You do realize that Green Lanterns can travel faster than light right? They have to in order to cross galaxies in time spans shorter than 100s of years at least.
Well film universe lore and comic lore tend to be quite different as you know in comics paralax is a light based entity, a corp aspect kinda thing, each corp has one. In the movies he is just a tainted guardian.
You have a point, but who knows how close they are. They might be a millions of miles away from it for all we know. Anything would burn up even if got within hundreds of thousands of miles from the sun. It doesn't need to touch the surface to burn up.
I never realized that this movie was so hated? I remember watching this way back in 2012 as a kid. I loved it. Watching it again, it may have been a bit cheesy, CGI a little bit questionable. But Not THAT bad as everyone made it out to be. The Suspense i got as Hal was just suspended by two jets, as his enemy grew closer. Thinking Hal would at least get hit. I thought this scene was executed so well, despite physics and inaccuracies. The score really sells it too. This scene is still great to me!
The bad reviews come from the USA mostly from so-called film critics, which doesn't mean that everyone thinks exactly that way, for example I thought the first suicide squad was good but the majority thought it was bad, Constantine with keanu reeves, the fans thought it was good but the critics found it bad do you understand what i mean by that, not all people found films like the suicide squad, green lantern, or constantine bad but the films at the box office don't make much money then it is classified as a flop.
@@owenyin3316 There are a lot of asteroid clusters trapped at the earths lagrange points in the earths orbit around the sun. They are also called trojan asteroids.
Everyone's joking about Hal flying to the sun from the earth to sun so quickly. To be fair, this is actually comic accurate. He's crossed star systems and galaxies within minutes and crossed the observable universe in hours.
@@AthulChandran-qx5nw My main issue is that it looked like they went past the asteroid belt to the sun, which is like the complete opposite direction. Unless they were near-earth asteroids ofc
Is anyone else pondering how he traveled 93 million miles (distance between the earth and the sun) in 66 seconds? That means he was flying at 7.6 times the speed of light...or roughly 5,096,686,383 mph
Correct about the asteroid belt being the wrong way (and also not remotely that dense). But FTL travel is part of Green Lantern canon. Nothing wrong with make-believe, so long as they stick to the rules they made up.
@Nitesh Teotia This makes no sense, since Parallax would then also have to travel at the speed of light. And besides, the two could have traveled at the speed of light from the start. So if Parallax could have traveled at the speed of light, he would never have been devoured by the sun. So nothing makes sense
Planets are really rare, and even tho the universe is infinite (or at least very large in this universe) the universe would end before the light got very far
Give the guy a break. That's all he knows are skills, events and the surroundings where he grew up. Now that he's able to travel the universe he will be able to pick up more of those surroundings as he visits more planets and add them to his skills set.
Using more will power makes the constructs more stronger. What he actually needs is more imagination so that next time it will not be just jets and a lousy fist.
i love how hal being a human means his thoughts would be more modern and more military because he knows the military is stronger than civillians so his mind goes to that, and metal being a strong material he decides was good to protect himself
At no point during the movie did they show the thin force shield that surrounds their body. The force shield is extremely important. Not only does it provide extraordinary durability and protection from all kinds of attacks like bullets, atomic bombs, space debris, radiation , it also allows them to breathe underwater, in space, ect. It also keeps the user completely comfortable in the most inhospitable environments like deep inside active volcanoes or on arctic planets and everything in between. The Green lanterns are amazing. This movie didn't do them justice.
@@Lor_Krenydid we watch the same movie? They didn't show it nor did they explain it's function and importance. Take this scene for instance, he just looks like he's flying through space with no protection around his body or head.
it showed it on his first trip to Oa. If hes already been shown to fly through space once then its pretty clear that hes got a field around him. Just sounds like your picking bits of the movie apart just to complain about something lol. Maybe not everything about the ring needs to be exposition dumped. Also the suit is made of pure will energy. In the comics the green parts are hot to the touch and the black is cold. Maybe the green parts of the suit are that energy field and the rest is like you said a "thin" aura.
@Christopher Washington No I'm just a actual Green Lantern fan who's sick and tired of WB entertainment completely shitting on them. I've already explained the importance of the force shield. Them only Showing it once when he was being taken to Oa is like watching a batman movie where he has his cape on for the first few scenes of the movie then the rest of the movie It's gone. The force shield is CRITICAL to the Green Lantern!
After years passed. All the sudden, people like this movie. But when it first came out. "It was shit, CGI was crap." Therefore ending the beginning of the DCU. People don't give these movies a chance.. I liked all the movies.
Personally I'd much rather see a matured Reynolds still playing Green Lantern but I know there's a lot of Deadpool fans out there(i'm just not one of them). The timing seemed bad too with starting off with Green Lantern before establishing some of the other heroes. The GL corps may have been a bit much to take on so early in the cinematic universe.
eureka0521 oh okay. Idk I didn't see this as a bad movie. Even my friends who are all about marvel actually told me it's not a bad movie. Right now they don't like Batman v Superman, but later they will watch haha. Did you like bvs?
Keep in mind other green lanterns tried to team up and take it down but they couldn't, and hal did it all by himself... True definition of I'm built different 💪
The notorius "animated green suit" People say its shit. I dont know with them. And I also dont know why they hate it, its way ahead of its time, compared to other movies especially.
Green Lantern are supposed to protect the order in all of the Universe. The Universe has radius 91 trillions of light years, so it's obvious that if someone is sent to the corner of the Universe, he will not travel with speed of light, trillion years, but with magic speed days/hours.
He uses the power of imagination to make the distance earth-sun magically vanish. I also love how all he had to do was get 3 metters away from the (miniature?) sun and the gravitational pull of the sun stopped existing.
I wouldn't say so. Remember what they did with that new MIB movie with Chris Hemsworth and the other girl. Ragnarok was a hit but that MIB movie ain't it just because they have the actor for thor.
The whole plan is just straight up comedy: 1. Hal decides to go to the asteroid field 2. Then for some reason decides to turn around and fly to the sun at least 5 times faster than light 3. Parallax is stupid enough to not understand Hal's plan to drive him into the sun 4. Sun seem to have no effect on Hal or Parallax whatsoever. 5. Parallax looks like a shit spaghetti who had a bad Taco Tuesday 6. Basically, what are physics?
Physics doesn't really come into it with superhero movies like this though.. the whole premise of a green lantern ring is against our known laws of physics so..
This is not Physics Class. If we r going to search for logic or science theory in movie. Then I bet you that all the movie industries has to shut down. It's a movie to entertain and not to proof/verify science and neither a science application centre. So just chill and enjoy the movie.
At 2:42 Hal must have known he was going to die when he started to form that giant fist. He must have thought it was better for him to die to make sure Parallax could never escape the sun’s gravity than having his planet destroyed.
I actually liked Parallax design wise. Many will call him a space fart, but what I saw was basically a cloud of decomposing souls filled with countless skeletons floating in it. That is pretty fucking spooky to me, as well as metal as fuck, and fit right there with the ideas of power of fear.
Am I the only one that loved this flick? I thought it was funny, action packed, a solid story and of course Ryan did a great job bringing his huge personality to the movie. I gave it 8 out of 10 stars.
The movie is fine, but some of concept is not that good. For example, if green lantern would have flown a jet created out of his rings power instead of making two jets pull him out, it would have looked more impactful.
So I get that this movie isn't perfect, but it isn't near as bad as people made it out to be. Granted the animated GL movies are much better than this, but it's still an okay movie.
People love to over exaggerate how bad movies are. People say that there was absolutely EVERYTHING wrong with Suicide Squad but when you actually WATCH the movie and stop trying to fit in with the crowd of haters you realize it's a decent movie.
Just THINK about the things that happened in these movies. They are incredibly stupid and make no sense. Suicide Squad had terrible dialogue, the plot was rushed, the characters had little to no development except Harley Quinn and Deadshot all which did not form a cohesive movie in the end but more of a cluster-fuck of random clips. Green Lantern fails in the categories of logic in which everything in this movie makes no sense, it is very cliche and the characters are plain dumb. Cgi is the best of the worst things in these films and you cannot judge whether it is a good movie just upon how well it presents its special effects.
By "blindly" I assume you mean "watching it for enjoyment and not to try and make it look unacceptably awful". People say it had no development when in fact the longer you see the characters together the more you forget that they are the villains that Batman has been hunting down. They go from constantly bullying each other through the film to understanding one another near the end and treat each other as family and friends. After seeing them work together as a team and genuinely care for one another you forget that they are the bad guys. Deadshot even says a line that could be interpreted as a message to the viewer. "Don't forget, we're the bad guys". This isn't just a line to the group, it's there to remind you that you're not supposed to like these people, they would kill and rob you if they got the chance, without giving a shit. Also, the vfx and the sfx and soundtracks were awesome too.
Fun fact: Clancy Brown who is the voice of Lex Luthor and Mr. Krabs, actually played Parallax's voice in this movie and T.J. Storm did the motion capture performance of Parallax, who would go to play as Colossus from the 2016 Deadpool movie and he would play the Monsterverse incarnation of Godzilla.
I don't care how other people feel about this movie, I also don't understand why people say its bad. I really enjoyed this as a child and the memories related to this movie
the movie is mostly bad cgi, the dialogue is forced and corny, the end fight is just a giant computer generated monster, Hal is unlikeable, and none of the film makes sense if you try to think logically about anything that happens

There actually are small clouds of celestial debris scattered randomly throughout the solar system. Doesn't necessarily have to have been the asteroid belt.
I like it too but it was done pretty badly. Cringe dialogue, underdeveloped characters, especially fan favorites like kilowog, antagonist was designed pretty weird due to budget cuts they couldn’t make him look like parallax so they just made him a giant goop thing, not enough combat scenes, even this fight was just kinda like more of a metaphor than a fight. Antagonist tries to discourage him, he flys into space, throws a Satellite at him then tricks him into getting caught in the suns gravity. This movie was okay and definitely doesn’t need to be bashed as much as it was but that was only because they didn’t live up to the hype at all. Kinda ruined green lantern for a lot of people (which is why in DC universe today we still don’t have a green lantern on the team yet but we have the rest of the main guys.) they could of done much better with this movie, I just hope the next time someone tries they get it right lol
My bad I also meant to add, like I said the final battle was more a metaphor than a battle. It was supposed to symbolize him overcoming his fear, which is why you have that stare down scene and some theorize that that’s why the beam couldn’t hit him, not because the gravity but because his will was stronger than parallax s fear so the beam weakened as it got closer. Which is cool and all but let’s be honest, when we have a mf green lantern in the final fight of a movie we want action, an actual fight. Not this 😂 Hal spent more time and had more difficulty with the human guy with a big ass head for some reason 😂😂
When I saw this movie I was a kid, the only thing I cared about was pew pew boom pow special fx, so yeah... I loved this movie as a kid. Now a lot of people like it because of nostalgia.
May I'm weird, but I for one really liked the Green Lantern movie. I feel that those who didn't, expected too much 'reality' in a purely fiction story.
Seriously how realistic can they expect A superhero movie to be it’s ok with characters like Batman or green Arrow but with a cosmic character like green lantern you can afford to not be realistic
Those who actually read the comics know that the ring will automatically protect him from environmental effects. Lanterns die when their will falters enough that the ring can't protect them from incoming non-environmental (i.e. villain-induced) damage. And in fact, in some cases the ring will implant an illusion of well-being in the mind of a GL so that they can protect people (or whole planets) up to the moment of their death. That is also canon from the comics.
1:37 "The bigger you are, the faster you burn." The force of gravity doesn't make heavier objects fall faster. But it is true that bigger stars burn out faster.
Love how during the chase, Hal passes Neptune in the background, keeps going and runs into asteroids, presumably the Kuiper Belt... Then proceeds to continue in the same direction towards the sun. Solar system for dummies.
Comics Parralax: The Entity of Fear, used to weaken the Lantern Corps so they could not turn against the Guardians(reason for the yellow weakness of the rings), giant insectile monstrosity. Movie Parralax: Big smoky head.
Idk bout anyone else but this movie honestly doesn't deserve the hate it got, and parallax used to scare the absolute sh outta me when I was a kid and saw this.
Ryan Reynolds, who played the protagonist, famously hated the movie. He has admitted to having a poor working relationship with director Martin Campbell and was glad to see the film perform poorly critically and financially, as he did not wish to reprise his role as the Green Lantern. In his later movie Deadpool (2016), he references the Green Lantern in a negative way when he requests a suit that is neither green nor animated while being rolled into the medical room on a gurney; in the sequel Deadpool 2 (2018), he goes back into time, preventing himself from ever taking the Green Lantern role.

What do u mean, they did show it every time. It’s just a more realistic aura, not the really bright aura u see in the cartoons.
Physics just goes right out of the window in this scene
U are ass if u finding physics in fantasy movies
Green Lantern stories in a nutshell.
What physics? Bigger objects get pill harder than smaller
If this movie had been released exactly the way it is after Ryan Reynolds DeadPool success, it would have been a Blockbuster hit.
Actually though
No no he’s got a point
Or between 2017-now
I wouldn't say so. Remember what they did with that new MIB movie with Chris Hemsworth and the other girl. Ragnarok was a hit but that MIB movie ain't it just because they have the actor for thor.
No way it would still be a flop coz all the other superhero movies including Deadpool have already raised the bar
I like that classic green lantern giant fist punch in the end which Hal used to kill parallax. It is just like those old tv show times.
This movie is so underrated, I’m proud to say that I actually enjoyed this movie and I still do.
The whole plan is just straight up comedy:
1. Hal decides to go to the asteroid field
2. Then for some reason decides to turn around and fly to the sun at least 5 times faster than light
3. Parallax is stupid enough to not understand Hal's plan to drive him into the sun
4. Sun seem to have no effect on Hal or Parallax whatsoever.
5. Parallax looks like a shit spaghetti who had a bad Taco Tuesday
6. Basically, what are physics?
Physics doesn't really come into it with superhero movies like this though.. the whole premise of a green lantern ring is against our known laws of physics so..
I was eating spaghetti while reading this and my appetite disappeared.
Eclipse Darkstar THANK YOU
@@EclipseDarkstar also parallax is bigger and has higher mass, thus the gravitational pull of the sun is stronger on him.

man.. that buildup from 4:35 is so epic man with Sinestro raising his arms. Got me pumped.
Yep, it was well done. It also seems like Sinestro is enjoying that power... that feeling of having his own army. Nice foreshadowing.
At 2:42 Hal must have known he was going to die when he started to form that giant fist. He must have thought it was better for him to die to make sure Parallax could never escape the sun’s gravity than having his planet destroyed.

I disagree with everything you just said about SS, haven't watched GL so no comment.
LAZYNOOB2017 Care to share why or were you just blindly watching the film?

People dissed this movie so much but I actually enjoyed it lol

I think we can agree Mark Strong as Sinestro is missed, whatever u think of this movie
Funny how being so close to the sun didn't blind him, or set him on fire. Very accurate.
U are creepy
Because he went protected by the ring
Yeh cause that ring is just a normal ring
Those who actually read the comics know that the ring will automatically protect him from environmental effects. Lanterns die when their will falters enough that the ring can't protect them from incoming non-environmental (i.e. villain-induced) damage. And in fact, in some cases the ring will implant an illusion of well-being in the mind of a GL so that they can protect people (or whole planets) up to the moment of their death. That is also canon from the comics.
Wow you're so smart! Or maybe because he's just wearing a normal ring...
I want to hear Sinestro sing Country Roads...
Egsy creates a suit and tie out of the will energy
1:37 "The bigger you are, the faster you burn." The force of gravity doesn't make heavier objects fall faster. But it is true that bigger stars burn out faster.
Love how during the chase, Hal passes Neptune in the background, keeps going and runs into asteroids, presumably the Kuiper Belt... Then proceeds to continue in the same direction towards the sun. Solar system for dummies.

Man, remember that day the asteroid belt teleported between the Earth and the Sun? That was rad. I think it was the day they filmed Airplane 2.
