    Couple of questions: could you do a block like this out of cast iron? How much power did the final engine make?

    do you believe it would be possible to cast an engine like this in full size? Does this foundry have the cooling and lubrication channels?

    • @snagle87
      @snagle87  3 роки тому +1

      The casting does not but the original model does. I purposely blocked them off in the model. I believe you could cast a model twice the size of this one and get decent results with water jackets and maybe some oil channels.

      @@snagle87 I think it would be interesting for you to make one in original size. what do you think of this challenge?

    • @snagle87
      @snagle87  3 роки тому +2

      @@wesaderty I would have to upgrade everthing for casting that I own. I'd have to pour 80lbs+ of aluminum. I rather cast a 1/3 scale functional engine. But that's a project for an older, retired me...

      I will make a video for casting the head start to finish so you can see the whole process. Look up lost PLA casting on youtube. There are a handful of good videos out there.

    I love the engine block, but have no idea how you got to make it as nothing in the video showing, justa a pot of wax and then hot metal being poored.

    • @snagle87
      @snagle87  3 роки тому

      Thanks, I learned electronics by just jumping in head first by building a DIY engine management system (megasquirt) when I was 17. It was a harsh learning curve especially when it's your only mode of transportation. I would start out with Arduino. Find a project that you would like to do and don't be afraid to let some smoke out.

    Hello, in second 16, what liquid and at what temperature is it? What is this process for? At what temperature did you bring the plaster to burn the PLA. Thanks for your answe

    • @snagle87
      @snagle87  3 роки тому +1

      Paraffin wax melted to 103C+. For the plaster mold you bring it up slowly to 750C over 6-8hrs.

    A few safety corrections, wax melts, depending on its formula from between 100 and about 150 f, NOT C. You should not try to get it to 700 C you could have a serious fire as it boils at around 370 C, and flashes at 200 to 250... DO NOT Heat to 750 C. You will have some serious issues with fire or explosion when it starts to boil into vapor. Also if it flashes, do not try to put it out with water... you will have the mother of all explosions in your face.

    • @Wingnut353

      This is not lost wax... it's lost PLA, and the intention is to burn it out not melt it out. PLA also has a higher melting point than wax by a long way Granted you probably could do the latter and might even get improved results.

      It's just lost PLA casting... very similar to lost wax except you can 3d print the PLA easily then cast in plaster mould and burn out the PLA in the oven then pour like normal...
