    Torts had the perfect character and swagger for New York City. Aggressive, no nonsense and no bullshit. Edgy guy for an edgy city. Supposedly one of the most generous and benevolent people off the ice, who was heavily involved with his wife in many charities. Would love to see him back here coaching the Rangers again.

    Torts took a lot of criticism(and outright hatred) from people during the first 10-15 years of his coaching career, but I think most hockey fans are starting to come around on him and realize that he is a damn good coach. There's a reason he never stays unemployed for very long.

    I have so much fucking respect for Torts. He demands so much from his players, and he can be a butthole of the highest order at times, but he’s so honest and introspective. He’s a flawed person and he admits to it openly. North American sports as a whole would be better if there were more coaches like him.

    Im A life long Ranger fan. The bottom line is love him or hate him he is a terrific coach. And he is right. I wish more people would focus on that instead of the negative stuff. However just like human nature his act can wear on people after time. So I like Torts. When his career is over you would be a fool to say he wasnt a tremendous coach. I will always root for Torts to win another Stanley Cup.

    Bottom line Coach Tortorella is a damn good coach, he cares about what he does, the game of hockey, and who he coaches. Media is so misleading and when you have an honest guy, who makes no apologies for who he is, it comes out negative. Coach Tortorella in my opinion is a real, true person.

    An aggressive American coach who has an overblown valuation on his expertise and knowledge. That's the reason Tortorella couldn't cut it with a Canadian team. As Sean Avery describes, Torterella doesn't understand the nuances of the game from a player's perspective since he never played at any recognizable level, thus is not respected by players. Then to find someone like that at the NHL level is astounding. He should be banned from the game, not only for his lack of knowledge and his reputation, but his poor approach to others in general, as well as the contentious relationship with the media.

    • @sean2015
      @sean2015 5 років тому +7

      With all due respect, wasn't *Pat Burns* EXACTLY the same as what you describe here? i.e. a fiery, aggressive and confrontational coach who never played pro hockey, openly despised the media and who tended to inspire fear more than respect in his players? (I don't mean to speak ill of the dead, but you would have to agree with these points).
      I don't see why you bring up Tortorella's nationality and how that has any bearing on any of the other points you've made.
      I also don't understand what you mean when you say "Canadian team". The Blue Jackets (whom Tortorella now coaches) have just as many Canadian players on their roster as Americans, and most of their players are actually either European or Russian.
      The Florida Panthers for example are geographically as far from Canada as you can get anywhere in the NHL, but almost all of their players are from north of the border. Where a team is franchised has little to no bearing on its team culture.
