Little late on your airbag answer...yup they are the way to go....installed them on the first Tacoma in 1985 and carried a Lance cab over camper.
Are those screws that hold the unit to the bracket screwed into the body of the unit? Weird. Y would think there would be small bolts?!?!

Great video. My 2022 is identical. I decided to locate my box to the right of the steering wheel. Easier on the knees.

Great video! The tow package is standard on ALL V6 Tacoma's. I have a 2018 SR5 and mine has the trailer wiring from the factory.
Picking up new Tacoma tommorrow and ordered Brake controller tonight . Have Tekonsha controller on my 04 and loved it also. The plug and play on this one sold me ! Thanks for great video.

I just got a P3 and waiting for the adapter cable to come in so I can do an install. Got a 2016 Tacoma and a small travel trailer. This will work awesome 👏🏼. Can’t wait to install and try it out!!!
I just got a 22 TRD and downsized from full size truck. Was wondering on the 6x12, how is the power range on pulling? Does the truck die on inclines, because it seems to be a snail here in the mountains where I live at 5600 ft. Thanks
Thanks for info rick...I went with the Tekonsha 90160 Primus IQ - little less expensive but it should work for the smaller trailer I'm hauling. Your directions were spot on how to find the wires, ground screw and what harness to buy. Great video...only complaint is that the video sounds like it skipping while you are talking...maybe my 50 year old mind can't function like yours....All good. Next up is to get rid of my chrome!! thanks
Does that wire harness plug n play fit your truck when I used ur link it says it won't work for the 2021....just wondering if the plug fit ur truck plug

Great video! It made my installation of the same controller you have quite simple (in my 2021 SR with towing package). The only thing I did differently was to install it lower...further down from the spot you chose). Actually, I did it by accident, but it seems to be fine. It’s still well above my foot and shin, and although a bit more inconvenient if a manual override were necessary (a little further reach), the nice thing is that there are NO visible wires whatsoever. So, for what it’s worth, that’s another spot that is acceptable for a brake controller mounting location. Thanks, again!
Is the harness for the 2021 the same as the 2020. I need to order one
I have the Tekonsha Primus IQ which is not as fancy as the P3. I ordered the same wire harness for the SR5 I'm waiting to get. I'll be Moving the controller over from my Jeep. I tow a pop up camper.

Using this vid for the 2021Casita ID picking up end of March. No one at Casita mentioned I needed a BC. So glad I bought the manual and read the prep info. Obviously I’m a newbie. I have a 2020 Taco SR 4x4 V6 w/tow pkg. Can’t find tow hitch info in the Toyota manual. Hoping to avoid any other surprises!.
My Toyota adapter doesn't have a separate ground, it's all contained.... Controller also has constant power. Is this normal? Installed on a 2017.
Check on that. It takes 15 minutes for mine to shut off once the truck is off
@@TacoRick Yeah, mine takes the same time to shut off. Got it installed when I posted that comment. White wire was part of plug, not a separate ground connection. Interesting they changed it (mine is from 2nd gen/years older). Hauled a GS300 this weekend on a trailer. Brake controller worked great. Thanks for these videos. Cheers
Put the brake controller in that location and caught my shin on it twice getting out of truck. IMO, not a good location. Not sure where to install it?

I ended up modifying the area where the switches to the left of the steering wheel. Popped out the blank switch. Measured the size of controller and etched it on the plastic. Cut it out. Required modifying the small plastic piece inside to allow the controller to recess up to the manual brake lever. Perfect place!
@@mikehixson5027 can you post a picture. Its a royal pain to get in and out of my 22 and the shin issue will be a challenge
just finished installing the P3 in my 2017 Tacoma. You video was very helpful. But here's a question. After calibrating my trailer I notice the right brake grabs more than the left, especially slowing down hill, where it the right actually skids. I tried loosening the brake shoe tensioning rod as much as possible but it still grabs. May not be a big deal but I noticed a significant heat between the two. Any suggestions on how I can remedy this?
I would think that's more in the trailer itself. Trailer brakes are not controlled independently. When you brake the controller just tells the trailer to apply brake and by how much.
@@TacoRick I understand they are not independent. Maybe I could tightened the tension rod on the one that's not locking and recalibrate?

It stays on for 15 minutes then shuts off

i want a lift on mine, but i’m scared about it killing my gas milage. how’s yours? did it affect it much?
The list doesnt affect gas mpg that much. It's your bigger and heavier tires that will affect it more than anything. The lift only was just like 1 mpg reduction. Tge bigger tires was a 3 to 5 mpg lose in my case

Hmmm... should have a ground cable...
Mine had white ground incorporated into Toyota plug/wires.

It will. It's says it wont because a lot of sellers haven't updated there fit guide to say it fits the 2020s. The 2020 is identical to the 2018 and 2019.
