The fact the crowd is clapping along just shows how well the series is important to them
It's the equivalent of the original 60s Star Trek in Japan, as I understand it. Everyone in the country knows it, even if they're only vaguely aware of it through references from other things.
This is amazing. The crew of real Yamato would have had never expected this friendship between the US and Japan after the fierce battles.
After a battle like the one between America and Japan in the 1940s the only thing left for us to do was to become friends. Our nations must never take up arms against one another again.
yeah you know it's amazing, but now look at Japan they are so modernize in their technology in whatever they do and yes I love the Starblazers theme I even own a model of the Yamato.
I think it would be cool to make a real Yamato but as a space battleship to protect earth from invasion from Aliens.
If only the men that died when Yamato sank knew that an Anime would be created in the 1970's resurrecting thier ship into a spaceship to save the planet Earth.
This brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for playing the Starblazers theme- it means a whole lot to us Old timers Gooooo Yamato!!!!!
Nicely done! Star Blazers theme is STILL popular all these years later! To those who enjoyed this series, what a tribute by The USMC band!!!
These guys deserve way more audience!
My first thought exactly.
This show fueled my imagination as a kid. I remember seeing huge model of the Yamato/Argo in a hobby store at the mall, and I made a point to visit it every time we went shopping.
For those who don't know, Space Battleship Yamato at this time was starting to get very popular again. Due to the live action release late in 2011 and the news that they'd be remaking the TV series (Yamato 2199) which has been coming out in theaters every few months for the past 9 mo or so.
Given that the original battleship Yamato was sunk by the US military at the end of World War 2, this is downright surreal. Cool, but surreal.
agreed
Attacked and sunk by the Americans on it's way to a suicide mission to Okinawa where it was to beach itself and defend Okinawa....yeah pretty surreal.
Even more so, when you consider Japan got a lot more out of Yamato the anime, compared to Yamato the ship. Here we have a battleship which spent about 90% of its wartime service avoiding the enemy, only to get mauled pretty much as soon as it tried to go into action full scale, turned into a pretty nice anime which both former friends and foes can enjoy and on top of that, it made money, compared to the original basically bleeding resources.
Well, World of Warships is a thing too at least(don't play it myself, but I know a few who rather seem to enjoy it). While the actual Yamato didn't fare too well in history, the game does try to make use of the available and/or speculated specs of all ships in its game to be on scale to their real life counterparts... and the Yamato is scary strong on the offense. If it spots you before you spot it, well... You are already dead. Also, the Yamato holds a record for having the largest turrets(and was possibly the largest battleship of all time in general), so it's offensive might in the game and Top Tier classification is well earned. Of course, also accurate to reality, the cost of purchasing it and its upgrades are equally massive.
Japanese just passing though. In anime story, space ship Yamato (Argo) successfully returned her home, the earth again, saved the earth. At least in the story, every country on the earth tied just one, since even in original Japanese story, there was only expression representing their home 'the earth', not having word 'Japan'.
I guess maybe creators at that time expected to give requiem by making that story to real IDC yamato and her crew that could not return forever, finding their aim on the hopeless mission was simply, just save their beloved people. I guess the crews passed away would give them the message, 'Many thanks for your great performance.'
its amazing that i just discovered Space battleship Yamato/Starblazers 2 weeks ago, and never realized it was so old, and such a fond memory for so many Americans and Japanese, ive been watching the original series here on youtube, and holy cow i am in love. the Story, the ship, its so beautiful. i cant wait to watch the 2199 version.
Glorious nerd power.
I suspect a lot of Japanese would be surprised at how much this song (and this show) means to many Americans. 🙂
I agree 💯%
@@deo7320it means a lot to us. A lot of American kids who grew up in the early 1980s really felt a connection to the American version of Space Battleship Yamato. Maybe not for the same reasons, but we understood it.
Still get chills every time I hear this played.
My wife is Okinawan and we both watched Uchuu Senkan Yamato/Star Blazers growing up. I wish we could have seen this live but it is cool to have the video.
Farewell, Earth, the ship that is departing is
The Space Battleship Yamato
It departs now to Iskandar,
at the end of the cosmos, bearing its fate.
"We will come back, no matter what it takes"
Answer with a smile to the waving people
Going far from the Galaxy towards Iskandar
A faint gleam of hope
The Space Battleship Yamato
Farewell, Earth, the ship that is departing is

Going far from the Galaxy towards Iskandar

Farewell, Earth, farewell, beloved ones
The Space Battleship Yamato
Bearing the fate of saviors of Earth
The men fight and the romance burns high
Somebody has got to do this
If we are the people they count on...

(and the US version because why not)
(season 1)
Were off to outer space,
were leaving mother earth, to save the human race,
Our Star-blazers!
Searching for a distant star, headed off to iskandar,
leaving all we love behind, who knows what danger we'll find?
we must be strong and brave, our home, we've got to save,
If we don't, in just one year, mother earth will disappear!
Fighting with the gamillans, we wont stop until we've won,
than we'll return, and when we arrive, the earth will survive with our star-blazers!
(season 2)
Were off, to outer space, were leaving mother earth.
to save the human race, our Star-Blazers.
A cry for help, a desperate plight, makes our star-force reunite,
as we rush to meet our fate, the comet empire awaits!
We must be strong and brave, to stop its evil ways,
if zordar's plot should work, he'll destroy the universe!
We'll fight the comet empire, battle through the raging fire,
filled with the hope that earth will survive, we'll keep peace alive with
our Star-blazers.
Original translation of Japanese lyrics. used in all seasons regardless that in Seasons 2 and 3. The ship didn't head towards Iskandar.
American dub. 'Star Blazers' did have the same intro with different lyrics for each seasons, describing missions, and enemies.
Yes your right only the first seasons intro was used in the show. However there were actually 4 intros made with only the 2nd being sung offically. Also in 2202 the second version is used.
I gotta say. Seen better translations
This is cultural diplomacy at it's best.
They nailed it! Sounded just like what I hear in my Star Blazers DVDs.
Well done, devil dogs. I loved the Star Blazers growing up😊😊😊😊
This was my favorite Cartoon and I love this soundtrack from the first time...Is a real miracle see the US Band performing a song for the Yamato, not the real Yamato but for the Japanese is just a sister, and the real peace and frienship with this two great contrys is a Dream come true, bye from Italy, long live Yamato!
This USMC version is so powerful perform, every instruments were awesome.
this is so freaking cool !!!... i love it.
i grew up watching Star Blazers and i always wondered what it would sound like played live
One of the greatest military themes of all time.
i loved star blazers as a 13 year old around 1979. very gritty and had the feel of starship troopers by heinlein (which i had just read). The episode where the marine sgt pours sake/wine which instantly freezes on pluto to honor his fallen friends. The episode where you find out Lt Zandor is secretly a cyborg who lost all his limbs in a horrible accident as a child still haunts me. It makes perfect sense given that that the marine band would play this (maybe the director like me watched the show in the us as a child). It had a profound effect on me - as much as Star Trek TOS or the original BSG.
Yes, I loved this show as a kid
I caught myself singing the lyrics while listening to this.
You have to admit, this is a great candidate anthem for the new US SPACE FORCE !
It is already an unofficial anthem of the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force
I prefer the UNCF anthem
@@frauzschttek2098 Galactic Pilot
Actually, I think the Battlestar Galactica Theme(Stu Phillips) should be used for US Space Force, but that's just me...
Not US, but Japan
This shows that people can get along. There was a War. Despite this generations have put aside differences of the older generations and made peace. The younger generations have something to learn from this.
Chills. Every time.
I loved this cartoon. Oh the small pleasures of being a kid :)
Some of the band members might be old enough to have seen Star Blazers as kids.
Space Battleship MONTANA
Andromeda, the EDF fleet flagship from the second series was loosely based on the Montana-class, if I recall correctly. Most of the EDF ships & some of the Gamilon ships were based on various WWII battleships, carriers, destroyers & cruisers. That multi-deck Gamilon carrier from the first series, for instance, was based on the IJN Kaga in her original iteration. Captain Okita/Avatar’s flagship in the first series isn’t for ally named in Star Blazers but canonically she’s called Kongo in both versions. Kodak/Wildstar’s command is called Missile Ship 17 in the US version but in the Japanese canon she’s named after the WWII Japanese destroyer Yukikaze.
This is absolutely freaking incredible!
There appear to be more people on stage performing than there are in the audience. How sad.
The fact that the marines played this is shocking
I want the band at school to play this.
Dreamer X86 yep
People who watched Star blazers in there childhood are like
Just Dancing and just Jamming
from Philippines! much love! i love this intro song!
Love this!
There shall be two names in the Space Force that go down in history, names used to mark the newest and greatest vessels, flagships of their fleets...Yamato and Enterprise.
The ship was called the Argo in the American version.
Fantastic work! I only wish it was longer.
This is a total trip and surreal af!!! Awesome!
I cannot help but hear the words to Star Blazers other than "Our Star Blazers" is "Yamato" in my head
It's wonderful thing that loving the same things ,
even if we live in different countries and ways of living.
The soul music of japanese
How cool! Very good performance of a classic song.
There is another video on UA-cam called "Star Blazers Theme Song Live" (Don Gaiser), a high school band that absolutely rocks it! Look it up~
+Lee Parten Thank you for recommending that! That high school band did a great job. I put it in my favorites folder. :)
+Lee Parten I've seen it. They were great.
Yamato is the Greatest battleship ever. Banzai brothers from Turkey to my Japan Brothers and sisters. ^^
the attendance presence translate the way Japanese feels about the status quote
Status quo you mean right?
Nice tribute to biggest battle ship from japan from.Us military band
Gives me the goosebumps!
Truly Epic!
Oh WOW! I wish I could have been there to watch that performance live. (Was stationed over there in 1992)
And now, I shall go watch the live action Space Battleship Yamato. Cause it is that awesome of a movie.
Perfect. Though kind of cut short.
gives me goosebumps...
Great soft trade of culture between two great nations.
WHAT?! I was living in Okinawa and I didn't know about this?! Damn I missed out then D; (I was living there during this time)
You feel this
Man I wish they would show the new Yamato in Imax !!!!!!!
Tank's USMC. Semper Fidelis!
Love this.
The Best !!!
Uchuu Senkan Yamato
Marines!!!!
They did Sgt Knox proud!
This makes me want to fight the Gamalons.
Bored Ahole and the comet empire.
No no, it makes me want to befriend them.
@@naverilllang Calm down, Nanoha.
My hope is that when/if they get around to dubbing Space Battleship Yamato 2199, they don't go for just a remake of Star Blazers and actually keep it true to the Japanese style. (E.g. Character names stay similar, but easier for Westerners to understand, keep the ships name in place and don't change the flipping story.)
I just watch it with subtitles.
Wow. You are all GOOD ! Impressive ! :D
Greetings from Kobe, Japan
Favoloso!!!!
that drummer in my left ear is really good
+1
Yamatooooooo!!!!!!
good!!
perfect!!
wish I could find a complete professional recording of the entire symphony.
Yamato .... yooo!!!!!!!
Terrific performance. I just wish whoever had recorded (or mastered) this hadn't thought it needed to be a victim of the Loudness War.
Looks like more people in the orchestra than in the audience!
Uchuu Senkan Yamato
This is definitely surreal
WUT! This is soooo cool!
EXCELLENT! :)
Okinawa of all places. Site of the battle so bloody it was the main justification for using the atomic bomb rather than invading japan
Cant belive it
STAR BLAZERS!!!
SEMPER FIDELIS!!!
Great :0)
Hurra!
~YA-MA-TOOOOOO!!!~
They played it in *OKINAWA*
LOL
What message they want to deliver is WE SINK THIS "SPACESHIP" BEFORE, and we can do it again
Ohh Rah!!!
I don't know any better way to say "we want to be friends" than to play music from another country's damn-near-religious obsession.
I wonder how many of these guys were fans of Star Blazers?
o quẽ mais mais eles tocarão ? battotai ?
Where can i find sheet music for this?
I also want the score 😭
Muito bom
