the tutorial was so detailed and most of the features if not all here are still on photoshop so it was pretty easy to follow

CS5 and down ...click on the option arrow that is next to contour list, go to bottom of the list and click "contours" then click "append". Now you will see both of those "missing" contours :D

Marty, this was a great tutorial and I came back to follow it again, but now in PS 2021 the filters are different. there is no more triple ring or shallow valley. I tried some others but not getting as great a result as you show. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you for all you post!!! Judith

Hi there, you have to click the little rench tool on the right hand side while in contours. Then scroll to the bottom and click contours - a pop up should pop up but just click "OK". This will allow you to have every other contour you are looking for :)

OK...following along ...however where are you getting all the contour setting from ?? im on Ps2017 and I only see the 12 contours ...did you download the others ...and if so where ?? thank you ...M
The contour settings are built into PS. Nothing to download. Click the gear icon to open the contour list and click "Small List".

I didn't have the triple ring either, nor the shallow slope valley. It turns out when you install Photoshop not all contours are loaded, you have to load them manually. Here is a very easy guide: members.tripod.com/acceleration_man/contourtut.html

The dimensions in the effects only work if you are working with a font of 264 px like you. I had more letters so, I used a smaller font, all those settings made it warp. you should at least mention this in the video so the people don't feel like they are doing something wrong

Marty ... Really well detailed and so easy to follow. 1 Question, I am trying this effect out on a much smaller scale. Of course everthing blows apart when its scaled down so how do i apply the contours etc and get the same effext in a smaller font size?
Many of the Layer Style setting amounts (i.e.: Bevel/Emboss) would have to be reduced in lieu of your smaller font size. Just play with the amounts until the results look similar to mine.

Great video sir. I am however, missing the contours you speak of here. I can't figure out how to add more.
After you check "Contours" on the left (under "Bevel & Emboss"), click the down arrow next to the contour thumbnail. Click the gear icon and click "Reset Contours" and then "Small List".
Thank you for the quick reply. I was missing the two contours that you mentioned in your tutorial but I was able to get access to them simply buy selecting the settings gear icon, selecting Contours from the drop-down list and then append. Thank you and keep up the great lessons!

No. Smart Objects were first introduced in CS2.

Sir i m using CS6 but I can't find ring triple
So how can I download it ?
Every version has it. After you open the Contours list, click the small gear icon on the right. Click "Reset Contours" and then, "Small List". You'll see "Ring Triple".
I think I have Ps 2019 or 2021 or 2022 but It won't work. I tried to select an adjustment layer, set angle to 0 and select the spectrum preset and when I pressed ok, it said no mask selected and the mask layer is just a gray gradient :( what do I do??

Marty, when I click on text to add it always displays the LOREM etc etc text, how can I stop this from appearing ??
Go to Edit > Preferences > Type... and uncheck "Fill new type layers with placeholder text".

Hi Marty, I'm using PS 2021. When I get to the point of applying a black/white gradient to fade out the reflection, nothing happens. I guess a version issue? Any ideas please?
It could be due to one of many reasons. i.e.: the blend mode is incorrect; the layer order is wrong, the gradient is inverted, etc.
@@BLTV_Photoshop Thanks for coming back Marty. As far as I can tell, the settings are correct, the one thing I get is an error: "Could not use the gradient tool because the smart object is not directly editable."

99% of the time, the solution is simple, however, without inspecting your PSD file, it would be difficult to determine the reason. Sorry.
