      Subzero, Wolf, Viking, all for the looks, absolutely not for the performance. I had Subzero in the previous house, I now have Viking in the current one, both over $10,000 MSRP, yet they share the exact same problem, premature rust at the old fashioned, cheaply made freezing compartment. They are not using stainless steel or aluminum there, and charge us that money? Can't blame them as there is no substitute in the vain snobbish people's mind.
      Like Rolex, LV bags, and stupid diamond rings, these high-end(?), poorly built appliances have absolutely ZERO practical value, people buy them to just show them off to others to get $$$ respect $$$. Pathetic. All of these vain, materialistic thingy break down easily, high maintenance, almost impossible to repair, hard to replace, yet they set your empty soul apart from less valuable common folks and make you feel better for that, nothing else.

      Yes. The late 80s & early 90s model are better because they are mechanical. The news ones are electric run. The older models have thicker copper pipes the new ones are thin because copper is so expensive. They are built to last for sure.

    Our SubZero lasted 22 years before dying this year. After two repair attempts the compressor basically was going. Replacing it, we were warned the new units last only 10 to 12 years as they as with everyone else have cut costs. So we plan to enjoy it as long as we can.

      @@DrAlexanderHamilton That is what the sales team told me. Still good quality, but because of all the computer chips for monitoring the door being open, the air filter, the water filter, and all connected to wi-fi they don't last as long as the simpler older models that lack all those electronics. It was just installed this past September as we ordered it January 2022 and it took 9 months to arrive. It has worked fine so far (just one light bulb was not screwed in correctly upon deliver and when I tightened it, it worked fine). I guess I will find out in about 12 years if it is still working fully or not.

    We purchased out 501r in 1998. We were told that it was 12 years old at that time which would make it 37 years old and still going. We did have one large repair, but it's so much better than throwing away cheap refrigerators. Just today, I started taking the shelves apart, scrubbing all of the gaskets and touching up any chips in the paint.

  • @dw2843

    The reason these last long is because people are willing to repair them due to their cost. Not because they’re more reliable. I can say that as an owner I have had to have mine repaired just about as often as any standard fridge

      These featues dont make a diffrence to longevity. Vaccum seals do the opposite of lasting long. I bought a standard refrigerator and freezer for a very cheap few $100 dollars and even though they're not my main fridge & freezer anymore, they still work perfectly 21+ years later. Most fridges last for ever and if sub zero lasts 35 years vs the standard 30, then its not worth paying 60x or 6000% the price for something barely better than the bottom of the barrel fridge.

    We spent nearly $35,000 on Wolf and Sub-Zero appliances (not from this authorized dealership tho). First, the built-in coffee maker never got to a hot temperature. Called customer service numerous times within the first month of being installed and they sent out someone to work on it but they never could get it any hotter so we don't use it since it makes luke warm coffee. Sub-zero/Wolf gave us an extended warrenty on our refrigerator because of the issue for the coffee maker??? Second, built in double oven has never been at the precise temp so we have always had to guess and bake longer and one of the lights burned out within the first 5 months of use. Third, the gas cooktop knobs do not stay in position. They will slightly turn/float so you can't get at a precise temperature. For example, if you want it on med heat and place the knobs to the middle it will eventually float to simmer. This happens to two of the knobs and started since first purchased. And last, refrigerator alarm kept sounding so I called customer service and the rep was rude and augmentative. That was the last straw and therefor this review. If you think these are top of the line appliances without issues you will be disappointed. I would skip buying because they are overpriced and definently not worth it!!

    I bought a 36" wide Subzero 550 in 2005, it was new, but actually built in 2000. After both the freezer and fridge compressors failed last year, Subzero paid for both compressors and most of the labor to repair and replace them. Everyone has different opinions about everything, but I think Subzero is an incredible company, especially after it paid to fix a 20 year old unit. Plus I built a 'stainless steel' restaurant style kitchen in my home, and the Subzero with stainless panels installed looks stunning, no other unit comes close to match the beauty or reliability and customer service of a Subzero.

    • @sbkarajan
      @sbkarajan 3 роки тому +1

      You should elaborate your extra ordinary claim that subzero paid for your "most of" the labor. How much did the parts cost YOU to replace? $2,000? $3,000? My Viking refrigerator just died, out of warranty, and I am trying to get service, but I am supposed to wait for a week for the "certified" repairman just to take a look, and they are charging $200 for the visit, just for the diagnosis. Oh, the review of the repair company is extra ordinary too, lots of 1 star reviews followed by comparable number of 5 star reviews, and I am not very happy. There was a review, 1 star, that said this repairman came, spent less than 10 min to diagnose, and told the homeowner to replace the refrigerator and charged $200 for the visit, lol.

    • @MacawAviculture
      @MacawAviculture 3 роки тому

      @@sbkarajan every repair facility has their own pricing structure, and initial Subzero repair analysis cost me $150.00 for the 'analysis'. Subzero paid $2000 for the compressors and other parts needed to fix the major problem, and I paid close to $500 for the labor Subzero did not cover. Like a Lexus, or any other high quality and well made product, both parts and repair cost can be higher than most, but the Subzero stands alone for quality and workmanship. My next purchase will be a commercial grade restaurant 48" stand alone fridge and separate freezer; these products cost much less than similar Subzero models, and are mounted on casters for easy cleaning and come in a beautiful stainless outer appearance. True is a great brand for the commercial line of products. I have 4 large Macaws, and need to store a lot of nuts, fruits, vegetables, and a variety of seeds, so my needs might be different than most people. I built a restaurant level kitchen with all stainless steel countertops to make cleanup quick and easy.

    I have a Sub Zero refrigerator. It is customized with cherry wood panels that matches the surrounding cabinets perfectly. I would agree everything you said if it never needs a replacement. Recently my refrigerator is broken and needs to replace. Due to its size and customization, of cause plus Sub Zero's reputation, I'm looking for another Sub Zero refrigerator. The experience I had tells me to stay away with this brand if it's possible. First, it discontinued French door wood panel products. The look and feel doesn't make Sub Zero stands out any more. Second, even I want to pay much more than other brands to have a stainless steel face refrigerator, it needs at least ONE YEAR to get it. What are they thinking, the customers will buy another refrigerator and get rid of it one year after? It is not acceptable for Sub Zero to treat people spending $12000+ to buy their product. I will have option to have a loaner when drop my car for oil change in repair shop for one day. Pick other manufactures when you have choices.

    I bought a kitchenaid 48" integrated after seeing the price of Miele and Sub Zero. They can claim the latter is a better product but in the end, they all need some servicing sooner or later. I saved myself 10 grand going with kitchenaid, I'm sure I won't spend the difference in servicing for many years. Don't believe what they claim, in the end, its still a fridge and spending over 20 grand is ridiculous. The fridge never gets mentioned in a realtors listing either, don't believe that crap. My neighbor has been selling houses for 30 years and has never listed the brand of any appliance in the listing.

    definitely worth the money. I just purchased a high end home with a built in unit. It cools consistently with it's vacuum system and insulation. This unit has the quality of those made 40 years ago. Prior to now the average refridgerator lasts 5-7 years if lucky. In this case buy cheap get cheap.

    This doesn make a diffrence to longevity. Vaccum seals do the opposite of lasting long. I bought a standard refrigerator and freezer for a very cheap few $100 dollars and even though they're not my main fridge & freezer anymore, they still work perfectly 21+ years later. Most fridges last for ever and if sub zero lasts 35 years vs the standard 30, then its not worth paying 60x or 6000% the price for something barely better than the bottom of the barrel fridge

      Hi Suzy - sorry to hear this. Have you tried reaching out to SubZero? Here is their direct number: (800) 222-7820. Depending on when you purchased your refrigerator, you may still be under warranty. Their patented sealed system (essentially the heart of the unit, including compressors, condensers, evaporators, driers and even tubing) is under warranty for a full five years. After five years, the unit is covered on the sealed system with a limited 12-year warranty.

    The answer to the question posed here is absolutely no. My wife and I are building our last house and we're going all out. I can't tell you how disappointed we were at these premium refrigerators. They are not worth the money unless you just want to show off period. They are all cabinet depth and even the 42 inch models hold about as much as a standard 36 inch refrigerator which is as much as 1/5 the price. I just don't get it. I would rather have a commercial refrigerator but the wife did not like the look so we're opting standard 28 cubic foot 36 inch model. Our last refrigerator lasted almost 12 years so you're still ahead of the game.
