No Lathe. no TIG welder, no Plasma cutter. Yes! Love it! An actual DIY project for DIYers. Get the home center to cut the angle iron and steel bar and all you need is a tap set, a screwdriver, an Allen key and a couple of C-clamps.
I don’t understand the downvotes. Free video tutorial with a link to dimensions!? Thank you! This is a great idea for someone who wants to be able to bend some sheet metal and isn’t ready to invest in buying an expensive sheet metal brake. No, it’s not going to hold up for someone who bends heavier gauge metal on a regular basis, but certainly 20 gauge, maybe even 18? would be reasonable for the hobbyist’s purposes.
Simple and effective ! GREAT MINDS THINK ALIKE . I also used " L " angle for TOP stop so I wouldn't pass 90° angle , and I etch in my own measurements with longer increments to line up my sheets straight to bend. Also BIG wing nuts easier for top lock down bar. GREAT job !
Getting a bend to the angle you want usually requires going past that angle, so the metal can relax where you want it. Only bending to 90 degrees won't get you a corner that wants to be square. This design also didn't get particularly tight corners, because the hinges were above the bending target, instead of level with the material's edge. (The reason most of these designs notch the bars to bring the hinge down.)
best and easiest build seen so far. tip: You can use an angle iron top bar instead of flat bar - get perfect 45 degree bends - also turn same angle iron top bar on side ( with extra holes on side ) and then get perfect 90 degree bends with same top bar.
Like that you're not adding music to your more recent tutorials. The videos without music are much more enjoyable and easier to concentrate on. As a machinist, I think we can appreciate the natural sounds we get from the tools we use. Cheers
Hey Paul. Yeah, I could turn down the volume, but as I stated in my comment, I appreciate the natural sounds we get from our tools when using them. They make a unique music all their own. Cheers
You could also add a protractor easily to see exactly what degree your bend is at. You could just cut a slit in the piece of angle iron that has the handle, and then weld a protractor say as far to the left that you can on the far piece of angle iron. That way you can measure your bends
Now that's a simple break build for small metal will work perfect for a professional I'm sure if their really a professional they'll have a quality one. I intend to make this as I only need for smaller metal. Also I'll probably put the handles straight down instead of out and maybe a few other ideas but definitely gave me a simple idea I didn't have before
Gonna do this! Doesn't involve welding but I think I'll get a friend to weld hinges and handles in place to save a lot of time/effort. Gonna build a 6 ft brake. Also gonna weld crossbar connecting 2 handles for better leverage. Great video and thanks!!!
Mistry: I watched you video and built a 36” break today- it’s very straightforward, simple and very usable. Thank you for posting your video/ I subscribed!!
Dear sir:This's absolutely useful and frugal tecnique i have just seen first time.Wishing you have more methods of creating like this because this really helps those who do not have sufficient investments to afford the costly equippments.
I’ve looked at 20 videos, this was the cheapest and most simple method, wish I saw this first before cutting my steel angle. Whoever is reading this, please do LOTS of research first! And come up with a concrete plan! Then revise it 5 times! And you will have a plan better than most.
I love how simple this build is, with no welding. I do have one question though. Most of the videos I've watched on how to build a sheet metal brake require cutting a notch in the angle iron for the hinges. How are you able to get away from doing that and how does it not affect the way the sheet metal is bent? I'd love to hear from you. Have a great day! 😎
The reason everyone notches is to get the coners of the angle steel to the center point of the hinge, doing so creates a tighter sharper bend vs the one shown here his Bends have a radius to it (soft bend)
