You're right. It sounds like a song from Collective Soul that could've been recorded sometime around '96-'98. It would've fit nicely on the Discipled Breakdown album. However, this unreleased track could've been written in 1994 when Roland was prolific and released songs based on whether or not they felt contemporary.
Searching in my files I found another song than might not be in youtube, Ed wrote it for their son, Beautiful as can Be, i think it's between 2001-2003.
