To all the people complaining about mirrors and not being eye level - I play the f1 games in cockpit view and have never used the mirrors because they're no good. This is excellent, thanks for the footage.
They did on Valtteri Bottas in Bottas in 2013 but only on a few occasions during FP1 and it was during an installation lap. They should get those glasses that have a camera built into it.
I have driven Spa in the wet, this video is the truest view I have seen of what it is really like in the cockpit. Thank you for putting it up. I was not, by the way in an F1 car, I was in a Caterham Blackbird.
Ballsy and fantastic driving. Would always love to watch you drive exotic cars and race cars from this drivers eye viewpoint. Thanks so very much for sharing these amazing driving experiences
That did feel a little too high, but it was good to get somewhat of an idea of what the driver would be seeing. Better than the Williams' version anyway - that one was way too low.
Epic video. I mllove kotor sport more everytime they show us the real stuff like how drivers train. What the crew do between races love it, love it love it!!!
How do you figure that when the quote says the camera was blocking the view of one of his eyes? Seems a pretty definitive view to me. I can only guess that the camera was side mounted on the helmet with an extension of some kind that brought the lens in front of part of the visor.
What happened at 3:11? seems the tires lost friction because of the hard acceleration? Is there an automatic system kick in ? or the driver releases the gas pedal manually ??
see the violent correction at 1:25 .... compare to how much was required to do a 90 degree turn at the beginning of the clip when he pulled out of the garage,
Great video, Really hopes this gets into the F1 TV coverage. If it were placed behind the visor then we could finally get past Coulthard having to explain what the driver sees.
It is eye level, but I feel like the view we see is much further forward. If you look at the mirrors, all we see is the asphalt, meaning it's either a high pov, or further forward pov.
a câmera não está no nível do olho, está pregada na parte de cima do capacete. Tem um video aqui mesmo no youtube que mostra Di Grassi preparando a câmera acima do capacete.
Well, we both have different ways of getting our information: I agree with what you said but, I was talking about the Super Sport (the black and orange one!) plus the Top Gear UK guys did test it, and James May got 500 kph of i, but then; the buggati test-driver got even more, I believe! Anyways, it was a road car with 1000 horse power: a F1 car can't have that much power nor horse power or else it will simply break parts, which are very expensive (he sterring thing is over 500 euros....)
I believe this is eye level. Just the camera is probably placed outside of the helmet (in front of one his eyes) causing the reflections in the mirrors to be facing downwards.
100% correct Lynkk. I drove formula cars professionally for years, when the engineers setup your driving position they want your head as low as possible to get you out of the air and to get your body mass as low as possible for better CG, you can barely see over the wheel. And I'm sorry Dick Dousche but the mirrors are absolutely used all the time, you need to know if you are clear before moving back over after overtaking. I would say the cam is on the helmet just over top the visor. Getting close though, if they ever do get real eye level cam, you will see just how confined your view point really is.
@@ianhenderson8032 , you are so right. In real life, the steering wheel is higher and you don't see the hood. Plus, in reality you're going to see the edges of your helmet visor.
its good, but i prefer the traditional T-cam above the air intake... granted it doesnt giv u the same level of realism in terms of the drivers perspective, but you can see alot more and its fixed, where ofcourse this one moves about alot.
Still can't find words. Thanks guys for sharing this with the fans
To all the people complaining about mirrors and not being eye level - I play the f1 games in cockpit view and have never used the mirrors because they're no good. This is excellent, thanks for the footage.
They have to find a way to incorporate this into real races. Will make the viewing experience incredible to watch an overtake from this perspective
They did on Valtteri Bottas in Bottas in 2013 but only on a few occasions during FP1 and it was during an installation lap. They should get those glasses that have a camera built into it.
weight issues i guess
Eles já fizeram isso! Haha
One complete lap at spa. Pit out, pit in. AAAGGHHHH!!! Thank You! AAAGGHHHH,AAAGGHHHH!!! Thank you for the best driver's view I have seen yet!
I have driven Spa in the wet, this video is the truest view I have seen of what it is really like in the cockpit. Thank you for putting it up. I was not, by the way in an F1 car,
I was in a Caterham Blackbird.
That wheel spin & INSTANT countersteer going to the pit in tiny margins for error = amazing. TY
You sir, have balls of titanium for doing this with only one eye. Great job!
Ballsy and fantastic driving. Would always love to watch you drive exotic cars and race cars from this drivers eye viewpoint. Thanks so very much for sharing these amazing driving experiences
An absolutely magnificent video, even just cruising up Eau Rouge was awe inspiring!
That did feel a little too high, but it was good to get somewhat of an idea of what the driver would be seeing.
Better than the Williams' version anyway - that one was way too low.
Who gives a damn about the point of view being a bit higher then eye level....the man is going 270+ km/h in that weather on that track...
IvanTheHurricane one eye blind no less
Is this faster then Ford Fusion? Wife wants a new grocery hauler and trying to decide which one is best ?
its close but i think this beats it by a little
Excellent video, fantastic driving in wet & one eye open....real balls!
Those tires are phenomenal!
Codemasters are doing it so wrong..
no, it was obviously higher than eye-level because you can't see the road through the mirror
ballackhamilton im aware sir, either way, theyre still doing it wrong.
DavieDrum98 Is not a Sim, just that, is for pussies :D
Juan Amieva Its a sim now.
+DavieDrum98 No :D
Awesome! Great to see eye level F1 lap!
Epic video. I mllove kotor sport more everytime they show us the real stuff like how drivers train. What the crew do between races love it, love it love it!!!
impressive... very impressive... Crazy balls to do that in the wet.
Thank you for uploading and on one of my fave tracks! :D
How do you figure that when the quote says the camera was blocking the view of one of his eyes? Seems a pretty definitive view to me. I can only guess that the camera was side mounted on the helmet with an extension of some kind that brought the lens in front of part of the visor.
Spa Francorchamps!
Lucas, tnx for upload. Why FOM don't use this cam in TV-translations?
0:00-0:27 what does those numbers on steering wheel display, when car is in garage while engine is running mean?
I think it's Water temperature and Oil temperature
Just watched it. That was awesome! Thanks for sharing mate.
Awesome video, thanks for that. And wow so it's really eye level !!! badasssss !!!!
did you notice the different colors blue went on it was a turn and full colors was just full power very good
That's some damn skill...wet track and one eye blocked
What happened at 3:11? seems the tires lost friction because of the hard acceleration? Is there an automatic system kick in ? or the driver releases the gas pedal manually ??
Yes the driver seems to have lost traction/over-steered, there is no automatic system just pure driver reaction :)
Eau Rouge in the wet, behind a wet visor, with one eye and still 140+ km/h, 2 feet off the ground, love it.
When did they start using a lotus/renault for testing? In previous videos i believe they used the 09 toyota if i remember correctly
That was a very, very safe lap. With 2 eyes he could have been MUCH faster.
But what team was it? The colours would be like Team Stealth-Fighter.
Fantastic video thank you Lucas! !!!
Wanted a hot lap ! Why there's few videos like this?????
Id love to see that cam in race trim, see what its like at the proper start of a race, brilliant that is mind!
it's Lotus-Renault R30 actually, the challenger for F1 2010 season. for 2011 tyre testing, Pirelli used the Toyota.
F a n t a s t i c o !!! Thanx for posting.. Rx
Can we please do this again on a dry day with slicks?!
What are the numbers on either side of the gear indicator on the wheel?
Why is there a Team Lotus logo on the steering wheel? I always thought Pirelli used a 2010 Toyota F1...
one word, Skill!
see the violent correction at 1:25 .... compare to how much was required to do a 90 degree turn at the beginning of the clip when he pulled out of the garage,
Great video, Really hopes this gets into the F1 TV coverage.
If it were placed behind the visor then we could finally get past Coulthard having to explain what the driver sees.
It says in the description that it was blocking one eye.
This is awesome stuff, more please!
It is eye level, but I feel like the view we see is much further forward. If you look at the mirrors, all we see is the asphalt, meaning it's either a high pov, or further forward pov.
Boa Luquinhas!!! Quebra tudo no Fórmula E porra!!!
People complaining the lap is slow, have you even read the description! He is only looking through one eye. The camera is blocking one of his eyes.
@reysmith1 it is pretty fast lap. The problem is - track's wet.
a câmera não está no nível do olho, está pregada na parte de cima do capacete. Tem um video aqui mesmo no youtube que mostra Di Grassi preparando a câmera acima do capacete.
Is it possible that I saw 3 Pirelli-F1 trucks on friday that where on the way to Spa?
Awesome point of view.
Are you saying they will make an HD video helmet cam in the future?
What? Now I´m curious, who build that thing???
nuts !!!! awesome skills
thanks a lot for uploading this video. made me dreamin...
What's wrong with a GoPro ?
I wonder when we'll have this camera on the live broadcasting...
Agreed:) Note: Don't mean to annoy you, but I don't think we should bug this video saying its title is wrong. It's close enough:)
I wasn't sure because i remember seeing on the F1 website that pirelli got their hands on one of the Renaults
Does anyone know why he revved it to the rev limiter at the end before shutting it off? Did they just cut the fuel and let it run out?
amazing video, thank you for this
FANTASTIC - thanks ! - E
The camera surely sticks out a bit, so make it a little further back, and then it's true eye level.
Eye-Level Camera that awesome
nice camera Lucas, this real camera, now only maybe on Bottas is this camera. Unbelievable nice camera :)
really awesome!
I'm impressed that sticker on the right tire lasted until 1:55
Ah, I found it. Was is that 2010 Renault?
freaking awesome!!!
Lotus steering wheel?
What track is he driving on?
i can see the mirrors fine.. what's your point?
I thought the TF110 was the car raced by Virgin racing in the 2010 season? Did they not buy toyota f1 at the begining of 2010?
what's the rev about at the end?
Will Should implement this camera for television xD
Is this the Toyota TF109 or the Renault R30?
AMAZING!!!

Love the lotus wheel design. :)
How fast is the fastest in this video?
This is awesome
How do you do? Getting Better All The Time. rail real What's your opinion about it, guys
is he under-shifting because of the rain?
I like how everyone is saying it's not eye level but Lucas said himself said it's on his visor, he's a tall driver.
Thanks Lucas!!
great stuff!
I think it is proper to conclude that the camera is higher than eye level as the mirrors show the side pods not the correct rear view.
I believe this is eye level. Just the camera is probably placed outside of the helmet (in front of one his eyes) causing the reflections in the mirrors to be facing downwards.
it's still too high, look at the mirrors...
mirrors on an f1 car are shit. they probably didnt even have them set up, this was alone
100% correct Lynkk. Sick camera
The speed is in kilometers or miles?
great video
its good, but i prefer the traditional T-cam above the air intake... granted it doesnt giv u the same level of realism in terms of the drivers perspective, but you can see alot more and its fixed, where ofcourse this one moves about alot.
Why not camera between eyes?
Nice job!
This is craziness!
amazing!!!
this is awesome
he makes it look so easy
Aight, thanks. Didn't knew about Honda testing : )
Yeah i agree with you bout 2009 Renault.
