    I’m impressed by how long they keep the crabs alive before breaking them down. That’s vital to fresh crab and this company doesn’t disappoint. I also appreciated their efforts at cooking, cooling and packing. Every process adds great value to a normally fragile and short lived product. Well done!

    *I'm amazed by the careful preservation of live crabs before processing. It's crucial for maintaining freshness, and this company excels in that aspect. The meticulous cooking, cooling, and packaging processes also contribute immense value to a delicate and short-lived product. Impressive work!*

    great video, many people have no idea that the snow and king crabs are already cooked when they get to them frozen. sadly. one box, like the one at 7:47 time frame here, is nearly 500 bucks at costco. so, its too pricy for me, but i love the other choices, like snow crab, atlantic red crab, Dungeness crab, etc. I did some videos on some of those crabs, here on youtube (take a look) but i really enjoyed this video. good job.

      When I was 19 years old between high school and university, that spring and summer I worked on a cozy little cruise ship that routed between Victoria, British Columbia, and Skagway Alaska.
      This was just a little over 50 years ago.
      The crew dined on King Crab every day. For free. Along with fresh salmon and halibut - I enjoyed the marvelous fortune of eating no meat until the cruise season ended. It was all seafood.
      The crab was delicious, huge and ridiculously plentiful back then. I completely took it for granted - everyone did. It was so ubiquitous that it was ridiculously cheap.
      But that was then. The last time I had KIng Crab was 1982.

    • @burleybater
      @burleybater 7 місяців тому

      @@ms.annthrope415 When an average consumer investigates what it will actually cost to buy enough KIng Crab for a family dinner, then we begin to understand the voraciousness of the industry. There are very few foods that cost more per pound weight than this crab.
      The same thing is happening to all the apex seafood targets: Bluefin tuna, Halibut as two other examples.
      It is obviously what took down the Canadian/Newfoundland Grand Banks cod fishery - a resource that had bravely stood its ground for five centuries.
      It's been 30 years since that fishery collapsed, and it never did come back in any commercially viable way.
      Seafood, properly managed, could help supplement the feeding of a hungry world. But when seafood dinners in Manhattan are pulling in upwards of $200 a plate, the peasants lose out.

Colossal legs are the only ones worth buying and they are $90/lb. To prepare a dinner for you, your partner and two guests with a a nice bottle of wine or two and a side of coleslaw will cost about $800. Most of these people are unemployed this year since the King Crab stocks crashed again and the fishery was closed. These crab are cyclical in nature with up years and down years. The snow crab stocks did the same this year. If you buy king crab this year it's either old or came from unregulated Russian fisheries on the other side of the Bering strait. You can often tell because the crab legs are so much smaller. Most Russian crab wouldn't have been of legal size in the US fishery.
