in 74
I saw the whole Buck Owens road show just a few weeks before Don died. To this day I am still thankful that I got to see him perform live from a very close seat. What a guitar player! RIP, Don. Hope to see you perform again some day
My dad always thought that Susan Raye was such a cutie!
The haggers we're cute and so was all buck owens sons! And all were extremely talented!
Buck only had one son---Buddy Alan
@@caroldahlien7759 No, Mike Linn was also Buck's son.

Buddy Alan
Buck Owens/Sons
Owens had three sons: Buddy Alan (who charted several hits as a Capitol recording artist in the early 1970s and appeared with his father numerous times on Hee Haw), Johnny, and Michael Owens. Hmm, no Mike Linn and Buddy was the only one on Hee Haw and that is what I was pointing out. None of the others performed with Buck. Johnny has a band called Buck Fever Band and Mike ---neither of them were on Hee Haw---Susan Raye who sang with Buck her cousin was married to my dad's cousin we have 2nd cousins in common. And I knew Tommy Collins who got both Buck and Merle Haggard into the music business. They were Tommy's guitar players before reaching fame. Tommy was a good friend of ours. Was at our house several times.
Buddy looks so much like his dad here it’s crazy. It’s like they almost look like twin brothers, and they even sound alike too.
I remember when this show aired..
very professional ... that pianist at the end! nice icing on the cake
Floyd Cramers "On The Rebound"
If I'm not mistaken, this show ended with the death of Don Rich. Buck Owens was hit hard by this loss.
Just one of the many television programs worth watching and the quality is the reason we still look for them today.
That´s right Evelyn, doing house cleaning, happy and glad to be enjoying the great B.Owens in these trying days for the world, timeless music.
Not sure about that. Don Rich ws on Hee Haw a few times which was after this show.
@@jmcharles6916 yes, Don was on Hee Haw for some time. This show is recorded 1970, 4 years before Don died (1974) .
Don Rich went from Buck's Ranch show to perform on HEE HAW from 1969 to 1974. Sadly he was killed in a motorcycle accident on California's Coastal high in July of 74. It did affect Buck for the rest of his life. Don was just as big a part of Buck's "sound" as the man himself. I never met or knew Don, but worked for Buck and family at one of his country radio stations over the years.
The one thing I don't like about my Bday 07/15 is that's the night Don left us.He was going to meet his wife and sons in San Diego to go on a fishing trip but was killed in a traffic repair site while riding his motorcycle.
The whole band bought motorcycles a couple years before that and it really upset Buck.
Buck had seen the Hagar twins performing at some Chicago airport and was impressed. He hired them for this show and later on Hee Haw. Great singers and really fit into the Hee Haw crowd well.
Yes!
I love Bucks playful nature and he sure was a nice man! I loved him and his cool guitar when I was 3 yrs old watching Hee Haw. I didn't have a clue about these old shows or the extent of his talent and songwriting. I still very much enjoy his music and seeing these old clips.
Wonder what would happen if you wrote to that p.o box today. What a great show. I've never heard of it and I was raised on her haw. Rip Buck, Don and the Hager twins. Amazing talent
The only alive ones are his sons, Susan Raye, and Doyle, I think.
Bucks son Buddy Allen Owen went by buddy Allen bcuz he wanted his own fame..its fun to see him teaching his son on his show...
Buck and Don always walked a blurred line between C&W and Rock and Roll, seems like by this time they dropped most pretense of being straight country performers. Not a complaint, they were excellent whichever side of the fence they stood.
I believe their style of music was called the Bakersfield Sound which was Country & Western mixed with Rock n Roll. More guitar and less steel guitar.
I remembered as a kid going to see the Buckaroos without Buck Owens being there. They put on a little concert and afterwards got to meet them. It was a house open for new MobileTrailers from The company that makes them called Champion Mobile Trailers from Lindsay California. My Dad was one of the workers back then.
That when the music was good an the country was great also .I wish get back to them times
From Kern County, I was in Vietnam when this aired..
Thanks for putting this on UA-cam..
Finally got to see/hear/enjoy..
Love that version of Memphis, TN.
Loved this brought back a lot of memories!!
Love that man when to baker field to see what I missrd
Yes, Don was so fluid on the telecaster by then he never burnt too many calories Pickin'
Silver Wings song very good.
Some people don't realize that this was the precursor to Hee Haw. Yea.
I loved Susan Raye. Her voice was so good.
Loved the show! Buck, Don and the Hagers. ❤ Thanks for posting!
Interesting to see the changes in musical styles, fashion, etc. over the years on this long-running show. I agree with a commenter below who said this episode was too cheesy. I much prefer the early episodes when there was less cheese and more corn, i.e. old-fashioned home spun corn-pone humor. Still, I love Buck and Don and really appreciate their place in the musical heavens.
I like the 60s episodes myself.
Don Rich playing a Gibson Les Paul Professional!! Awesome, Terry Kath from Chicago also put one to good use. Have one, its a heavy beast, but a monster guitar.
Thats not Don Rich thats Bucks son playing the LP Pro
@@AnthonyBurrito1313 In the show opening yes, but you must have watched the rest of the video....yes?
I was surprised when Doyle Holly did Going to San Antonio. I had never heard it by anyone other than Charlie Pride.
I love that piano song. It was a Floyd Cramer standard. Great drum solo.
The first I saw one of these episodes on UA-cam, I was impressed that Buck Owens had his own show in addition to "Hee Haw." Then I saw a later episode, from the early 70's. I saw the title card, and I thought, "Holy crap, I remember this show!" In fact, it was one of my earliest memories, and I always associate it with the shabby little bungalow in which we lived at the time.
I loved this! All were great! Buck, Don and The Hagers are missed. I met Susan Raye once at a county fair and she was so lovely and gracious. Buck gave the audiences what they wanted hear!
we. miss him
Don was so underrated.
Thank you so much for uploading these. They are great!!!
The Buck Owens Ranch Show was truly a family affair. One of Buck’s sons, Buddy Alan, was a featured singer, and another one, Mike Lynn, was the show’s announcer. You also had the Hager Twins, and singer Susan Raye was married to Buckaroos drummer Jerry Wiggins.
2 great legends gone to soon
why don't you keep Buck's legacy going and update the site with new material
Buck fan always
Terry from Australia....
hey im here in the north east of england and i never seen this before its pretty fucked up but hey great show susan reay is cool, still very catchy we never seen this on uk TV back then what a ball you lads and lasses must have had
You can see in the song Memphis Tennessee that Don and Buck are truly brothers. And don't forget the Hagar Brothers.
That’s a great version! And Don playing a Gibson !?!
@@brianfergus839 Yea, and that was the funkiest Gibson guitar I have ever seen. I think they had a Gibson endorsement going, and they told Gibson to change the pickup arrangement, and pickups themselves, from humbuckers to single coil. Did not look right at all. Fender must have sold a ton of telecasters because of dangerous Don. From the 50's to the 80's #1guitar Fender Telecaster, #2 Gibson Les Paul custom.
Doyle Holly sure did Charley Pride proud on that song! (no pun intended! lol)
It was the best performance of the show.
I wished I could have met don rich I was just a kid then
They announced Buck Owens doing "Memphis", but they should have said DON and Buck because don did the lead singing!
This is a treat to see I never knew Buck had his own show I only thought he was in Hee Haw.
A lot of people didn't!
I didn't until I discovered this show on UA-cam. The show ran from 1966 to 1974.
I worked as a Bellman in the Downtown Holiday Inn and on a run to the airport early one morning a man that looked familiar was by the front desk with a suitcase waiting for a ride! He sat up front and was joking with the stewardesses. That’s when I recognized him, he was one of the Hagar twins!
Awesome
Out frickin standing! Dons smile gets me every time. I wasn’t even born yet. I’m a 72 model..
Wow to everybody so talented what a good show Buck put on and blessed with a talented son and all the rest but I forgot the name of those twins was that the the Hager Brothers I don't remember it was going back to my childhood but didn't they do a beautiful job on that Merle Haggard Song WoW so beautiful
The show had jumped the shark by then, the old classic Buckaroos were the best
Very nice 👌 👍 👏 program 👌 👍 😀 👏
Ah, the early '70s--hair-sprayed locks and sideburns, gold chains, and bib shirts...
Such LIFE!!!
Wow 👌👌👍👍❤️❤️🌟🌟🤩🤩
Alan Edgar 'Buddy' Owens = Buddy Alan
They aired two days after I was born and was also on my mother's birthday she loved Buck Owens
you can see hee haw from here.
I've seen Buck Owen's n Buckaroos twice, Susan Raye once, then Roy Clark once, they were all fun entertainers
"Normally" I'm a Monteverdi's fan, but gimme two bottles of Pilzner and Buck Owens and I'm (almost) happy.
Don Rich has put on weight here
1970: the show started to follow the "Hee Haw" format. It was a good show, but for a 30 min show it lacked talent besides Buck's band. The show was filmed in Oklahoma . Don still with Gibson. Later, Buck signed with Fender including all their amps. Fender also painted the telecasters red, white, blue.
I have never seen anyone play maracas like that.
I sometimes miss the 70's but not that often.
At 7:16 he is like a little kid laughing at Grandpas pull my finger joke
I may write me a request ,and get that free picture if it's still available.
I like the Hagers. And Don isn't real FAT!
❤
Unfortunately CASHville makes it damn near impossible for any TRUE COUNTRY TALENT to make it big. Now all that floods the airwaves is rehashed 80s hair metal with a fella out front over-accentuating a southern drawl to try and fool us into thinking he's country. JUST CRAP!!!!!
and don rich too,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
I think Don, still being in his 20s, started having the munchies, if you know what I mean, about 1968.....
You are wrong about Don. That was only a rumor! I hate it when people drag other people through the mud; especially when they're not around to defend themselves!!!!
Fern Benoit and
Anybody know what the name of the instrumental tune with the piano at the end of the program (after "Cowboy Convention" ) is? Sounds like something I have head through the years-all those years ago.
+Jeff H Not sure if this is what your looking for but I think its the Floyd Cramer song On the rebound. If anybody else knows feel free to hit me up
+Bill Ries Yep! I think that's the name of the tune. Thank you.
your welcome
Jeff H...that's the one!! Played by Jim Shaw!
Kind of square, but I love it.
OK, Love this show, but I am amazed how quickly Don turned from sequin studded rising star to middle aged Dad bod dude ... Still love Don tho !
I miss the early shows. This feels more like a Hee Haw cast without Roy. The fun seems to be missing here.
Buck never got over the death of Don Rich,....it ended the Buckaroos.
Buck son looks more like Buck than Buck Himself_ LoL_ But he sure ain't filling Daddy's Shoes ! .....Better go back to working at 6 Flags ! LoL
The best version of this Tune was recorded by Deep Purple on the 1967(?) Book of Talesyn Album
where's Don's tele??
Where was Tom?
now I know where hee haw came from
No Tom Brumley or any steel!?!?
HippyHillbillie Terrible without steel! Tom Brumley was unbelievably fantastic!
He left in 1969 to play with Ricky Nelson and the Stone Canyon Band. Check out live at the Troubadour; also has Randy Meisner on bass
whats withe Gibsons? - must have had a fight w/Fender
is buddy allen buck owens son?.....or younger brother?...lol
actually yeah its hes son, look up wiki
What happened to the Telecasters?
Fender wanted them back in exchange for a new set of guitars that they planned to give Buck, but Buck wanted to keep them and so the deal soured and Gibson stepped in.
It's Joe Namath lol
Whatever happened to good ol' C/W music?
god, I mean, Buck Owens and Don Rich are sure some of my heroes, but boy! did they get carried away with the Cheese on this show. Some of those early ones kicked ass, but that "bird dog" shit was atrocious. hahaha.
+John Davey
I hear ya. That hop-along cassidy bit with the stupid fake arrow-through-the-head gag was painful to watch... complete shit.
@@tommylord No fucking shit!!!
I think Don would have had a solo career if he had lived.
Was it in their contracts that you had to have a hair helmet to play this show?
It must have it's own part of the hole in the ozone layer from all that hair spray.
It's just not the same w/out Brumley's steel.
This became HeeHaw
Susan Ray (to me) was so much better than Kay Adams. Any song. Any day.
Susan Raye is a distant relative of mine ---- her cousin Terry married my dad's cousin
No doubt who Buddy's daddy is.
Don with a Les Paul?!?
Not only that, but it's a Les Paul Recording model, with the low impedence pick-ups. I used to have one.
***** Wow, great story.
Brumley, one of the greatest steel players ever, was fired because he was caught getting high. Not long after, we lost the great Don Rich and, with the previous loss of Cantu, everything that made Buck Owens' Bakersfield Sound so special was gone.
Doc Spender That is incorrect! Tom Brumley left to go to work for Rick Nelson. He was about the straightest cleanest musician there ever was. I will sic his widow, kids and grand kids on you!
Janie Palubin That is correct ... amazing how these "self appointed" "I got the inside scoop" ... want their 1 minute of fame ... Tom was the best steel player ever ...
If he was that clean why would he work with Rick Nelson? Nelson had a long history of drug use, including the night of the plane crash.....the post mortem showed extensive cocaine use/abuse. It doesn't bother me what a man does but it's an indication of the company he keeps......his band also tested positive for cocaine after the crash
Willie Cantu Is Still Going
@@reeceblinman7469 Yes, he is
Why do both of Bucks´sons have different last names¿ It seems half the men either wear wigs or comb overs. I see this in all the old country western videos of singers. Some of the toupe´s look silly. You can see them in the Star Vista TV commercials for their music. I dont know how they could go out on stage wearing those silly toupe´s.
I worked for the Owens family at Buck's country radio station in Phoenix. Know the family well. Buddy Alan is his first and middle name....this was his stage name. Michael Lynn was Mikes first and middle name.....Mike was not a performer and later ran two of Buck's radio stations....so full names are Buddy Owens and Mike Owens.....
ALSO, IT WAS THEIR REAL HAIR....!!!! But some of the old timers like Hank Snow, Jim Reeves and Johnny Horton.....in their day they wore toupee's...
Youngest son Johnny Owens plays the Crystal Palace and tours with his guys the Buck Fever Band. Definitely worth seeing.
'Tucky Woman?
DaveHolten Well, that is the name of the song, but that's not what they were singing; they were singing "Tucky Woman". The best version of this song is by Deep Purple, with their original lineup. Sometimes the singer sounded just like Neal Diamond, but Blackmore goes nuts on the guitar. Check it out when you can. Buck and Don forever!!!!!!
BCRSIX He said the "ken". just really softly...it's a stylistic thing
Don Rich may be a guitar god, but what a dork!!! Its like they told him if the camera ever caught him not smiling he was fired!
just need the white sheets to complete the costumes
Granny went bonkers for this rubbish
R I P Granny 😰😩😫
Is that f camer
One more thing... why do all the men in the show have the EXACT same haircut as Buck Owens? The announcer "boy" is simply dead weight. What is the purpose of his job? All the men have their hair parted in the same place, with the same style. Crazy.
