I just wanted to extend my deepest.Thanks for making this video.There are a lot of budget guitars that are great out here but Opening more avenues of places to go to get. Decent guitars without breaking the bank is always a plus in my book.
I have several gnot, really a collector but kinda am in a sort. But you have featured a couple of places, I've never heard of that. I will be checking out because of this video. Thank you again for making this video. For the rest of us🎉
After ordering mine I'd suggest:
1. Don't impulse buy. There's so many pretty ones, give yourself time to change your mind.
2. Don't just buy one that you could have bought from Gibson/ESP/Fender/Rickenbacker for more money, that's throwing away the benefit of ordering from a custom shop: you can order YOUR design.
3. Don't communicate using translate and words. Communicate via PICTURES. Make a mock-up of the exact guitar you want in paint. Use circles and circles with slashes through to get the point across you want "This" not "this".
Now that I've learned these lessons instead of impulse buying a Tony Iommi signature, I'd have made an even BETTER one: A diablo carved SG body instead of the flat body, and using a left handed fret-board so that the cross inlays appear upside down. I'd have a regular SG body with a slash through it and a diablo-carved one with arrows pointing at it, and a "wrong" and "right" pictures of the fretboard.
Yes that is a damn good idea. That's what I did as well.
I think you have the means of communicating figured out. I wish English translated to Chinese better.
Here's a tip: if you aren't making enough to buy a decent guitar, you aren't making enough to take a cheap guitar to a luthier to have the pickups changed out. Spent $20 on a half-decent soldering iron.
(And don't be a sap for much-hyped pickups with really cool names... especially at retail prices.)
I have built a couple of parts casters that were cheaper Then buying one straioh. Sometimes it works out great. Because you can put the parts you want on it. And it plays like a custom shop but not costing custom shop money. I have not upgraded to building a D.I y kit but that is my neck my next venture I think

i have a epiphone traditional pro SG as well and there are diffrences in the chibby and the epi models...but proud to have both to be honest...
I was always taught "If you buy cheap, you buy twice" and that's always rung true in my experience. I honestly watched this out of morbid curiosity as I couldn't understand the sense in the title. If I buy kinda sorta what I want but not really, it'll only delay me in getting what I actually want as I just don't be satisfied with a cheaper version of or a copy of what I want.
Only exception was when I had the plan of buying a red Squier Classic Vibe Strat to fit gold hardware to in homage to the special edition one shown in the 1958-59 Fender Catalogue, then saw a used Made in Mexico Series 50 already with 98% of the gold hardware I was wanting for cheaper than I could do with a Squier, and still has Fender on the headstock.
When it comes to the Les Paul I want, I'll just be picky in which used one has the condition, finish and maple top that I really want, then jump on that.
Overall, I cannot recommend anyone getting a Chibson, a mid spec Epiphone and up, a PRS (or PRS SE) single cut or some other established brand? Sure. Not this though. Get something that's honest about what it is
Well as a person who has owned both a Chibson Les Paul and a Gibson Les Paul, I can tell ya the Chibsons aren’t bad. My Gibson has a AAA Maple Top and yes it looks better than the Chibson a little. But as a player I can tell ya I could care less about the looks. It is about the playability. So if a person is looking for a wall mounted instrument as a decoration the Gibson would be a very expensive piece of art for you, but the Chibson will get you really close if you are a player. Make no mistake I love my Gibson but it isn’t a $2,900 difference

I would buy it just to piss Gibson off or Americans who dont like Chinese products and want to "protect" their obnoxious US market that moved 80% of their business to China in the last 20 years, anyways. Shit, US govt might even start a war with China over my Chibson, you never know, it happened before over lesser things. You never know with that America.

True with a caveat. Gibson prices are so outlandish, unobtanium to me, that a person can buy a Chibson and completely rework the entire guitar without getting anywhere near the price of the real deal.
I bought a guitar from a seller on EBay , and had no idea they were chibsons , until I started to wipe it down after I got it , and wiped off the headstock to reveal the chibson underneath the black coating!!

That's quite the cool library you have! Rich mahogany indeed... Also, while I can't speak to HB S-styles, I *can* tell you I've had great experiences with their T-style - even the lower-tier ones. Good stuff.

I just ordered a gold top right now from BTCustom after watching this video. I am in Ireland. Hopefully it arrives without any hassle. Will update you if and when it gets here.
Ask to send neck and body separate as you're likely need to reset with shims, nut change and refashion the fretts which you would automatically do as you've just bought a cheap guitar from China and so would want to check it over to see what you've got
I can't afford a Gibson. I have a terrific old Sakai SG 1977, and recently purchased a lovely 2021 Chibson Les Paul with new pick ups and a Dragon Telecaster copy - very happy with both of them. 😊 I am saving to get a Hendrix Flying V copy and hope one day they make a Clapton SG The Fool!!!!
Good for you that you can buy signature guitars cheaper. Most people say that they buy fake brand guitars because they cannot afford to buy the real one. But in the end, they end up buying lots of knock off guitars and the amount that they spent is actually enough to buy a genuine brand with good quality hardwares.

Hi I bought a Mexican start not a chipson- and upgraded the pickups to texmex- strat loaded pickguard for 145$ it's 100% better know
I got a Chinese BYO strat and put Mexican pick ups in her it sounds pretty okay. Not bad.

Well I found another Chibson dealer in the US, and I plan to order from them soon and their quality seems to be higher. Look up Polaris4Music
When I look at Brandon's site the headstocks and bodies are different.
The Chibson's on Brandon's Custom Shop do not have the Gibson open book headstock shape. Did he start changing the headstock to his own shape over the years since this UA-cam video was posted in 2021?
Great video, well done and informative. I own two Chibsons (LP and ES-345) along with a couple real Gibsons and Fenders. Let's face it, I bought the Chibsons because of their prices. But I was pleasantly surprised at how good they were. And, if I ever get back to gigging again, I won't worry if somebody at the bar projectile vomits on my Chibson LP when he asks us if we can play Freebird. By the way, I asked the company that I bought it from if they had a "Chibson" logo. No dice. I'd love to have headstock with that on it.

I bought 2 chibson guitars. No problem with customs at all. Fully logo’d. The 3rd order was an ESP explorer copy of which I did ask for no logo or serial numbers. Also had no issues. Guess I just lucky with the first 2 orders.

I just stumbled across your video. I just ordered a Lp From Brandon's Custom Shop in WI, to review on my channel. (Should be on its way now) .I really didn't like the fact that Trogly's channel put them down without ever seeing one in person. He even went as far as trying to turn him in for selling guitars that have a LP look. So I decided to take a chance and order one so people can have a fair review. Seems by his Reverb shop that everyone is happy. Thanks for the video. You got a new sub here.
Yeah, he has a bunch on his website too. And I plan to order another from him on Wednesday also. He has recently got them to make his own unique headstock design in his new ones, and I am interested in trying that out. I have already tried two of them and I have been impressed

No worries brother. Let me know what you think of it when you get it. I have to say I have actually been impressed with the pickups in them. My 335 copy I got from him, has a better sounding bridge pickup in it than the one in my Harley Benton one I had, it was much more clear and less muddy. My Slash Appetite for Destruction Chibson, the same way, though I do need to change the wiring in it after a few years, that has become problematic over time.

@@alvito7355 Yes matter of fact I just got a letter from customs/border protection. They siezed it at JFK. There is a shit load of paper work but I haven't read it. I already got my money back months ago. Now I feel bad for the seller cause he's the one that got screwed.

Not much brother. Just informing people on how to not make the mistakes I made the first 2 tones when ordering a Chibson.
Also I was listening back to the MP3 of my jam submission for Ramp Up and I am gonna re-record 2 parts of it tomorrow considering I have some time. I was gonna do it tonight but I had to do a Jewish teaching and this video in the same day after work so I am too worn out to play and re-record those parts but I have the various parts I recorded in Adobe Audition saved so it will be easy for me to lift out the opening part I did and redo it thankfully. Recording the way I do on musically tracks makes it really easy for me but it would be impossible for me to do good live lol
I've found many will use a flex seal/plati-dip type spray over the headstock...get it and peel the paint off.
@@Bearded_SARTECH aww that is cool. We used some flex seal spray on the grooming tub at work. Because the dogs got in there and loosened the seal of the drain and because some are just crazy when they get bathed. And we tried plumber puddy and it didn’t work but we finally used flex seal and we haven’t had an issue for 3 months now. I didn’t know it peels off. But I accidentally got some residue on the floor there lol

The other problem with the Gibson logo on the headstock, is that you cannot resell it. *Maybe* to a friend, but you have to be clear that it is a copy, and just to be sure, perhaps include a bill of sale where it is clearly stated that it is not a genuine Gibson, and keep a copy of it in case your friend gets in trouble for trying to sell it or pass it off as a Gibson.

That is correct. After a certain period of time you will get a refund from AliExpress because they hold the money in escrow until it is received. Now let me say this, contact a company on Facebook called Polaris4Music. They have Chibson stock in the United States and many get their guitars in a week and they are higher quality from most other Chibson dealers

I think the Chibson type guitars make sense if the name Gibson wasn't on the headstock. A personalised or plain one would be honest and a good choice for those of us on a budget.
Hi man, just how bad is the stock pickup in these guitars?
On the three I have gotten, I can say the pickups really aren’t bad. The real test is always the bridge pickup. Now, quality does vary from seller to seller. I always try and purchase not the cheapest guitar but maybe around the $300 range and that has always worked well for me. In fact in my Slash Les Paul I was planning on switching the pickups but I gotta admit I like the ones that it came with pretty good. They are not muddy and I liked them better than my real PRS. In fact I was recording a song with my PRS and I had to switch to the Chibson Slash Les Paul because it had more sustain and less muddy of a sound than the real PRS did.

Best tip 1 would surely be DON'T BUY ONE! Chances of get ripped off, getting it impounded or getting a pile of c##p are very high. Best tip 2, go to a guitar store, try something like a Sire Larry Carlton, which won't cost hundreds to get playable and sounding great, and is about the same money as a Chinson. Guess there's no UA-cam content there tho!

If it's 2021 and newer I completely agree. I just snagged an lp custom for 227$! Plus the resale is awesome.

You know what, you can argument as much as you want with as much as you like. Of course there’s that classic money issue on top of the list, it sounds the same for just about most of us. Sure, you can strip the guitar of pretty much every part that is likely to come loose, and replace them with high-quality parts as soon as you have the money, time and resources.
Ask the seller to ship it with a heavily sensored headstock and/or unbranded is also an alternative. I know a lot of people, espacially in the US will Ask the seller to drop the «made in the USA» marks, in addition to ask for a personal serial number way outside the Gibson systems. My respons to stuff like that is; «whatever makes you sleep at night».
No matter what you do and how, at the end of the day you will never own a Gibson Les Paul anything, not even with a cheap vinyl sticker that reveals it. Therefore, I can never understand, nor comprehend, how and why anyone can find any true joy in buying, owning and showing off a product that’s anything BUT what it says to appear.
You can make as much videos as you want, and say the infamous line «Chibson» as many times as you like, but no matter how you twist and turn it, you’re still promoting a fake, cheap and illegal copy of a Gibson Les Paul - as close to the real deal as one can achieve.
I’ve been looking for a reasonable priced Gibson Les Paul and came across a couple of B-stock guitars, all suitable for my income. But I wanted a standard gold top and a Custom black beauty, both of which Gibson are selling for a price dangerously close to robbery in broad daylight. I tried out the Epiphone models and that’s that. My guitar experience stretches across three decades now, and the standard quality on Epiphone has been raised sky high over the past twenty years - so high that blindtests done by experts often fails to hear, AND feel the difference between Gibson and Epiphone.
Only time will tell the true concequences of financing and promoting these fake markets, but it’ll be all but a pretty sight. When someones lawyer sends you a letter, you certainly know there’s an issue of which you’re responsable. It’s a shame you don’t take the hint.
There is nothing right with owning a fake Gibson guitar. Nothing at all.
My advice to all guitarlovers with my kind of income is; Go for the real deal where the name on the headstock matches the actual product.
Well said. There's plenty of blind sound challenges on here for people to watch. At this point there is no reason to honestly believe in tone woods vs plywood other than longevity. With modern cnc technology even being used by the usa brands these will be hard to tell the difference. But if anyone thinks they can buy one of these and spend the money replacing/upgrading tuners nut bridge pots switch input jack and pick ups and come out with a deal is insane. The price of all that will get you into a studio version if not then very close to it. Add to it that's it's a Chinese copy which there is already a legal version of in epiphone. Someone like this guy will make the argument that you're just paying for the logo well if you actually believe that and that it doesn't make a difference then why do you want the logo? Play an obvious $200 guitar and blow all our minds with how amazing it is. Is Gibson overpriced? Hell yeah they are, it's a running joke amongst anybody who knows anything about gear. Owning one says way more about your day job than it does about your playing. So that fact this guy makes 300 a week but wants everyone to think he owns a real gibson speaks to a lack of confidence with his income. Same type of person that buys a 25 year old luxury car and tells every woman at the bar he drives a Mercedes. That may be true but your still not financially stable. Broke down on the side of the road and broje down on stage both suck.Also if you buy 5 of these you could have bought one name brand.
Look I know money is tight for most of us and seeing a deal is tempting. But at the end of the day you bought nothing. It's not even epiphone or ltd. Getting something playable is more important than anything. Buy cheap that's fine but get a quality you can play. Then save your money until you can get what you want for real. But be confident in yourself and happy with where you are in life. You don't need a Northface on your coat to stay warm.

And another perspective; If this poisioned culture goes on, then one day someone will be standing on A stage with A chibson LP drawing significant attention from the Audiene, enough to achieve A fanbase that will raise media attention. Do you really think that Gibson will never find out about the artist promoting A fake guitar? And do you really think they’ll just look the other way? Look, we’re all living in democratic countries, which means that the laws are already there, although some of them only excists on paper. But sooner or later all sleeping laws will be exposed to A legal process, at minimum to set an example.
Where I come from (Norway) we usually give names to these laws, pretty much the name of the defendent seems logical. Who wants to be remembered as «the very first convicted fellon in the law against promoting fake copied products»? Not me.

Slash is well known to have played a '59 standard replica (not Gibson). I don't think it did any damage to the Gibson brand.

Probably not pertinent, years after the posting, however; my grievance is the Gibson/Fender branding, etc. If it comes branded, sand back the headstock, repaint black, if preferred, have a more suitable logo or even some artwork put in place. Also, get rid of the serial number. If, as you say, your Chibsons are as good as, even better than Gibson’s, well then why would you want the Gibson branding on it?! Are you ashamed of your Chibsons, to not give them their correct identity?

Tip 1-get a better job that pays more than $300 a week.

Chibsons exist because Gibson are now an elitist lifestyle brand, placing their guitars out of reach for most players.
Number one: From experience. You are NEVER….NEVER going to get what they say. The photos, neck, on and on…will be different.
And, sending it back to China wouldn’t be an option.
My best advice if you want one of these. Get on social media because they are loaded with them.
And
You can physically remove your duff from the sitting device, meet with this person and check out the nibs on the frets, the uneven neck, the baseball bat shape of the neck, the 20# weight, and the poor output/ scratchy pots.
Epiphone, and Mexican Strats are also a choice. Those……are closely scrutinized, even plecked.
The only thing going for chibsons is that..illegally, they have a fake Gibson or Fender logo.

I wouldn’t go that far but I have had great luck with the 3 I have. I do plan upgrading them over time. Mainly pickups and wiring. I have not had any tuning issues with them in the least. Many the first thing they do is get expensive tuners but it is not really necessary. But I do get some crackles in the jacks at times. And that is a common issue

Tip 1 - ask yourself WHY you want a Chibson. The answer is because you want a Gibson but can't afford/don't want to pay for one. It certainly isn't because you're reasoning that you will get the best value for money available in buying one. Paying homage to a brand you seemingly admire by ripping it off also seems a bit dubious. That basically leaves you trying to either fool yourself - or worse - other people - into believing that you've been stupid enough to over pay for a brand of guitar you aspire to when, in fact, all you've done is rip it off instead and get a less playable guitar than the literally hundreds of other options available to you.
Neither of those things. As I mentioned it is a great upgrade mod. Many of the Chibsons I have are unbranded.
