Brilliant, the suggestions, reversing the hinge with a rabbet clearance for the hinge barrel will locate the bending axis to the edge of the hold down and adding a cam lever will facilitate the the hold down process. In addition, adding a laminated meta strip to the underside of the hold down will reinforce the brake edge.
That is cool. I think for the hold down piece, I'd have added bolts with wing nuts and washers so I wouldn't have to unscrew it all the time. I have just a few pieces to bend into a box and this jig works!!
Thanks for the ideas used in this simple but effective bending jig. I have a few bending jobs (flat thin aluminum) that this will do the job for me. Fast to build and useful for later small jobs.
Sweet jig!!! I was thinking of something similar for a project I'm getting ready to make. Thanks for making this look more simple and produce great results compared to what I would make. Thanks for sharing. !!
Great idea, Dimitris! I made myself like device made of metal, but it is much more difficult to manufacture :(. And your device can be made in 10 minutes! I like it ! Mark.
If you put slots in the wood and use screw knobs with washersinstead of just screws, you can back the tool (bit with the bevel edge) off a bit for slightly different thickness metal
I like it, but if you flipped the hinge over and mortised out a spot for the barrel only, you could make the break much more accurate. It would almost eliminate the gap.
Having sliced my finger on sheet metal once upon a time, seeing you make the long cut and then flex the sheet with your bare hands did make me cringe a bit. But, this is still a good project.
HA! Nifty :D Next instead of screws on the bar that holds the metal sheet you can add a locking bar on top of it with a hinge in one end and a lock in the other if you get tired of the screws ...
Gonna make a bender but out of metal and weld it up with a powerarc. It just doesn't seem right to me making a tool for metal that is made out of wood.
+Dutchhorse I actually need it for some parts of the beehive I am making! But I think I will use it in future projects in general! Thanks for watching! :)
Nice build. I like it a lot. I'm curious as to what part you are making for your bee hive? With the size of the pieces you showed on the video, all I can think of is maybe some skids to rest the frames on. Am I close?
GD i was think the same thing. I didnt have time to make one so i just used good ol pliers, 5-in-1 and hammer lol. Plus its was just for a one time project, but i'll definitely keep this in mind. Great vid!
I guess a plywood brake will last long enough to get someone through a project or two as long as you don't need to bend any 16 gauge. I applaud your resourcefulness and ability to think outside the box. However, I think I will be using steel when I make my own brake. Great video though. I enjoyed the sound track (got it stuck in my head actually). Be well brother.
Scrap wood City Well, you did a good job. Feel pride for that and keep on being the good, compassionate person that I sense you are. Solidarity, Brother!! May Yeshu and I AM be with you!! Be well, brother.
Verah nice, verah nice. I like how damn simple it is. Only thing I'd want would be cam locking levers instead of screws but that adds at least 2 hours or $20 to the build. And btw, your channel name is awesome.

Nice project man. Very clever idea, ideal for adding metal corners on wooden boxes. Love it!
+Vasilis Papadopoulos (FS WoodWorking) thank you, glad you found it useful! Totally a agree on the metal corners idea.
Just the right design I need. Cool seeing how you snapped that length off too. Thx.

Great job and very simple. No welding and designed to build as large as necessary
thank you
Just made it. Works a treat . Thanks for posting.
Nice to hear that. Thank you

Cool, wonder how many pieces could be done, will try , never say never
Must use bolts unless that's for 1 time use. screw hole will strip.

+Nicholas Gomez glad you found it useful! :)
Excellent job mate, looks like tomorrow is booked up...
+Mark McCluney thanks man
Has this stood up to use so far? I plan on welding a metal brake with my powerarc according to this designs.
Nice Break! I have never thought of making one but why not! sweet idea!
+Wood By Wright glad you liked it. I saw it on a beehive making video. Check the description of the video for a link!
Need to ask, the top wood with angle, is it 45 degree?
Came for the info. Stayed for the music. Both excellent.
Thank you
Hi Scrap wood city can you tell me please up to what thickness metal will it bend. Thanks
I think till 1mm it's ok!
Nice rig, simple and can be made with scraps.
+Dan The Maker Man thanks, glad you liked it
nice fast video ......now I'm ready to make mine and start bending brass sheet. Thank you.
Awesome, thanks
Great idea, Dimitris!

Mark.
Thank you very much. Glad you found it useful!
Neat and simple. Drop the clamp screws and put small bolts with wing nuts.
thanks
great video! just what I need. only one question, what is the 0:51 cut for?
Thanks. The screws I had were to long, so I trimmed them flush with the rotary tool and a grinding disc!

simple and effective! i dig it
+Matt Diresta thanks man
You'd get much better bends if you recessed the hinges so the pins lined up with the edge of all 3 pieces of wood.
What knife did you use to scor the metal ?
HA! Nifty :D

+PinkPonyOfPrey cool idea, thanks
That looks useful! I'll have to remember this.
+Makify1 thanks man, I appreciate it

just fine. Thanks !
Keep on trucking ! (from France)
+MakeFix thank you very much
Ur a beast bro saved my ass today nice job
I am glad I helped
nice condensed video!
thank you
Really neat jig! Any tinsmithing projects coming up?

Next do the jig for bending iron legs !! Great job as always
+upcycleholic nice idea! Perhaps in future! Thank you very much!

Thank you! I agree that metal would work better to metal! I just needed a quick and dirty solution for a specific project!

GREAT' & BEAUTIFUL
Thank you
Nice!! it's great! I am guessing you will use it in an upcoming build!: D
+Cactus! workshop thanks, I need it for the second part of the beehive build! I thought it was worth a more detailed video on it's own!
Nice one!
+Lazy watchsmith thank you
Great idea! nice video
thank you very much
Maybe add some knobs to allow you to loosen the clamp without having to undo the screws? great work nonetheless
+Tom112 yes, that would be a cool upgrade. Thanks for watching
Handy Idea.
Bravo c'est fantastique
