Crazy to think that West Germany had a higher GDP in 1980 than the USSR. A country literally torn in half by east and west and still prospering.
And now we want communism... smh
1st. The country was not in half. It's more like 2/3 are west Germany. There was no 50/50 split in economy, factories and population.
2nd. The ussr and it's people suffered more in wwII than Germany and especially west Germany. In belorussia alone 600 villages were burned with the inhabitants still inside. This was going on all over the ussr. The German troops burned villages and leveled towns. Massacered people or kidnapped them for slave labor in their factories. For the past 30 years before WWII the ussr suffered famines, orphant crisis of 7 million children were without parents after the civil war. 80% of railroads gone with factories and mines reduced to fractions of what they were again, after the civil war.
@@andreyzelinskiy3604 Hmmm seems like the USSR had more problems than totalitarianism then, considering how horrendous the October revolution and fact that their GDP was going backwards decades after WW2 was
Yea since US supported Germany a lot financially right after the WW2.
Oh yeah. Lots of countries were flying stuff in and out of West berlin. It was one the richest cities in the world and other side of wall was poorest city in world. That was the plan. Make west Germany super rich so the liberal communists would be jealous and finally give in and want to join in on the wealth. They thought socialism was better but they got tired of being hungry and watching the West Germans get richer from capitalism. Now the morons want to try socialism again.

Lmao, you haven't considered their population growth rate and gdp per capita. Trust me, they're not doing so well.

Nigeria is on the decline and South Africa(my country) is set to take over the position of wealthiest African nation by 2020 or so. Nigeria population is 190 million and South Africa's is 57 million, making us significantly more wealthy - definitely not my patriotic bias coming through.
Indonesia on the, other hand, may not be wealthy at the moment, but are growing at a robust(healthy) rate, and I must give credit where it's due. Not to mention that their GDP per capita PPP is at $11000, making them a relatively well developed 3rd world nation - I'd even argue that they've crossed the boundary into 1st world.
*2008*

That would just be a bunch of European countries, maybe with Us, Japan, or Canada
hehexd Would help show How horribly the ”socialism” has hindered countries like Sweden, Norway and Finland. And yes, being sarcastic here.
Qatar and singapore
SPQSpartacus
Well those countries don’t even use socialism, Bernie needs to stop saying they are.
It's Qatar and Saudi Arabia cos they have stupid amounts of oil and all the money is owned by a very small number of people who benefit from the fact that there is literal slavery. Everyone in those countries is a victim of their own nation's oil reserves. No rights, no freedom, stupid laws, death penalty for normal things and a lot of corruption.
The interesting thing is that to get an actual comparison of bar size, you have to cover the lefthand side of the screen from zero to the left edge with your hand. It makes the size difference way more dramatic. According to what this data shows (which I am taking at the channel’s word) Japan is only about 1/4 the size of the US and China is only about 1/2.
That's not how comparison works
How is that an actual comparison?
hammer s it actually works cause the chart starts at near the middle, and it looks like Australia is about half USA when is actually like 1/15 of it.
The other comparison to make is a country to itself. The USSR from its 1984 peak had lost HALF ITS WEALTH by 1994, and was at less than 1/3 of that peak from 1998-2002. It's impossible for the vast majority of the world's citizens to imagine living in a country which became literally HALF as wealthy as it was before. Comparatively, the "recessions" we experience in the west pale.
Seriously how is this hard to understand. The 0 starts at about 1/3 of the screen meaning that the bar size isn’t exactly proportional to its GDP.
How do you do this kind of videos ? 🤔
USA:Reads Book Everone else: I WILL FIGHT YOU TO PASS YOU AHHHH

im impressed by Japan. Their size of the population and they were catching up to the US before dropping
KyleTVProductions their population actually used to be higher than it is now, and most of those people are over 60
They catch up quickly with currency inflation, not actual growth. It makes Japan look better on paper but eventually hurt their power on the global market, many Japanese companies fell during the 1990-2000 era due to this.
Japan is in a economic crisis, they also received massive funding from the us, and benefited from the korean war. Not being biased or anything, im more impressed by how well korea did in those times, we received nothing, we had no resources, in the 80s we were about as poor as a typical 3rd world country. And then imf fucking raped us even more. If korea unifies. Well probably be up there near the top (reported that there's more resources than china in nk alone, because its never been exploited)

Natural Resources and technology - that's the name of the game. Europe is rather abundantly blessed with both, same thing for the US.
Mexico is one of the countries with more natural resources in the world but we are still a poor country. Just look our GDP in the video, mexico is doing good with his GDP but still the population has no money and the salary is shit. It's not only the territory but also the people.
What you're saying it's better in those regards than Africa and South America
@@bobdole4916 You don't get blessed with technology. Gotta invent that shit.
@@joshbutler5769 It's an expression, dude. Keep it in your pants.
Very interesting. If data is available, would love to see same thing but beginning post WWII (starting in 1946 or even 1950).
That soundtrack though
1995 Japan : imma beat USA, BANZAI!!!
1996 : oh hi
1997 Asian Financial Crisis : good to see you there
The Lost Decade : can I move into your house?
Yet, still 3rd.. unlike most of the counties in the last 3 decades who couldn't keep their economy level.
Russia‘s GDP is actually from europe and not from asia because more than 90% of the GDP is made in europe
Julian_ Unlustig I don’t think it matters where is made but what continent the country is from I don’t tho about Russia
He, du Almann. Des ist nach Kontinentalmasse geordnet und der größere Teil Russlands ist halt in Asien
@@josueperez4333 Russia is from Europe though they own more land in Asia than Europe.
Josue Perez Russia is on two continents so you actually have to take the continent which makes more money ,theres also the same problem with turkey

Please Make one that also show per capita increase below the GDP increase horizontal bars?
This will show the true state of prosperity over the years for the top 20.
Thanks
Italy somehow keeps kicking asses! BRAVO!!!
Nevertheless our burocrats, our high taxes, our politicians... sometimes I don't know how Italy goes on🤔🤔🤔
Thank you buddy anyway

Is that West Germany alone surpassing the GDP of the whole Soviet Union?
Really highlights the failure of Soviet policies, that half of Germany was richer then the largest nation on Earth.
@@nathanseper8738 it really highlights the failures of revisionism in the Soviet Union. Aka capitalist reforms. Had they kept Stalin era socialist economic policy the USSR would still be the great power it once was.
Really highlights the failure of communism.
you're assuming its west germany when it wasnt specified though

Fun Fact: US will would still be on top if the title was "Top 15 Countries by Debt"
That’s the American way

the US can clearly handle its debt.
Whatever 🙄
You can thank Obama (Obummer) for 9 of the 22 trillion debt.
By 2017 all the top 15 are $ trillion + economies
In which application you made this video
Cute little Switzerland managed to be top 15 for few years 😊
The Swiss are greedy assholes who saw no problem profiting off the destruction and chaos of World War II. You'd think if the country was truly as neutral as they say they would've kept themselves completely out of the war but no of course they had to get a piece of the pie.
The-EU_ _hasTheBigGey what are you talking about? Mind giving evidence?
@@chairmanlmao4482 They played the politics game and won. Got their stocks full of Nazi gold, their lands weren't bombed by anyone, they didn't waste millions of lives that could be used to producing things, etc.
After the war, since they were a democracy and all, the Allies couldn't invade them because of their lack of help, and what little industrial capacity and fuck ton of loans Switzerland had to offer were at a high demand as Britain and most of the industrial powers of Europe were mainly rubble and craters.
Calling them 'bastards' for being shrewd like this is the same as calling the entirety of Europe 'bastards' for colonizing. Yeah, ethically, it was 'bad', politically and economically it was the best thing they could have ever done. This is how Britain got to control 1/4 of the whole world in the past. And how the USA controls what's left of it today, though using other means.

GDP on PPP basis would make much more sense, if you want to compare the size of individual economies.
Gergely Harangi i had the same idea
You would realize PPP is a whole lie as soon as you go abroad. I bet you had never taken a trip to abroad.
@@oas3610 been abroad for a few hundred times... The thing you talking about is the gdp per capita, which gives some hints about the quality of life - what you can "see" abroad. While GDP (nominal or PPP) is the measurement of the total size of an economy.
What is gdp ppp??
I don't agree. I think PPP is more sensible regarding the GDP per capita (since it reflects how people are really living there), but not regarding the size of the economy (that is to say, the gdp). Or tell me why it would make more sense economically, I'm open to debate.
Vamos Mexico, Brasil y España 🇲🇽🇧🇷🇪🇸
I'd love to know how you made this video for an incoming assignment, can you point me in the right direction.
You should really do population next (if you haven't)
Bernardavus its static for the past 50 years
China will remain on top in Population....!
China will make everyone else's population too small to even know what's going on
@@dashua1735 actually if you look at this video accurately(by covering everything left of the zero on the graph) you'd have essentially the same effect but here the US GDP is only 10 times bigger than Italy down. With Japan GDP being twice as big as those countries it's hard to tell scale wise because the US(and the actual starting line) skews the proportions of the graph comparatively.
The order of magnitude of the difference in a population graph might take giving China an additional line or two in order to actually represent the changes better maybe. (Or do it like layered health bars but filling up with a constant cap before a new layer in order to show speed of population growth in comparison to other countries)
@@morphingninja It would still leave the rest of the world in sub-pixel size. c:
And this is why Trump says : *_China_*
Well if he wants to out Do then his policies are absolutely shit. He’s driving us into another recession by letting the money pool at the top rather than be spread around more evenly in the middle (not talking about all of the money...just a lot of it)
