Introducing OpenIPC Radxa Zero 3w - World’s Smallest and Lightest 120fps VRX Video Tutorial Part 2
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 жов 2024
- This video is the second part of the OpenIPC Radxa tutorial series that explains how to assemble the parts and create the OpenIPC VRX with the new SBC from Radxa, Radxa Zero 3w.
On the second part of the video we are doing a
non-scientific glass-to-glass latency test and then we compare it with the NVR hi3536 VRX that we were previously using.
Finally, the third part of the video is the maiden flight with the FPVue decoder which is a port of VDEC for Radxa Zero 3w and Orange Pi 5. I’m sure everyone would want to see that flight because it’s the first time anyone flew with FPVue. Unfortunately it is very buggy and not recommended for flying.
There’s a new “OpenIPC OSD” that will support full Betaflight/INAV OSD!
Stay tuned coming soon!

Thanks!
Thank you so much for the Super Thank you!😊🙏
I have bought 4 radxa's now, I love these!!
The OpenIPC FPVue will blow your mind!
I promise that!🤩🤯🎉
Well done and thanks to the dev team- this is still an open source project at too early a stage for me to benefit yet - but kudos to the team for the time and effort they give for free developing a system that may well outstrip commercial offerings in years to come
Every month we see more improvements coming from new developers that are joining our team. We have zero costs for maintaining our project so nothing can stop us. We do this for free as a hobby, just like the fpv hobby started years ago. It’s free and available for everyone. Cheers mate!😊🍻
As much as I love my Walksnail stuff, I'd ditch it in a hurry for an open source offering that's reliable and comparable. This looks promising, wishing you guys the best of luck.
Cheers mate!😊🍻
I hope openipc will be like elrs with crazy performance and super low cost ( wich you already have)
Cheers mate!😊🍻
nice project and progress,
i'm coming back from analog fpv and DJI digital fpv.
i'll start an OpenIPC build
what is the expected range of this setup ? and how does it behave when the signal/frames drops. DJI FPV will reduce the quality in the center area "focus mode"
thx for sharing the builds and your experience
The Radxa looked much better, good thing to look forward to well done!
Cheers mate!😊🍻
Just got back to this interesting project mate.
By the way, is the 32G emmc version supported?
That is awesome! Congrats for the achievement!
One question, what usual latency I could get using the Radxa Zero 3W connected to a FPV goggles that runs at 60fps?
Will the range be comparable to a DJI/Walksnail system?
Please stop comparing our FPV system with DJI or WS as this is not our intention. We do not want to replace any system. We are simply offering our fpv system as an open source solution so that people who dislike closed source products will have an option to use. If you feel like the WS or DJI is good for you then please continue using them, we can’t force anyone to change their fpv system. Cheers mate!😊🍻
@@mariofpv Hey Mario, please friend, check my question again. I don't want to try OpenIPC because it would be better, but I wanted just to understand what to expect with regards to latency and range at this point. And I do support an open project and I wish OpenIPC, you and all the developers to succeed, to be a really good alternative to the other closed systems. Thanks
The maximum range is 106km. I have published a small video proof on the Telegram channel. The latency is 21-35ms. Other members have posted proofs on Telegram channel. Please join our community to see them.😊🤝
Hey Mario nice Work. My radxa is already ordered im very good in CAD Design i cant wait to Design a case for the vrx components my Plan to design it that i can quick change with the walksnail vrx. The nvr already is on the Bench but i wait for my Enthusiast kit 😉 hopefully it arrives the next days...
I hope you share your work with the community. Sharing is caring!😇
Cheers mate!😊🍻
@@mariofpv of course thingiverse Link will follow the next days Cheers Mate thanks for your effort
Still waiting on shipping confirmation and tracking that was suppose to happen the second half of march 😮💨
@@CosmicSlopVibrations i have received Tracking number and dispatch Note last week 😁🤙 so Just a bit of time.
@mariofpv i need your Help ... I want to connect the rtl8812au to gpio header or can i only use the USB c hub Like you do in the Video? My vtx arrives today 🎉
Great job!
Cheers mate!😊🍻
Excellent Mario !
Thank you for the support my friend!😊🙏
Coming along fast!
Cheers mate!😊🍻
Mario, if Radxa is cold enough, May be split two parts of ground station? Put wifi adapter in standart bay of goggles receiver and have small Box only for Radxa Zero. There is small fan (20x20). Perhaps it will be enough for rtl8812 cooling? Also There is small mini hdmi connector with short ribbon Cable - Just 5 cm
There are rumours that there will be goggles with everything inside. They will have 120Hz display panels! Stay tuned for the updates. Cheers mate!😊🍻
is it possible to get the openIPC firmware for the raspberry pi 4 in the future?
You can use Raspberry Pi 4 for RubyFPV ground station with an OpenIPC camera. Cheers mate!😊🍻
@@mariofpv How can i do that? any doccumentation or video guide available?
How do you power the radxa unit? It looks like you split the 2s output from your Liion battery pack to power both the goggles and Vrx with the same voltage?
I use a 5V 3A BEC. Cheers mate!😊🍻
Hi, could you please send a link where to buy this Big Rookie RTL 8812au module? It's almost impossible to find it in internet. Thanks Rob
It is no longer supported by the WFB-ng. It has poor hardware quality and it will probably be fried in a month. Search for alternatives. Cheers mate!😊🍻
Fantastic ❤
Cheers mate!😊🍻
Apart from booting speed are there any other advantages by using the Radxa Zero 3W with the onboard emmc memory? Thanks!
amazing !
Another to the list
Thank you for the support! You are in this video!😊🙏
This looks truly amazing now! 🤭 Do you think there will be interference if I use 2.4GHz for video link and at the same time 2.4Ghz for ELRS radio link?
No interferences if you have a gap between the two frequencies more than 200Hz. We have tested it last year. Cheers mate!😊🍻
Hello, where can I find the files for this antennas? or how are they called? Thank you nice work
I don’t know. They send me those antennas from China for testing. Cheers mate!😊🍻
Who is Big Rookie Design? That RTU8812AU board looks similar to what comes inside and Alfa product that uses the same chip from realtek.
It’s a Chinese company. Cheers mate!😊🍻
In order to achieve some "enterprise" level I believe you need to rework binding process to avoid manual copying drone.key file between devices, it's inconvenient and expects some extra knowledge from every user. Then it'd be great to simplify firmware uploading process as well, to make this device not just for enthusiasts but for "dummies". Then it can become "elrs"-wide.
Is it really so hard to press 3 buttons in the OpenIPC Configurator? I mean if someone can’t even do that then I guess they wouldn’t even know how to fly a drone. Cheers mate!😊🍻
@@mariofpv Seems like I missed how to use "OpenIPC Configurator" for this, last time I copied it via scp. It didn't look like ELRS binding. But good to know there is the way. :)
Wonderful, Can you put betaflight osd ?
That would require MSP support which is not that simple to do. Maybe in the future we will find a way to add it. Thank you for the support!😊🙏
Which RADXA ZERO is better to use for a ground station? How much memory, availability of EMMC or Flash?
Radxa Zero 3w 1GB no eMMC. Cheers mate!😊🍻
Congrats again for this amazing work.
What goggles do you suggest to use?
There are rumours that there will be 120Hz goggles from an FPV company. I can’t share more information. Currently there is no goggles that can do 120Hz from the HDMI in port. Cheers mate!😊🍻
@@mariofpv hi ! I have a second hand headset with HDMI input. Is there a min spec that could make this headset not compatible please ? (i don't need the mega quality)
@marielizysurourcq any goggles with HDMI in port will work.
@@mariofpvThe low-cost HD video transmission is being solved by your amazing work. Now, we also need some low-cost options for goggles.
@mariofpv so HDZero goggles would work?
Hopefully this will overtake dji. I can’t wait for the day of low cost low latency hd fpv. Imagine a 4k feed directly to the goggles. I know we’re far off from 4k, but 1080p should be possible.
There’s no competition between us and DJI. They are multimillionaires selling closed source very expensive products and we are an open source free to use project. We have pretty good quality on our video feed but not as good as DJI. However, we have the lowest possible prices for a complete HD digital fpv system and that’s where DJI is probably inferior to our project. Cheers mate!😊🍻
Is there a chance to integrate both controller and vrx into this unit instead of relying on other transmitter with different antennas and frequencies?
It’s already done. OpenIPC supports full bidirectional MAVLINK telemetry. Cheers mate!😊🍻
Is the radxa zero 3w HDMI port capable of streaming 120fps? The NVR hi3536dv10 HDMI port is only capable of 60fps.
Yes. The Radxa can output 120fps from the HDMI port. Cheers mate!😊🍻
so will the cheapest radxa work? or how much memory does it require?
Yes, the 1GB is enough. The eMMC option boots faster. Cheers mate!😊🍻
amazing
Cheers mate!😊🍻
If I watch the timer frame by frame the video feed on the monitor looks like i overlays multiple frames at once. Is it to dark and the framerate dropped massively?
This is an Alpha version full of bugs and glitches. We will have many updates in the future. So stay tuned. Cheers mate!😊🍻
you should post in 4k on yt, that would give us a much more realistic image of the system, even 1080 p
The video I encoded was in 4K. I don’t know why YT didn’t use it. Blame YT, lol. Cheers mate!😊🍻
@@mariofpv I don't blame anyone mate, it was just a suggestion. But anyway, thanks for the clearification..
Sick.
Cheers mate!😊🍻
will have orange pi 2w or banana pi version ??? abraço do Brasil.
I don’t know. Maybe in the future but don’t expect as good performance on those SBC. Cheers mate!😊🍻
Is it possible to use the Laptop as a screen?
Yes it’s possible. You can even use the USB stick version to run it directly from the USB stick! Search for my YT video. Cheers mate!😊🍻
intrarefresh and gop size need edit video mosaic problem ( strong-intra-smoothing=1,intra-refresh=0,aq-strength=1.5 ) H265
We need more simple hardware for increase popularity
Are you still using the same case?
Yes but I’m planning to print the new one. What are you using?😊
I hope someone could make the software dump with premade network password and everything so you could just dump in preconfig'd files on both TX and RX. The more plugn play from the getgo the faster adoption rate we'll see.
It’s already done! Look at the video description. Cheers mate!😊🍻
我在中国成都,我如何才能买到你的产品,I live in China, how to get your product! Amazon or Alibaba? I very very want to get this product!
They are sold out. You can’t buy them for now but we will announce soon when the new batch is available. Cheers mate!😊🍻
So which VRX is recommended now?
Radxa Zero 3w will give you 1080p 120fps decoding which is the maximum an OpenIPC AIO can offer. If you have 60Hz monitor/goggles the NVR is enough. In conclusion Radxa is a better option. Thank you for your support. 😊🙏
@@mariofpv I have the Radxa board but what about the WiFi board?
I an just use ay RTL8812au Wifi USB and connect to Radxa?
Before you do anything else on Radxa you need to setup the internal WiFi network. There’s a guide on how to do that in the SBC groundstation GitHub. Then you will be able to use the configurator to setup your Radxa. Let me know if you get stuck so I can assist you.
@@mariofpv I am up and running
Skyzone O4X pro is advertised with 720p at 100 Hz via hdmi. Can anybody verify that this works with a radxa zero 3w?
They should work but I don’t know what would the latency be. Cheers mate!😊🍻
I’m selling off my Walksnail gear. Looks like this is more suitable for me and LR
It’s also much cheaper and with unlimited potentials since it’s open source. Cheers mate!😊🍻
I'm sorry, this project is off the rails. 🎉
Thank you for the support. You are in the video!😊🙏
@@mariofpvoh no, I hope no one will stop me for my authograph! 😂
This is using 2.4Ghz right?
It can use both 5.8GHz or 2.4GHz. It’s a setting in the system. Cheers mate!😊🍻
@@mariofpvThat sounds very cool, 2.4Ghz should allow for way better signal penetration than regular 5.8ghz fpv :D
@5x25_fpv the quad has 1200mW. It can penetrate 2 houses. I have already tested it!😁🤝
