    I think she is pointing at something extremely important here. Even in a country like Sweden, that is perceived as quite progressive, people still have to deal with a lot of discrimination and hatred. Her analysis of privileged white male middle class perception of this show is spot on. For one, we are not as far as we think when it comes to true equality of all genders and secual orientation, and second, these are rights that need to be constantly defended. There are also forces in Europe that wish people like this did exist. The fight is not over and it's important that shows like this exist and for many more to come out.

      It's so true... We know from studies that there are large numbers of people still closeted, possibly even from themselves and their own awareness yet due to ongoing stigma and the realities of discrimination. It's so important to continue being honest about this 🙏

    Thank heavens Lisa that we did not get a Scandinavian ending. Especially in this time, every day life is tragic enough for many people, so spreading hope & warmth is so much more impactful. Look at the reaction, everyone was blown away and speak about the ending to be PERFECT. Tack så mycket for swimming against the stream without being unrealistic. Thank God for Young Royals!!!!!!!!!!! 💜💜

    *OK, Lisa, write another story.* This time, call it *_Hillerska, Redux_* [or something along that line] or maybe, *_Wilhelm & Simon, Part II._* and show it opening again, with most of the same students and of course, Wille and Simon and yeah, include Henry and Walter. Show how gay couples are now respected but yeah, have some drama as well.

    Although the story line and of course the acting of all involved was extraordinary, regrettable the ending was a win for August and the Queen and by extension a subtle nod to a homophobic win! Finally Simon succeeded in manipulating the abdication! Why would he not help his love become a successful monarch and help change the world? Too neat a conclusion! Wilhelm and Simon driving off into the sunset in a old battered car a la Thelma and Louis, hopefully there is no cliff at the end of their road! This of course is My opinion. I believe it was not the positive ending needed for young gays: gay love, in partnership, wins the crown over all adversities! None the less the actors were extraordinary. Final episode, not so much!

    • @feministcrowntalks
      @feministcrowntalks 4 місяці тому +18

      Absolutely agree, the acting was phenomenal, they all grew so much in their skill set and it was amazing to watch them evolve!
      I do think about the ending in a more nuanced way. August realised that being king is not just all fun and all, actually quite tragic. The queen would have rather had their son the king than August but she had to give in for him to be free and happy.
      I do not agree that Simon was manipulating Wille in any way, to me it felt more of a "if you love someone, set him free" kind of way. Which thankfully did work out.
      For the last argument, I beg to differ: they do not drive off into the sunset, they take off after the graduation party in the middle of the day, probably getting ice cream in Bjärstad. That's all that is insjuated here. Felice is hinting at spending the summer on a road trip or maybe just day trips around Bjärstad. I think we are so influenced by American movies to perceive it that way. But this is a very European ending and therefore not corny but very realistic for the end of school term/beginning of summer holidays.

      @@feministcrowntalks Hmmm! Interesting, I must have watched another version. Thanks for your observation. When will stories depicting gays stop coming second? For 2.5 seasons, I was hopeful this one wouldn’t.

      @@feministcrowntalks OK... To me the August redemption act was too bleak. August did not show much of that realisation, only a very, very little hint, and that's not enough for me. Maybe I have too hard to forgive, but I can not forgive/forget what he did to Wille and Simon, outing them is in my opinion NOT excused by his initiation, (getting a boner during a gay porn movie... and ridiculed for that...) as I feel Lisa meant. And the queen, she doesn't say Wille can chose what he likes himself, she says "let him go" to the security... to me that shows more of the attitude "We don't care about his wellbeing anymore". And giving the symbolic frog (crowning August) is to me a hatecrime against her queer son... she has already replaced him, before he said so in the car... But... "Wilmon endgame", yes!, wonderful!. Wille refuses the crown, yes! great!, he never wanted that anyway, and he has said so for three seasons... but the monarchy still in place and undisturbed? The queen selecting a straight criminal for crownprince? No... that doesn't sit well for me. That shows the queen thinks any criminal act is forgettable, but not being gay/queer. Then you don't fit ti be king and you will be replaced. But that's just my opinion. (ok Wille didn't want it, but giving it straight to (straight)August is... not ok.) I think the show should at least have let August show more (fear/disgust/desperation...) when he realised Wille left all the royal duties to him... now he barely show any reaction... (yes, more angst please...😁) But as I said, maybe I'm too unforgiving... (?)

      I totally agree. When they were at that window [1st kiss!] and Simon hinted/asked Wilhelm to help the LGBTA community, I was hoping it would have gone in that direction and Wilhelm would still ascend to the Crown.
      Point of reference: Thailand's Rama V was a gay King.
