Very kind! I appreciate this! And re the mounts, I was thinking about that! A little triangular mount. And I’m going to paint the cans the new body colour soon 😎
This thing looks awesome, the proportions are great, body doesn’t look out of place, I like the jerry cans. Perfect pub cruiser / terrain weapon. Cheers from Sydney, Australia.
Neat looking solution 👍 Maybe make providion for webbing straps to keep the cans more secure. You could also mount the rear number plate? Label the cans Gin and Tonic 😁
A happy, safe and prosperous new year to you too. Love the Gerry cans rack. perhaps a small tool box in between, and a wire mesh floor ? What about mud flaps for the front wheels as you may get a bit messy in rain or snow/slush. Take it easy and try not to stress. Oh ! and please, not the Ali G one piece bathing suit !!!!! God bless.
@HudsonAutoFilms dark green will show every minut ding and look dirtywith road spray. I just seen a cool colour. 75th Anaversary discovery colour. Kind of a mint green.
Honestly I hoped you would get rid of the Jerrycan bracket and make a spare wheel carrier Dakar style, where the wheels protrude from the back. But I can see this means cutting more from the Aston body and even the perfect boot and bumper.
It’s a nice idea and one i considered. But yes the cutting is a lot… and I did some mock ups and it looked awful. I had hoped it would work, but the proportions of the car just didn’t suit it
@HudsonAutoFilms I think you understand incorrect; I assume you want to put the spare wheel on back right in front of where normally the license plate would reside. What I meant was basically putting the spare wheel(s) inside the trunk and having them protrude from the back. So the direction of the spare wheel is the same as the others on the car. I'm not a big fan of jerrycans at the back right above the tow bar as the connection of the trailer might hit the jerrycans once backing up to the trailer
Cool solution. Don't worry about Pinto jokes, most 70s cars had the fuel tank in the same place. Hope you have some good days soon mate, or at least less bad ones :)
There’s a bit of play, so I can get up to a CM of space. I think that, combined with a rubber strip will keep things from rubbing where you don’t want them to!
if you are planning to cross the country , and if you go more up north offroad , i would recomend getting traction pads , aspecialy with the icy weather going on also great job on the build so far
Seeing you have an issue with the wheel arches not aligning with the wheel base , would it not have been a better fix by extending the rear 1/4 panels to hide and help the wheel arch issue you currently have and it would have given you extra space in the trunk area rather than a couple of unsightly fuel tanks. Probably less welding to. Just an observation.
I’m glad you’re feeling a bit better. I’m sure I speak for all of us that your health is more important than content. We’re here when you’re ready. To comment on the video I’m really not sure about the Jerrycan thing. It feels like a quick fix / compromise. Is there any way you could incorporate a spare wheel instead? I know they’re huge but to me it feels a step worth taking. But you da man. Take care Al
Thanks Al! Appreciate the support! The wheel idea was something I’d hoped would work out. But I mocked it up and it looked ridiculous. Hard to explain, but it didn’t work with the body lines of the car at all! Take care!
I know you may have been asked this before. But assume there will cutting needed to rear of the front wheel arch so that the front wheels don’t rub when going off road /
@HudsonAutoFilms ...... please do the biggish flared arches, it'll look so good and cover up all the misalignment problems. Also...imo...the rectangular jerrycan rack looks fart too (oops) simple/farmerish/naff, sorry. How about slightly more stylised/professional looking? All the best for a very Happy New year 👍✌️🇬🇧
Hello there! Great video, fantastic project made all the more impressive to think that your workshop has no electricity! Amazing! Hope you feel better soon young sir and manage to create what most can only dream about! All the best for the future, looking forward to the next episode! A Fantastic start to 2025! 👍
I'm genuinely concerned about incorporating the Ford Pinto's most notorious feature with those fuel cans. I prefer not having you meet a horrible end due to someone rear ending the car. What about an ice cream or popcorn dispenser instead? It would be novel.
I think it’s honestly more of a visual thing. Yes they will be used when on adventures…but for the most part they’ll be empty. But, indeed, diesel reduces the danger significantly!
Looks great. Any plans on joining the tonneau cover & boot id as 1 piece to make a bigger boot space if you're not fitting a convertible roof ? Maybe a spare wheel mounted on top of the boot lid ?
What colour are u gonna do ur off road Aston Martin out of curiosity like what colour is it gonna be silver? like some of its wheel panels is gonna be silver or a different colour per haps
I think it was episode 4 of this series I suggested the back end piece a spot for a spare, the fuel cans are awesome too, could modify it to double mount a spare tyre over them or interchange them making it modular. Edit: the older episodes blew up i cant my comment haha...
I would love to, but I haven’t been able to make the wheels look right! For some reason the mock ups really don’t suit the car. Maybe I’ll find a creative solution down the line!
Even if you never use those Gerry cans for purpose the cover-up of the chassis works brilliantly, there's no real way to this type of work without some sort of electricity, interested to see your solution's
Absolutely! It’s a nice easy fix for the chassis. Indeed, it’s been really time consuming having to move between home and the barn dependent on whether a job needs power…not for long though!
Looks, great! I do have a question, for some reason I thought you mentioned a full size spare in a previous video. If not above the tow hitch, then do you have a location in mind for it? Although, you did leave enough space between the jerry cans to stick a spare tire stud to hang one off of.
It was an idea! But after some mocking up, it looked really bad…I was quite surprised. It messed with the whole look of the car. BUT… I haven’t fully dismissed it, and the additional space on the rack will be tested with a spare!
Looks great In person! The rear bumper is such a subtle curve, there’s not much profile to shape anything around, unless it extended to the sides of the car. Which would cause issues with the exhaust outlets. Hard to convey certain things on camera
Just curious if there are any rules/ regs about carrying jerrycans full of fuel hanging off the rear? Also any about the square edges etc on the frame. Otherwise, it's coming along nicely. Looking forwards to more progress with the car and the barn.
If you´re suffering from some sort of CFS: Please, please never push yourself over your personal limits and if you don´t feel well, just rest. Otherwise you risk completely ruining your health, it´s not any disease that you can just "work through".
Until that day when you may need to claim on your insurance and they say that, because of the mods you're not insured. If they can get out of paying they will.
Answered this in more detail on another comment. But basically it didn’t work, the body didn’t allow for it to look good. And the weight of the wheels. All sorts of issues came up in trying!
And to kkep the Jerry can theeme going,it could be with with a bagasje tray on the boot. Mabye a shovel straped to one rear fender and a axe on the other, like old miltary jeeps used to have
That gas can mount is ugly with a capital U. Get yourself some round tubing and build something that fits the shape of the body and wraps to the fenders. Leave a gap between the cans for a winch which you will surely need.
The build is looking sicker and sicker with every video. Can't wait too see the next video to see what you are cooking up!
Thank you! Glad you like it! Feels a shame to take it to pieces now! But it has to be done!!
Practical solution for the extra length in the chassis, great video✌️
Thank you!
woooo i love this thingamajig

HAPPY NEW YEAR
Haha 😂 happy new year!
Use an angle bracket bolted to the unused tow ball bolt holes to support the box at the rear.
Good idea!
@@HudsonAutoFilmsI quite like the idea of a reinforced brake fluid container
Two leather straps to secure the jerry cans would be good.
I’ve got some cool straps that will go on! Lockable as well :)
This thing looks awesome, the proportions are great, body doesn’t look out of place, I like the jerry cans. Perfect pub cruiser / terrain weapon. Cheers from Sydney, Australia.
It’s really coming together! There have been moments where I thought it would never work, but we’re almost there now! Thanks for the support!!
looking forward to watching this on tommorows lunch break, hope its a banger as all the others
I think you’ll enjoy!
You could do twin UHF aerials on this rear body mounts.
Great work mate.
Cheers Pat🇦🇺
Very good idea! I like that a lot! Thanks for the support Pat! Best wishes
Neat looking solution 👍 Maybe make providion for webbing straps to keep the cans more secure. You could also mount the rear number plate? Label the cans Gin and Tonic 😁
Instantly does a good job of visually tricking your eye into ignoring that massive protrusion of the rangey chassis at the rear. Job well done.
It really does. Such a basic fix, but suddenly it looks deliberate and functional!
God bless.
Great ideas Jeff! I’ll definitely need some tools!! Haha no bathing suits anytime soon!!! Best wishes :)
Love the solution. awesome build
Thank you!!
My ocd can’t wait for this thing to be looking spiffy
Me too! It’s going to be awesome 😎
Probably look good in flat green paint. Looking good. 👍👍✌️🇬🇧
British racing green is the plan!

Thank you mate! I think most of the time they’ll be empty too! You don’t often need extra fuel driving around town!!
Fuel tank in same place yes. The pinto problem was the filler neck.
Do you think a gap between the frame and the rear bodywork of the car will be needed? They will rub together otherwise wont they?
There’s a bit of play, so I can get up to a CM of space. I think that, combined with a rubber strip will keep things from rubbing where you don’t want them to!

spare wheel carrier mounted on the chassis might be kinda cool?
I mocked it up and it didn’t look as good as hoped. The proportions of the Aston really clashed for some reason!

I just checked the channel 2 hours ago and now the videos here😂
I was a bit late!
Carry On !

Good proof of concept. Now build a nice looking rig out of tube piping. You know it would look awesome. The current onr is too bulky.
I like it!

I can always swap it myself, when I buy the car from you 😅❤

I know you may have been asked this before. But assume there will cutting needed to rear of the front wheel arch so that the front wheels don’t rub when going off road /
I will have to a bit. I’m still a bit uncertain on whether it will have extended arches etc. But we’ll figure it out!

Great video! You don’t look well still! Take it easy!!
Hi. If you plan to go cross country journey, you probably need some locking solution for jerry cans against theft and jerry cans lids too.
Indeed, I’ve got locking ratchets which will secure them. Obviously someone could cut a strap…but only so much you can do!
Hello there! Great video, fantastic project made all the more impressive to think that your workshop has no electricity! Amazing! it's diesel

@ and if you wanted weight in there then water will do the trick 😊
Good idea with the Jerry cans. If you do not go for a castrol or other race livery,it would look cool in black/grey/white- City camouflage.
That would be cool! I’m thinking some sort of dark green with accents
what you got planned for the DB9?
Nothing at the moment!
Looks great. Any plans on joining the tonneau cover & boot id as 1 piece to make a bigger boot space if you're not fitting a convertible roof ? Maybe a spare wheel mounted on top of the boot lid ?
I might to! The spare would be cool, but very heavy if I need to access the boot!!

@HudsonAutoFilms nice work mate the pain of no electric is a big deal especially for welding
Looks, great! I do have a question, for some reason I thought you mentioned a full size spare in a previous video. If not above the tow hitch, then do you have a location in mind for it? Although, you did leave enough space between the jerry cans to stick a spare tire stud to hang one off of.

Should have gone for machine gun instead of those cans 😅
😂
Nice job! But what if Jerry can't?
Then we’re buggered!!
Square section tubing maybe a bit incongruous against those Aston flanks. I mean, would Ali G wear angle bar specs?
Looks great In person! The rear bumper is such a subtle curve, there’s not much profile to shape anything around, unless it extended to the sides of the car. Which would cause issues with the exhaust outlets. Hard to convey certain things on camera
This rubber sheeting you mentioned, I assume it's neoprene or some other form of synthetic rubber?
Indeed, neoprene sheet!
Just curious if there are any rules/ regs about carrying jerrycans full of fuel hanging off the rear? Also any about the square edges etc on the frame. Otherwise, it's coming along nicely. Looking forwards to more progress with the car and the barn.
Not that I’ve seen! I’m not sure they expect it to happen often! But realistically they’ll be empty most of the time! Lots of fun to come :)
If you cut the ends of the square tubing at a 45 degree angle and weld them together you won't have ugly open ends of the tubes exposed.
That’s the plan!
You would need locking straps for the cans.
I’ve got one ready!
If you´re suffering from some sort of CFS: Please, please never push yourself over your personal limits and if you don´t feel well, just rest. Otherwise you risk completely ruining your health, it´s not any disease that you can just "work through".

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Until that day when you may need to claim on your insurance and they say that, because of the mods you're not insured. If they can get out of paying they will.
I can’t risk it!
Indeed. I have a special policy set up (even while laid up) it took a while to get it sorted and clarify what exactly had been done
Could you not of made spare wheel carrier instead of fuel cans ?🤔

That gas can mount is ugly with a capital U. Get yourself some round tubing and build something that fits the shape of the body and wraps to the fenders. Leave a gap between the cans for a winch which you will surely need.
Unlikely to need a winch on the back and that would put the cans in front of the exhaust. Does the job and I like it
PS are they not a dangerous place as incase of a rear end accident. Fuel and metal don't mix in an impact situation
It’s diesel, so less of an issue. But also…for the most part they’ll be empty. As I’m not sure I’ll need extra fuel when I’m going to the supermarket!
