I'll be honest I was late to the IU hype train but I'm so happy I started getting more into her. She's an absolutely brilliant artist and DROP DEAD GORGEOUS.
OMG, me too. I just started to love her this year because of her incredible acting performance in My Mister and now, i totally fell in love with her music.

Because of the pressure everyone puts on her to be a 'good role model'. Frankly, looks are important in Korea. Some discriminates people who are not the ideal beauty, especially celebrities. Stop saying that they should be good role models, they know that. You are only adding pressure to their own destruction. She was not that thin back then but due to everyone saying those kind of stuff, she wanted to be thin. She said, it's not easy to get over her condition and it does not disappear overnight but she's trying to get better and she is much better.

The best thing about being part of IU's Fandom: most of us are adults, with jobs, studying and doing our own things, and besides that we watch Lee Jieun grow as a person, and as an artist.
I think in general most kpop's fandoms are too tiring to be part of ... and im saying this because I follow many uaenas on twitter and ive never seen them fighting over something.... it's awful to deal with harshness and bad things in both your life and social media, honestly it feels so good to shift to that calm and peaceful world.

agree... UAENA is the best fandom and I am proud to be one of them. From the first know about KPOP, it start with IU (Dream High), before Dream High I don't really like KPOP songs, cause almost of the songs are too noisy for me but after I know IU with her song someday, I fall in love with her voice. And keep listening her songs because her song and her voice is healing me. I become her fans until now. IU is the one and only KPOP Musician that I love and she always make me love her more

When koreans talk about idols, they normally talk about they appearance, but when it's about IU people see her not as an 'idol' anymore, but a true artist.
I'm so glad you did this because IU is really underrated internationally. I think IU's popularity stems from her genuine behaviour and her songs reflect that. She has composed, written and produced many of her own songs. And she was loved when she appeared on Hyori BnB where she showed her character. The general public is basically her fandom and she is everywhere in Korea being the face of Chamisul etc.
I am so happy that IU is being appreciated because she deserves EVERYTHING. (especially after her witch hunts in 2015)

Yes I can attest to this statement I’ve been a fan of IU for a long time and I’m from a country where Kpop is just taking off and nobody ever mentions her, I went to a Kpop Fan meet up where you obviously meet other fandoms of said Kpop groups and I swear on my life nearly nobody Knew IU until I said she did a song with GD and someone was legit like “Ohhhh that’s who Kookie likes” and after that all of a sudden everyone knows her as Kookies crush wish is so sad they couldn’t even name one of her songs😔
I never said she wasn't known but she is underrated. I think everyone now knows her as Jungkook's crush or someone GD collaborated with. However, no one really knows how much influence she has in Korea as well as her songs or whatever. IU literally made so many trends in Korea and has so so much critical acclaim for a singer when only boy/girl groups were popular as well as an actress. So yeah.. still underrated internationally.

BangtanSugaKookies I think that’s what makes her so great. She’d be a person you’d admire, respect, and look up to even if she wasn’t an artist. For a fairly stressful and rigid culture like Korea, she exemplifies a very healthy and mature outlook on life and I think a lot of people relate to that even if it isn’t the first thing they think of about her

I have been an Uaena since 2009 with her song Marshmallow. It's true that most of IU fans are adults now so it's very peaceful to be a Uaena. I'm always proud of her and admire her hardworking to get over the difficulties and achieve her dream.

People listen to her songs when they want to unwind, when they need cheering up, etc. instead of simply streaming it for views. It's the same with groups like Bolbbalgan4. It's not quite a fandom, it's more like a widespread fanbase that really enjoys the artist for their music and message.

Tbh, i wasnt a fan of her before, but now im obsessed w her haha recently her music is rlly good and i can see she tried and worked very hard.
IU barely made any promotions of her Love Poem EP and her latest single Eight but still managed to swoop the chart adding to her list of PAK songs. Eight had almost 200k unique listeners on melon and was number 1 in 59 countries on itune. Her song through the night that's released in 2017 is still thriving on the top 100 songs very consistently. She's not as strong in physical album sales but she got her spot as the digital monster.

IU owns the word LEGEND. I feel so much pity for those people who think of her as someone's shit or just that girl in SoKor when these random Koreans that they interviewed knew alot-her B-side tracks, the meanings of her song (when they mentioned Bbibbi and explained the story about it), when they said that she's an Artist who create art from scratch, she's adored by everyne regardless of gender-I mean she's the LEGEND, legend is even an understatement.

I freaking LOVE IU and I think she is so very talented and her vocals are like *chef's kiss* following her cool, catchy lyrics that make you wanna jam along even if you don't understand Korean. Also her mvs are so creative and just... Wow, plus she also has like a whole IU universe. It's really cool when idols do that with their mvs, so fans can decipher them and really think, because while a lot of idols DO have a message/storyline behind there mvs, there are few with like, REALLY complicated ones which make you think so hard, and IU is one of them.
Basically it feels like we watched her grow up/ we grew up with her. Her music speaks to us like a long-time friend. Part of us wants to be like her as well. Not in the way that people look up to sparkly idols but instead, a very cool friend. Because most people her age are at the stage where it's hard for us to create what we want and express ourselves the way we want because we haven't proven ourselves like her. But at the same time she manages herself so well in the precarious position she is at the top of a pyramid.

This video is making me more inlove with her. I have being support her since her Nagging era. It was around 2010 i guessed. When she was in a program called heroes, she attracted my attention the most with her personality. I tried to search more about her since then and listened to her song and i was deeply inlove with her voice. She really have good personality and voice. That's why i stan her.

When I fell for BTS I didn't think I would fall for another artist after looking around more, but then I stumbled on IU and fell in love with her vocals
IU has always been a solid performer, singer and artist. I feel that she started working on her music the way she wanted since the album Modern Times. I think its still one of my fav albums out of the ones she released. She doesn't cater to the popular or trendy songs, but instead tries on various styles and sounds.

Though I'm kinda young, I still love IU and all her songs. Her personality is also so nice and genuine. I'm in love with her latest song, BBIBBI because of the catchy melody and the lyrics. There really isn't anything bad about IU. I do wish that she got more international attention though. Also the fandom is on the older side and mature, so silly fanwars are never a problem. I'm proud to be a UAENA. Do I have to mention that IU is amazingly beautiful? It goes without saying.
IU is just amazing. I listen to her casually before but I became a full-fledged fan once she really started to get involved in her own music.

You know how everyone has this place where their souls feel calm, eternal peace kind of a thing .. I think IU is the personification of that.
To be honest, IU is the artist who was received love from everyone (adults, the old, the youngsters, or the kids) by virtue of her distinctive musical style and her manners. Besides, she is hardworking, enthusiastic, sincere, respects for seniors and juniors (we can see it by watching TV show with IU's participation), so she always makes the good impression for colleagues and her staffs although she is not familiar with them before. Moreover, IU's songs are capable of healing wounds for people listening to her songs (because of her lyrics, her soft and sweet voice and her true feeling when she wrote these songs). IU is my goddess in my heart.
As someone who has supported and watched IU grow since 2010, I am super happy to see so many positive comments about her! She has grown into such a wonderful person and I'm sure everyone can see it as well! As you learn more about her and grow /with/ her, you learn to appreciate and love everything she does, whether it be just listening to her sincere songs or through her selfless actions like donating her money to countless charities/alma mater. One of my most favorite things about IU is that she truly does have her own color and always expresses her most sincere feelings. One of the many things I loved about this video is that the people interviewed watched IU grow, acknowledge and respect her as a true artist that produces her own music, writes her own lyrics, and sings from her sincere feelings.
She's definitely an artist that I will continue to love and support, and that I will grow old with her and her music. She's someone who will continue to make music even when she is old.
Is IU underrated internationally? Definitely yes. But I personally believe it's fine this way, because that would mean more traveling and etc if she were to become even bigger-- I know she's quite tired enough. She's already the queen of Asia, I think that's already good enough ;-) Many people internationally love all the trendy k-pop that other idol groups bring, so I feel like the chance for her to shine might have a low chance. Not saying she /doesn't have/ those extra pop songs, but people may not understand and appreciate what she sends out.
Who do I want her to collab with in the future? There's so many good artists out there but to name a few: Paul Kim, EXO's Chen, Dean, BTS' Jungkook (although fans might get a little too crazy), and Sam Kim. Their voices are so soothing and I feel like they would sync perfectly with IU's, especially Paul & Sam Kim.

The guy who liked Knee is the kind of fan I want to be. A lot of time people look at IU as a pretty girl who sings but it's so important to notice how great she is at perfecting her craft. Her messages are powerful and meaningful. I really respect that guy for emphazing that.

Personally I think the Marín reason why she is so loved is because her beautiful voice, she conveys so much emotions that even if you don't understand the lyrics you can feel it, also her voice color is really sweet and pure .... Adding her talent as a composer ,song writter and producer. She Is one of a kind

I really love IU the moment I saw her (I forgot what year it was). I just feel something special about her. There's that sincerity in her personality, and her songs' lyrics really hit hard. I love IU!
I remember in the past when i first started getting into kpop 6 years ago, IU was so iconic with her high notes in Good Day and her witty yet polite personality. Now, she's become more and more honest & open when creating her songs. She's always so versatile, and she really follows the flow of the society really well. I'm not talking about what's trendy etc., but more towards what people expect from artists. In the past, variety shows were so big and she fit in so well in Star King, Happy Together, etc. Now, audiences expect honest and relatable lyrics, and she's serving us all of those too. I'm so glad she's getting the attention that she deserves

IU is my favorite Korean female artist:)
IU grew up along with her fans. She got to understand herself and her fans as her carrier goes up, but she remain low, I think that was one of the reason why everyone love her.

There's something in IU that makes a non-believer become believer. Her voice is just soothing and calming. Great aura. I literally can't understand her language (without google) but my heart felt her existence.
