I don’t know why watching you put that caltracs on was surprisingly entertaining. I think it was the back and fourth banter with professional race team mechanics and Adam’s rudnic way of trying. 😅
@@unnamed6419 Just as a jab at Adam for lols, he is so analytical and detail oriented. It is funny when he works on projects himself, he turns into a driveway mechanic, not worrying about the details he obsesses over on the other builds.
Final clip with Hughes was sick. Love having the FD guys in the compound. You should do more content with the FD drivers. They're all so fun and have great energy
With the plasma cutter, if you use a straight edge that can keep the nozzle about an 1/8th inch above what you're cutting, it works a lot better. Keep practicing, Fabrication is awesome.
I gotta say Adam i wasnt subscribed before....but after this series with this car and watching you work on it was amazing....this is the build that earned my sub.
This has been my favourite "build" if you will by far haha. Love the old school Japenese era!! And these leaf spring suspension issue has really helped me with my Datsun 120Y (B210 for you guys haha) build and I'm glad I don't have to break the bank getting a 3 or 4 link rear end! Thanks Adam and crew, much love from Australia :) !!!!
Love old school JDM too, can't wait to see what they do with this one.. The rx-2 and 3 are crazy popular now in Australia and NZ.. I'm betting Adam will get another couple thousand subscribers just with this build 😅 Not that he needs it... Lol
@@AudioReviewsDownunder your not wrong brother, too bad they come with an insane price tag 😅 Thankfully the Dattos have gone up a bit finally haha. Will be alot more fun than their stock drive train though 😉
My s10 truck runs 5.80s on no prep on the street with just cal tracs, trz antiroll bar, and viking shocks on stock leafs with overloads removed...they work incredibly well
I love these little cars and feel in love with rotary engine when I was a teenager Puerto Rico race teen came to atco race way but still have not built one but it is on my list after finishing my current projects
Happy to say i commented on the last video about installing cal-tracs for a period correct build! Hope you researched and took my recomendation (as an old school hot rod guy)
I’m loving this new car and Adam doing things MOSTLY alone! Trying to best the shock on with the plate in the way, had me lmao!!!! I love the car and love the regular simple way of doing things!!!
needs to buy some viking shocks with studs on each end. will fit straight in with the holes in the caltrac spring saddle bracket underneath the diff. watching this was frustrating haha
Wow, I watched the whole process and I'm really happy that it worked out for you. On the other hand, according to my thorough calculations, if you had Superman fly in the opposite direction of Earth's rotation and change the effect of gravity on your wheel hop, it would have been easier and cheaper in the long run.
Yo Adam watching you guys run that lathe was pretty scary ! You should always have at least 1/3 of the part clamped inside the chuck to avoid it flying out. Also your tool is out too far, dont be afriad to use the tailstock to help keep the part secure and run true ! Not to mention invest in a cutoff tool, Using a turning insert for a cutoff tool is innovative but not the best idea 😂A good set of verniers and micrometers will also help you with tolerances.
Use the center to line it out before clamping instead of hamering. If you start learning things the proper way its 1/2 the job done. Get some equipment like dial gauges and use them to line out. The first time you work with an independent 4 claw plate it will take have a day 😉. Nice to see you doing things yourself again like in the beginning when i started following you.
Haha man, i was cringing from the first time he said “let’s lathe it down” Ive had the thought a few times of trying to start a consulting business for UA-camrs 😂 where I come in and help them get setup and teach them how to use basic manual equipment. So they don’t lose an arm to a lathe or look like a buffoon.
Instead of smashing on the bushing in the leaf spring, you can just put it in a press or bench vice and presto....! (Kinda fun watching a noob just learning the hard way, it's why I love favrication... the tricks and tips are seamingly endless when it comes to producing a component)
Datsuns are common here in Australia. Have a look at MADDAT they have plenty of parts for the 1200. Like there awesome s chassis crossmember conversion that I have in my 1200 ute
From my perspective of how you took the video.. The hanger that you pulled out to press the bolt out looks like it can flip to the other side of the car and vice-versa and give you a few inches in length extra based on the way the tabs are sitting it looks like could be wrong but that's how it looks like from the video
Pretty cool to see how Adam was in school for engineering. “I’m pretty sure he dropped out to pursue UA-cam”. Yet here he is doing all the engineering things by trade.
at 20:31 it's the before the mod and at 20:41 it says the before again, i think it needs to says "after" because, small editor mistake xd Keep up the good work adam, good video
Cool I really liked this video.. this is the fun part of building cars running into problems and using what you got and your imagination to fix it instead of having someone else do it for you or buying new parts specially on old cars like these!! 🙌🙌
Loving watching you do it wrong rather than paying someone. That u-bolt engagement is sketchy though. Get some longer u-bolts any medium duty truck spring shop can make you some.
Couldn’t care less about the 4 rotor supra, or just about any of the cars on the channel these days, but an update on the musty old Datsun with a turbo2 swap? INSTANTLY clicking the video, hitting like and dropping a comment 😂
7:00 shorten the distance the cutter on the lathe is sticking out. Thats why its making the squeaking noise. Its vibrating bcz the tool is out too far.
The leaf springs hold the ride height, the shock is going to be able to be pressed with your hands slowly. It’s job is to just slow down the movement of the axle and leaf springs.
👍🔧💪 Adam's determination to not only rebuild the entire car but also overcome challenges is truly admirable. His commitment to the project and the effort he puts into finding cost-effective solutions is impressive. It's intriguing to witness his dedication and problem-solving skills in action. This video sparks my curiosity about his innovative approaches and makes me wonder what other unique solutions he'll come up with. Keep up the great work, Adam! 🚗🛠👏
first video I've watched to the end. only because Im a jealous prick, now he's learning blue collar skills which we have to do to have nice things, well done Adam!
Oh, yeah, it's OK that you can move the shocks by hand, they don't have springs on em, do they? Just take your time and keep em near where they'll operate at while you're installing, (You might want to go with a heavier weight rating cause that axle's such a chunk, but KYB Gas-Adjusts are pretty go-to for this sort of thing. ) There'll probably be a lot more fiddling, especially if you're making a drag car out of this.
The Volvo Dana 30 rear axle is probably one of the strongest whilst still being lightweight (compared to a ford 9 inch) and commonly available options for old toyota's and datsuns. lots of diff centre options as this housing is similar to the jeep front differential. probably still need to shorten it to fit a 1200 but they are waaaaay lighter than a 9 inch.
I really am enjoying this little series but it really hurts my soul 😢 as a classic car enthusiast and mechanic that leaf spring suspension is such a wild and strange concept to Adam and many of the others😅

Adam trying his best to not just rebuild this entire car is admirable.
Yep! It way to clear, he wants to throw the engine to Vargas brothers, and sand the whole car down, and paint it
