Hi, so back in 2019 there was no subject wise cutoff for IAT, unlike NEST which has a subject wise cutoff, so one stood decent chance of getting IISER even if they left all of Maths section, I don't know how the rules have changed since, I'd suggest looking up the webpage.
Yes, Well to give you an idea, salary of a Doctoral researcher in Germany is around 40k€ per year, for Max Planck it is usually more thanks to allowances and stuff.
Brother i have a question Your first offer to israel...about the expenses will you get any stripends or own money And when can we earn after joining iiser
You get stipend from the host institute while doing MS abroad. After joining IISER, you expect to earn a decent amount through foreign internships and MS projects.
bro can a student from lower class background should think about making career in academia? i also want to do research but not in india. are there any options?
Yes, why not, my friend and batchmate from IISER-K has made a video on the same where he explained how he, someone from a very difficult background made it in academia. Go give it a watch. ua-cam.com/video/Se8S6qCGc8w/v-deo.htmlsi=JEM-RALFALynDgUU
No idea honestly, though from a purely placement standpoint it sucks. I'd say talk to Shashwat Sourabh from IISER-B (now at Washington University), he did BS in Data Science afaik.
I am did my masters in laser optics and many body problems. I am continuing my PhD in the laser optics and condensed matter physics (spectroscopy and microscopy).
Is it necessary to be able to understand and speak german language while pursuing master's or phd there? Is it beneficial academic wise? Do you also know german?
No, German is not needed while pursing a PhD, you see it is not a taught course rather a project, so you work as a employee and use English as medium of communication. In academics there is no use of German, however, it is useful to learn say when you are out socializing etc. I'd recommend you learn German as it helps socially when youa are not working. I am currently learning German.
Bhai iiser ke badd ka kya plan hai I mean jobs ye further studies Like mai prepare kar raha hu iiser K liya to it is worth it or not in sense of earning money Koi scope hai kya placement an all
Just asking, Did you recieve any certificate or anything from the Weizmann institute(like a masters degree, a diploma or something), or you only get the BS-MS degree from your own IISER even if you do your masters thesis and project abroad? Best of luck for your Phd and future works in academia
Thanks! So it's depends on which placing you are doing your MS project. At Weizmann we got a certificate from the Graduate School of Weizmann starting we were visiting students and received scholarship. When you submit your thesis at IISER, you need to have a declaration signed by your MS supervisor, that all work is yours and done under his supervisor at whatever institute, this declaration also serves as a certificate, this is mandatory for everyone wherever you do your project.
@@beingiiserite8965 Thanks for replying bro, so it probably depends upon the institute . I will give the IAT exam next year and am taking a drop year and so I am also studying some undergrad physics textbooks (I plan to major in physics as well).I read the halliday resnick krane books(vol 1 and 2) and they gave me a decent overview of the subjects. I also read the feynman lectures, they have the most intuitive descriptions for quantum mechanics and thermodynamics so i enjoyed it a lot, even thought the mathematics was a bit intense soi left quite a bit out. I then recently tried to read the classical theory of fields by landau and lifshitz but the mathematics is too advanced for me and i cant really understand the linear algebra and tensor calculus used in the books. What I wanted to ask is what are some math books that i can use to get a grasp of the undergrad physics and math that would be required at IISER, so that i am well prepared. Also are the physics textbooks i mentioned enough for a good grasp of the courses at IISER?
Hi, your effort is really amazing. I'd suggest lectures by Gilbert Strang for Linear Algebra, there are lots of books named something like "Mathematics for Physicist" you can try one of those for more applied mathematics/mathematical physics. This knowledge should be enough for your formative years at IISER. In 4 year though you'll learn really advanced concepts.
Hi, easy in what sense? Is it easy to get a PhD, you mean? Getting a PhD is relatively easy if you have the right experience. Is it easy doing a PhD? No.
Hi! To be honest, I gave my IAT back in 2019, so my experience is quite outdated. I'd say for IAT Bio and Chem, NCERT should suffice so focus on that, even if you do good in these two sections you stand a good chance of getting IISER. For Physics and Maths, I studied Tata McGrewhill books. I'd suggest talking to first year and second year students at IISERs. All the best! Believe in your and don't panic!
There's no placement as such at IISERs, you have search for options yourself and apply. I applied via Weizmann vacancies portal and cleared the interviews to do a MS project at WIS. Same applies for PhD applications.
I have made two videos regarding the opportunities after BS-MS from IISER, I'd say you watch the same. In short, there are a lot of opportunities in academia and RnD but placements are non existent.
Hello bhaiyya I am a 12 grader preparing for neet but also interested in giving iat but dont know much about it Can you tell me what actually is doing research means 🤔 and what is the meaning of placements ? What will happens if i do phd I actually want to become a scientist but i am a weak student in studies What are the job opportunities and salary And last thing after completing your journey what actually are you planning now Please 🙏 kindly reply my every queries
Hi, I have answered most of the questions you mentioned in the comments here, so I'll be very brief. Research basically means work on something new and original. I am actually planning to do change stream after my PhD, most probably industry.
Hi, I applied through the portal of Fritz Haber Institute and went through the standard procedure that interviews and all. To get selected at Max Planck Institutes, you need a good recommendation letter and a good research profile. Hope this helps, if you have any other queries to enquire.
Well to give you an idea, salary of a Doctoral researcher in Germany is around 40k€ per year, for Max Planck it is usually more thanks to allowances and stuff.
Hey brother i am confused i am in 12th with PCB and i am interested in research filed related to biology can you tell me how many courses are their for biology students and as you mentioned you choosen the subject after a year i am bit confused and how can i manage to studying maths
Hi, you see you will have to study Maths for the first year as it is mandatory (even PCM folks have to study Bio) as all 5 subjects, Maths, Physics, Bio, Chemistry and Earth Sciences are mandatory, after first year you have to choose any three of these five as your pre-major, then in third year you get your major.
Yes, you'll have to have Bio as one of the three pre-major subjects, then you'll have to clear the cutoff for Bio major as usually more people apply for Bio major then there are seats for Bio major.

Hi! Even I come from a middle class family like most folks at IISERs, I have even seen people from rather underprivileged backgrounds join IISER-K and succeed in going to good, high paying, places for a PhD. You should consider joining IISER, also there is funding for people who clear the INSPIRE criteria or have low family income. All the best!

@@beingiiserite8965 ok actually I am really confused to join isser or not as I could do research abroad even after bsc in India while I do my masters there because, isser is a integrated programe it takes 5 years and by bsc it could be done in 3years one of my frnd got fully funded sclorship in korea after bsc Will it be good And last ques 😅bhaiya if I join bsc should I join via deemed cllg or good cllg via cuet(Du , jnu etc ) will it make any difference as I am good at academics but can deemed cllg reduces the chances of getting fully funded scholarship
First of all it's is IISER not ISSER. I don't know how you can compare IISERs and other BSc college when in terms of research. In IISER, thanks to NEP2020, you can take a 4 year BS exit and get a funded MSc or even a PhD in US or Australia. I know some of my juniors have done so.
@@beingiiserite8965 that grt but then why a lot of students prefer to do integrated degree ?? When after 4 years they get fully funded sclorship abroad
That's because NEP2020 was implemented just a few years ago. Also, most people in IISER join a lab in the first or second year, so they usually prefer to continue till 5th year as it increases their publication chances (it usually takes 2 years of work to get anything publishable), being in a lab for long helps get a really solid recommendation letter. It is just not worth the effort leave, also if you do MSc separately then it'll take 6 years to complete BS and MSc, not 5 years. It's rather easy to just stay and get a project abroad.
I had 87% in 12th Boards. For me Boards were an afterthought, main aim for me was IISER Aptitude Test, ISI Entrance Exam and NEST. As long as you clear the admission cutoff, the board marks won't matter, nobody cares about 12th board once you are in a good university.
1.If you dont mind i would like to know at what age you came on this feet 9:16 2 . Thing i want to know that is it really that common that every student studying there are getting opportunities like those which you have shown . I know that these questions are little bit provocative but i really wanted to know the comparision of what i will be doing during those time. I ask these question bcz i genuinely feel that iseer are one of the most underrated among teens . Whose only motivation is to go to iit or to aiims . Even the content and the information are also very low in the net
Hi! So I was 17 when I joined IISER like most folks who are usually around 17-19 when they join (IISER only allows upto 2nd droppers to appear, in 2019 they only allowed first droppers), so you can do the math. Coming to point two, I've made two dedicated videos to this topic, go watch them for detailed answers but in short about ~80% go for a PhD either in India or Abroad (Stop underestimating PhDs in India, the only con of doing a PhD in India is low salary), most still prefer to go for a PhD abroad, rest go for MBA, industry etc. Regarding the internship and master's studies opportunities, there are plenty of options, and a lot of students take advantage of these. E.g. I wasn't the only one of the batch to get a position in Israel for MS, there were two of us, also I didn't go for any foreign summer internships like a lot of folks, many go for DAAD, Mitacs etc. So yeah a lot of students at IISERs get such opportunities to get hands-on exposure. I've some comments to make regarding IISERs are alternatives for IIT/AIIMS. In my opinion, IISERs are NOT an alternative for these paths; it's an apples-to-oranges comparison.
Well I. Germany, a PhD is considered an employment, so get a salary NOT a stipend. Most PhDs in Germany are based on TVöD 13 Salary scale, which can be anything between 3000-4600 Euros per month.
@@ChaitanyaSingh-w3i NIT CSE. Look IISERs are NOT a substitute for IITs/NITs, join ONLY if you want to do research, else you'll regret, life at IISER is hard (not to say life st IITs/NITs is anyway easy but research work takes a different type of dedication and mental strength to succeed). Also IITs/NITs can NOT be compared with IISERs, it's an oranges to apples comparison.
Not really. Research landscape in India is catching up (see this year's Nature Index Article). Also, BS-MS isn't an alternative for BTech, most people do it because they are genuinely interested in academia.
@beingiiserite8965 genuine interested in academic only 1-2% rest did not get placement and become teacher. Most colleges in India, did not follow AICTE norms and paying meager salaries. Outliers everywhere, so we can't build presctive on them.
Not really, also most IISER folks are genuinely interested folks, it's not your average BSc college. Most IISER graduates go for a PhD (80% go abroad, 20% stay in India thanks to schemes like PMRF etc, this is typical for most IISER graduates, outliers at IISERs are those that join Ivy leagues or Oxbridge, personally know 2 of my close IISER friends who are in Ivy league), then either move to academia or industry. When I say academia, I mean research centers like CSIR institutes in India, CNRS institutes in France, MPIs in Germany etc. I don't know how you are comparing research institutions and AICTE institutes that mostly deal with technical education. But yeah in general getting a professorial position in a educational institution like IISERs, IITs is difficult. I'd suggest you look at my video on career prospects after IISER.
@@beingiiserite8965 0.06% is our GDP percentage expense in Research. I know many IISER passout and done PhD but not getting good money as compare to tier 3 engineering college graduates. That's why student should go for professional degree then research. Atleast they have backup for their career. At the end, we need money. Even researches or academic in USA are having meager pays. This is cruel reality of research.
I have made a separate video with regards to the package after IISER if you opt for placement. Now coming to "package after PhD" let me get this straight there is NO concept of a package or campus placement in Europe or US, you have to find a job yourself but since you hold a PhD you expect more than more than 4,500 Euros per month atleast.

Hi, so back in 2019 there was no subject wise cutoff for IAT, unlike NEST which has a subject wise cutoff, so one stood decent chance of getting IISER even if they left all of Maths section, I don't know how the rules have changed since, I'd suggest looking up the webpage.
Do we get steipund for studying abroad?
Yes, Well to give you an idea, salary of a Doctoral researcher in Germany is around 40k€ per year, for Max Planck it is usually more thanks to allowances and stuff.
Brother i have a question
Your first offer to israel...about the expenses will you get any stripends or own money
And when can we earn after joining iiser
You get stipend from the host institute while doing MS abroad. After joining IISER, you expect to earn a decent amount through foreign internships and MS projects.
bro can a student from lower class background should think about making career in academia? i also want to do research but not in india. are there any options?
Yes, why not, my friend and batchmate from IISER-K has made a video on the same where he explained how he, someone from a very difficult background made it in academia. Go give it a watch. ua-cam.com/video/Se8S6qCGc8w/v-deo.htmlsi=JEM-RALFALynDgUU

IISER Aptitude Test is all India entrance exam for admission to IISER, IISc and IIT-M Medical Science.
Hello bro how's data science bs in iser as a degree
No idea honestly, though from a purely placement standpoint it sucks. I'd say talk to Shashwat Sourabh from IISER-B (now at Washington University), he did BS in Data Science afaik.
Which course/field did you choose???❤

Yes, you are eligible for IISER Aptitude Test 2025.
How did you become financially independent while doing MS ? Bro
Stipend!

I am doing PhD right now. I have made a video on placements at IISER-K, go check it out!
@@beingiiserite8965 thanks for the reply, i understand now
Hi, your effort is really amazing.
@@beingiiserite8965 thank you again :D ill buy the gilbert strang one then :)

Sir I'm in class 9 & i want to join iiser kolkata. I'm also from kolkata. My question is after masters is it easy to do phd abroad. 😅😊
Hi, easy in what sense? Is it easy to get a PhD, you mean? Getting a PhD is relatively easy if you have the right experience. Is it easy doing a PhD? No.
I wasted my 11th and 12th i have to appear for IAT 2025 how should I start my preparation? Or is this only going to be a dream 😢
How u get placement and join abroad college for ur thesis can u please tell
There's no placement as such at IISERs, you have search for options yourself and apply. I applied via Weizmann vacancies portal and cleared the interviews to do a MS project at WIS. Same applies for PhD applications.

Now I am in 11th standard so I decided that after 12th I will give IAT exam so after 5 years BS-MS degree is there any job opportunities?
I have made two videos regarding the opportunities after BS-MS from IISER, I'd say you watch the same. In short, there are a lot of opportunities in academia and RnD but placements are non existent.

Hi, I have answered most of the questions you mentioned in the comments here, so I'll be very brief. Research basically means work on something new and original. I am actually planning to do change stream after my PhD, most probably industry.
Now are you live in India or outside?
I am living in Berlin, Germany these days.
I am also very interested in research.
I want to know how you got at max plank university?
Hi, I applied through the portal of Fritz Haber Institute and went through the standard procedure that interviews and all. To get selected at Max Planck Institutes, you need a good recommendation letter and a good research profile. Hope this helps, if you have any other queries to enquire.
Brother what about income
@@beingiiserite8965 thanks brother
@beingiiserite8965 one last question like in third year we can choose biology as a Major?? As I am interested in biotechnology 😅
Yes, you'll have to have Bio as one of the three pre-major subjects, then you'll have to clear the cutoff for Bio major as usually more people apply for Bio major then there are seats for Bio major.

I am very confused

@@beingiiserite8965 ok actually I am really confused to join isser or not as I could do research abroad even after bsc in India while I do my masters there because, isser is a integrated programe it takes 5 years and by bsc it could be done in 3years one of my frnd got fully funded sclorship in korea after bsc
Will it be good
And last ques 😅bhaiya if I join bsc should I join via deemed cllg or good cllg via cuet(Du , jnu etc ) will it make any difference as I am good at academics but can deemed cllg reduces the chances of getting fully funded scholarship
How much did you score in your 12 th please reply
I had 87% in 12th Boards. For me Boards were an afterthought, main aim for me was IISER Aptitude Test, ISI Entrance Exam and NEST. As long as you clear the admission cutoff, the board marks won't matter, nobody cares about 12th board once you are in a good university.

Feel free to ask more questions regarding IISER and a career in academia.
Thank you bhaiya

If I got cse at nit and IISER. Which should I choose for better future?

No scope of research in india. Go for BTech
Well, can't argue with a naysayer.
bro what about packages after iiser or phd??
I have made a separate video with regards to the package after IISER if you opt for placement. Now coming to "package after PhD" let me get this straight there is NO concept of a package or campus placement in Europe or US, you have to find a job yourself but since you hold a PhD you expect more than more than 4,500 Euros per month atleast.
