Hey Zack, Thanks for the continued teaching and inspiration. After 2 years of on and off (mostly off) DIY work, my very own backyard concrete miniramp is close to being complete. I never could have imagined how much mental and physical work it takes to build DIY concrete features. I've felt overwhelmed at times after seemingly endless days of lifting 80lb bags of concrete into and out of my sedan, spending more than I planned each time, schlepping the bags around, hiding them from the rain, and then mixing bag after bag... And after all that I've barely made a dent, however, I avoided all my life responsibilities and now I have to tend to them! Your DIY and documentation work kept me motivated when it felt impossible. It's been a childhood dream of mine to have a miniramp. I just wanted thank you for your part in making it come true. Yours truly, Steven Reddick
Car guy here, you used way too much hardener. The recommended amount of hardener on the can is for like cool weather. In 100* cali sun you need to use like 2 dots of hardener for it to have a decent working time.
Look how beautiful the last letter fades out on the transition! Makes this sick spot look better and tells that the writers are cool with what you are doing.. awesome!
Preamble: You've inspired me to start working on a spot... I thought I'd looked hard enough in the past but somehow found and awesome ditch I've missed for 10 years.... only a couple of minutes from my house 🤦♂️ Question: Do you share your spots? If so how? Apps? I'm thinking I'd like to find a way for the right kind of skater to find this spot. Couple of ideas I've had so far are some sort of symbol that would hint at a secret spot nearby? Or maybe some skate stickers, 'Have you seen him' stickers with little arrows for example? The other thought was some sort of ground graffiti that might some day end up in an aerial image of the are... saying something like "Animal Chin was here" (I figure anyone who's familiar with Animal Chin or similarly dated skate references by this stage is deep enough in skating to respect the spot.)
I am helping out my local skatepark also by building some extra stuff, so i find this really great. I have an idea for a obstacle/addition to your skate park. I built a little box to grind by building by laying bricks 50cm apart and then fill it with concrete then adding angle iron to the corners and leave it to dry. hope to see more
Looking for a foundation in my area to start my first concrete diy. Perhaps a wall ride along with a parking curb sitting on bricks. Inspired by you 😎 never thought this would become a hobby of mine, thank you Dowdy
Yo dude. Those ripped bags are a steal. Lowes will provided quick Crete paper bag to hold them for less spill. Another thing you can do it cop construction trash bags and put the bags in there and all you have to do is when you get to the spot is put the water in the bag and mix by moving the bag back and forth. Crk. Good luck homie.
It's not the Bondo's fault Dowdy. You just added too much hardner. It will eventually dry without it, it just takes a lot longer. I used to do body work. Bigger the job, less hardner. Keep up the awesome work!
I recently had a factory/plant shut down near me and there are a bunch of spots to skate. Ive pretty mush set up a little skatepark by the back loading dock(even has a mini QP) and I've been lucky that nobody has said anything yet...
@@ZackDowdy Thanks! May I also ask, how come you don't get wheel bites with 56mm wheels without riser pads? Have ACE AF1 55 trucks on my 8.5'' board with OJ 56mm Plain Janes wheels and I *do* get wheel bites although it's fitted with 1/16'' ACE shock pads. Haven't tightened the trucks though.
It isn’t that you used too much hardener, it’s that you are mixing too much at once. It is meant to be mixed in small batches so that you use it before it hardens, then you mix more.
Trick on the bondo clean where your gona use it at real good and mix it right there while your spreading it dont use the board , and also use less hardner
They’re called a diamond blades, or in the case of a grinder, diamond cut-off wheels or masonry cut-off wheels. You can also buy a diamond blade for your circular saw. More convenient and does a better job than the little grinder wheels in my opinion. Then there’s the option of renting/borrowing a gas powered concrete saw. Definitely the way to go if you have an arse-load of cuts to make.
Bro hit up Independent Trucks for a collaboration video making a DIY spot. (I’m just assuming you live near where they are at) Also make sure you throw some Indi’s on before hitting them up😂

Thank you, needed this. I also thought without enough hardner it wouldn’t dry.
@@ZackDowdy Try to use something other than wood to mix stuff on too since it can leech stuff out and make your mixing unbalanced.
@@ZackDowdy ^ he’s right!! and it helps to mix small batches. Better to mix 4 batches and get them all down in time that waste half of it in one shot.
and tips on where to find an abandoned place to build a d.i.y skatepark cheers

I really think you should build like a A-frame with a hubba or something those are sick and it would be a cool project to try
Thank you for the support holmes, A-frame would really fun.
Love this series man....let's hope it stays fir a while.
Keep building bro 😎
Thank you for the support homie

That’s rad! Such a good idea for an obstacle

Stoked to hear the fire is lit!
your content is extremely motivating dude!
I found myself a nice shaded waterway and started a QP with my buddy from your inspiration big dog! Keep going!

So sick

The man back at it!.. Keep up the good work DIY for life. Even though I don't skate anymore still love seeing you getting out there enjoying yourself.
i love this, helps me a lot and was fun watchin you guys shred it bro
That's such a cool DIY and hyped it survived while you were away 👍😎👊
Did the same thing the other day. Wasted good quick concrete. Getting so stressed out working with that stuff. :-D
And for smaller cracks, superglue and baking soda works great to, if you can find the big bottles of glue at a reasonable price
I always bring a rub brick for bondo missions too
Need to bring back some home made can couping to this spot ✌️🤟💯

Ep.5 please!
Love from Sweden!
Maybe grind out a notch at the base to fill in and make that the bottom transition point with the existing slab.
Grass roots DIY! Thanks for sharing. What wheels are you using (diam & hardness)?
Right now I'm trying some Acid, 56mm 99a

Dope

Would be cool if you did a video with Alan Young
so cool!!

I love your editing! what monitor are you using with your MacBook ?
Cool build man! Leave some cards/notes with your UA-cam channel so the graph artists can follow along + see their peices on video.
making me wanna do this shit man
You got it!
Buy a bottles plastersizer you need less water in your mix and it's just as wet plus twice as strong as you used less water
What wheel are you using on the angle grinder to cut concrete? Just found a stop for a DIY

Long mellow bank to ledge as the next addition?

Try ardex feather finish next time

Oceansider here. where is this spot exactly?

Mayb to much hardener in the bondo
To much hardener. Use less if its hot and you'll have more time to apply it.
Sign ur name in spot.. concrete
You used way too much of the second part of the bondo
You are using too much hardener
Home Depot politics suck. know who you're giving your money to.
