    Hi Sheryl! Thank you for your video, so easy to follow! I just subscribed yesterday and I think I have watched all your videos now ☺, love your easy manner and seeing your chickens in your garden! Would love to know a little about you and any other pets you might have in a future video, I think I heard a cat in the background in one vid 😃. Do you have a teaching background as you have a lovely presentational style. Thanks for all the hard work you put in to your channel, appreciate it 💗

      Paige Boswell Hi Paige. Thank you for subscribing and for your kind comments. Apart from the chickens I just have one elderly and rather deaf cat and a very indulgent husband. No I don't have a teaching background, I'm a transfusion scientist, but over the years many people have shared their knowledge with me and I'm very glad to share what I've learned.

    Outstanding presentation of a subject that is too often discussed in an overly complicated manner. You made it so simple and easy to follow. THAT is how great teachers teach! You put a huge amount of effort into this one!
    I have some Red Star and Black Star Hybrids in my flock (from Murray McMurray Hatchery) as well as some Heritage breeds and I have to say the sex links are actually incredible birds in both egg production and vigor. Are you breeding your own sex link chicks?

    • @chickensinmygarden
      @chickensinmygarden  6 років тому +3

      Wow! Thank you!
      Yes the commercial hybrids are great producers - the producers' profits depend on it!
      I have bred colour coded Wyandottes using the sex linked Silver gene. That's a fun one because I also mixed in the gene that codes for the lacing colour (black or white). I might do a video about it one day.

    Hi Sheryl i have some questions. why some Z chromosome carry silver dominant gene and some are not? is that possible sex linked gene is recessive gene?

    • @chickensinmygarden
      @chickensinmygarden  Рік тому

      Some individuals have the S gene and others don't. It's just an inherited polymorphism, the same as the way some individuals have brown eyes or curly hair and others don't. It just depends on what genes the parents had and which they passed on to the offspring.
      Since a sex-linked gene is simply a gene that is carried on one of the sex chromosomes, then yes certainly a recessive gene could be carried on a sex chromosome - it would therefore be a sex-linked recessive gene.

    I have a Question 🙋🏽‍♂️
    I been using your teachings and creating amazing birds so I wanna Say thank you first!😂
    My question is
    I have a Dark Brahma rooster and one Gold partridge Brahma will the chicks be gold roosters and the hens be silver ?

    • @krishnabrian691
      @krishnabrian691 Рік тому

      Or would both be gold ?

    • @chickensinmygarden
      @chickensinmygarden  Рік тому +1

      Assuming the "dark" brahma is genetically silver pencilled (black pencilling over silver ground colour) and the gold partridge is black pencilling over gold ground colour, then -
      If you had a purebred gold rooster and silver hen the offspring would be gold females and silver males.
      But since you have a silver rooster and gold hen the offspring will not be colour sexed. Now we don't know whether your rooster is purebred homozygous for Silver since he has two genes but only needs one (dominant) Silver gene to look the way he does. But if he's homozygous then all his chicks would carry the Silver gene and therefore look like him.

    I have a question 🙋🏽‍♂️ about silkies breed of chickens.
    If you for instance breed a silki rooster with a regular feather hens and then you take the cross breed offsprings and bred it back to a silkie rooster would the third or forth generation grow the silky feather again?

    • @chickensinmygarden
      @chickensinmygarden  3 роки тому +1

      Yes. About half of the third generation should be silkies.
      In fact you can breed the second generation together (even though they don't look silkied) and a quarter of the chicks should be silkies.
