This past week has been feeling so surreal, our brains are still struggling to process anything that's happened yet?!
Everything is changing so suddenly which is bizarre after being so settled here for so long, but I guess that's #RentersLife D:
We're still very busy packing boxes and still anxiously waiting on news about the apartment we've applied for.
So let's keep our fingers crossed that we can get some good news soon!

Hi! I know it is probably a bit late, but I believe that you might get lucky with the top floor apartment. I don't know how things will be there, but I would like to share my experience. We live in a top floor apartment too, we don't have gas heating I believe it is called central heating what we have, but we can adjust the temperatures on the radiators. We had it turned off completely they only had frost protection until two weeks ago, and most of them has that still. We only turned up the heating in one room, but not because it is cold, but because we have an old parrot who has been moved here two weeks ago to live with us and we don't want it to get sick. Before turning on the heaters we had constant 20-21 degrees celsius, now we have 22-23. You can easily be comfortable inside in T-shirts, it is not cold in here. The warm air rises to our apartment from below, and we have some heating pipes running in the rooms, so even if the radiators are not turned on, they heat up the rooms a little bit. I hope you will have this too, and you don't have to heat up everything and you might save up some money on that too. I wish you the best of luck! ❤🍀 Stay safe, and stay positive! Hey, Long shot but you're not in Wales are you? The law here regarding evictions has just changed so they have to give longer notice than 2 months.

Why are landlords determined to being villains? The amount of stories I hear about landlords out of the blue being like “Oop I want to sell so get out now” is astounding, wishing you all the best! It’ll all turn out fine, waiting for it to become fine is the worst tho
Landlords are the worse
This happened with my SIL with her mom's old place. Her mom passed and the house wasn't being lived in so we moved in because we were in an apartment. We weren't even there a year and had to get kicked out because she wanted to put the place up for offer
This is a policy issue. You can easily sell rented places in other countries (e.g. Germany). Everybody has the right to sell their property, who knows what is going on in the landlords life, but if policy demands you kick out renters beforehand then the policy is evil, not the landlord.
A lot of landlords can't afford the costs either anymore. Taxes constantly increasing, If they have a mortgage on the place then they still have to pay that, even if they barely get enough in rent to cover it. Landlords aren't villains, they are people too.
@@Crazy_Sue No one made them buy property. Renters are the ones paying off the landlords' mortgage.
If you need a place for free boxes, my Dad's trick is to go to a car repair place or a new car lot and ask for the old tire boxes- they are big, usually come with bubble wrap, and the guys there just throw them away so they are usually happy for you to take as many as you want.
A lot of stores give away free used boxes, when I last moved I went to a grocery store and a liquor store and got a ton
Yup! I always go to the grocery store and ask. They’re usually more than happy to give them away- sometimes it helps to find out when they’re going to restock and go then.
@@claressadubs yea, I work at a supermarket and people often ask us for free moving boxes. I'm always happy to give them away as long as they haven't been thrown into the cardboard crusher yet.
Chinese restaurants too. We got all of our boxes from just one 😂
@@claressadubs That's what I've always done when moving, too. Local stores are better for this, I've found out, vs big commercial stores.

I’m so sorry that your home was pulled out from under you :( It really should be illegal to evict people on such a short notice if they’re going to sell the building, especially if there’s a postal strike going on. Landlords really are awful.

Such things as sudden evictions and apartment searching can be really stressful when you suffer from anxiety and panics, so hopefully everything works out smoothly. Still sucks how they handled it so poorly, and the bad luck with the postal strike!

I was evicted in the end of 2020/beginning of 2021 and it was genuinely such an awful experience. I can very sincerely sympathise with what you two are going through, and I’m so sorry. I hope that you both know we’re all thinking of you! And if you need to take a break from videos we’ll be here when you get back. Hope the new year brings you all better luck

As someone who moved in the similar way to Steph growing up, I can appreciate how hard it can seem to leave a place that finally feels secure and 'like home'. I'm so sorry that you're having to go through this right now, especially so close to Christmas, but I really hope that once the stresses of change and moving are over, that maybe this new home can offer you a fresh start in more ways than one? Maybe once you've moved you can open the Amazon list with new homey bits, I'd love to be able to send you both something to add a bit of happy to the space! My father used to make me and my sister go to church, instead we’d go hide at the local library. I’d watch your videos and draw, and you two were the reason I started a sketchbook. How do you know they arent selling the house because relative got ill and NHS cant cover the costs of the treatment? It's easy to assume when you only know one side of the story. Don't do that - you never know what someone else has to go through.
@@Kokose Landlords are the scum of the earth. There is no justification for ripping someone's housing out from underneath their feet.
@@Kokose they are literally removing housing, something that should be a human right, during a tumultuous time of year that should be for rest and celebration. Even if the landlord is going through tough times, which again we do not know that doesn't justify removing housing, shelter a basic human need, from others.
It was only just over a year ago that I was homeless, then my grandma died and I moved back to stay with my parents, then I lost my job, and I'm still here. I'm so sorry you have to go through this. I wish you the best of luck

I'm so sorry to hear this. 💔 Warm wishes to you fellow stranger. I lost my grandpa this year, after falling chronically ill and also having to move back in with my family and having to halt my university studies. It's hard as heck and awful, but like you said we're still here, despite it all. 🙏🏼❤️

My hubby & I in our last rental got broken into & robbed by our landlord & had to leave in the middle of the night, the same night I found my Nana (who I was really close to) dead in her bedroom floor. I lost one of the most important people to me & my house/safety all in one night & life was hell for a while. We slept on a mattress in the floor in a spare bedroom at my grandfathers for over a year while we worked to save money.
I have been an emotional wreck this year because we actually HAVE money & I've been painting our new house & we're about to put up our first Christmas tree together & it's breaking my heart WHILE filling me with joy somehow 😭 I just keep wishing she was here to see where we are now. I wish I could buy her presents to put under my tree.

Shame on him! He couldn't wait till after the holidays?! We had the same thing happen to us two years ago but not at Christmas. We wanted to buy the house we were living in and our landlord decided to divorce her husband and told us she couldn't sell us the house because she needed a place to live. Less than a month after we moved out suddenly (in like a week... we moved in under a week) she listed the house for sale. I wish you both the utmost best and that you end up finding a lovely place. Renting sucks. Love you guys for real.
Also we've been turned down based on our bearded dragons who are in aquariums with no water but they're like "pets damage things"... I mean.. bearded dragons... don't damage. they don't burrow.... And I totally feel you on the book box. I still haven't fully unpacked all my books because I just don't know where to put them lol.
And I also have issues with stairs and hip joint problems and back issues I live in a two-story (which thankfully the staircase isn't too steep at all) and I've been having to go down them at least once a day and we really want to move but we can't afford to because we got this place super cheap and the owners worked with us when my husband was out of work and it's such the absolute worst... God my heart really goes out to you two right now. I'm sending you both all the good vibes and happiness and luck with everything working out.
My family was evicted from our home that I spent most of my life of at the beginning of this year, and for the same reason too, it was one of the most stressful sudden changes we've gone through amidst everything else, and luckily we're ending the year in our new house. It's an unbelievably scary, stressful, terrifying thing to suddenly get evicted with short notice. The timing should be illegal, this is why I hate landlords- why couldn’t they at least wait till your lease is up?

In some country it is illegal ! In France for example, it is. I know because my old landlord wanted to sell and couldn't because of our laws and my lease. The timing was not legal so he was forced to wait three years if I didn't want to leave. It's not normal that it's not the same everywhere ! And that landlords can do that, whenever they want !
We also have what we could translate as "The winter truce" in France. It goes from november 1st to march 31. And a landlord can't evict a tenant during this period.
It should be something everywhere. It's cruel to evict someone at this time, but worst, it's cruel to allow it !!
It’s very common to start with a fixed period, say six months, and thereafter get put on a rolling tenancy. So situations like this happen more often than is ideal. It’s going to happen more and more now as mortgages go up because landlords will either have to raise the rent to cover it, or sell up if prices in their area are destabilising.

I am so genuinely and truely sorry to hear about this guys. It sounds very mushy but you both are truely lights in this world that deserves nothing but goodness. Your videos never fail to make me smile and even laugh even on the darkest days of my life. I've been following you guys for about, God, maybe 5-6 years and I still go back and watch those videos from back then. I'm tight on money myself as it is the holidays but I'm absolutely happy to give back a little to you wonderful people!

oh no.... this must be not only heartbreaking but also a huge stress for you both 💔 I am without an own place for 2 months now, staying with my friend, and it's already a huge stress and exhaustion, while I was the one actually starting the whole process. so I can't imagine how crazy and how tough this must be for you...
btw, an old Polish saying goes sth like: "moving houses twice is your house burning to the ground once". Packing and sorting is also huge work :(

I’d ask your local shops if they have any empty boxes you can have, they’re always getting rid of them and are usually more than happy to give them away.

The current housing market for renters is so evil. The fact that Landlords can harm/ruin their renter's lives with little to no repercussion or without helping their tenants with coping with moving is awful. I wish you guys luck with finding a new place!!

I am so sorry y'all are going through this...The same thing happened to me and my brother. My mother kicked us out and we had to scramble to find a place. i like the fact that you filmed on the bed, its connecting to your viewers, so many of us are not fortunate to have a art/craft room, nor space for a dedicated large table, for many of us all we have is the bed.

This is CRAZY
In France, the landlord cannot evict you before the end of your lease (a lease is typically 3 years renewable automatically) AND they HAVE to give you notice 6 months before, and they can only evict if they want to sell OR move in (I’m oversimplifying but you get the gist)
If they want to sell they HAVE to ask the person renting if they want to buy the place first.
Two months is crazy little time to get a new place. I know people who look for a year or more in some cities here.
I mean, we have 3 months notice, but that's still totally not enough. We were lucky that landlords usually just let us know they had plans for the apartment like half a year in advance, and that eas still not that much time tbh.
And he evicts you on fkn Christmas.

My sister has gone through this too, luckily, she has options, and our cost of living isn't as high as yours. But it initially started with moving out of home into a share house of 3 (herself and a dating couple) which slowly ruined her friendship with them because of how inconsiderate they were, finally resulting in them removing her from the lease with them to make her move out when they got pregnant. She then moved into another share house with 1 roommate and her dog. This also slowly soured with the roommate's lack of cleaning and sharing of gardening/chores until they both got evicted after 3 months because the owner was selling. Now, withing the last month, she moved into her boyfriend share house of 4 and was doing fine, however, just like the last one, the owner has decided to sell, and she is looking for her 4th rental within the past year. Bit insane how unlucky she has been with rentals being sold.

My roommate and I were forced to move quite quickly this time last year as well. On top of all the General Stress of finding a new place, moving in the winter is unfortunately the WORST. But this year we are doing significantly better! Back in 2019 the place we were renting a portion of was about to be foreclosed on. What made matters worse is the landlord not only didn't tell us, but hid the information from us. We found out on accident. Every spring the owner wanted to sell, but never did put the place on the market. Enough was enough! Lucky for us we were able to get a place of our own. The landlord is still there. House hasn't been on the market at all.
God, this same kind of thing happened to my sister and her husband! I just can't imagine doing this to people just because you want more money for rent. It's despicable. I'm so sorry you're in this situation. I've been watching you two for years now and I won't stop supporting you. Sending you love and good tidings

I'm so sorry this is happening to you guys :( I grew up the same way Steph did (hell, I'm still living like that tbh) so I know how hard moving around can be and how no house can really feel like a home sometimes. Hopefully you two wil figure out a good way to make back that money you need and maybe whatever new place you'll get will be better, who's to say. Hope you guys have a good christmas regardless, you'll get through this!!

This whole situation is so lame and I'm so sorry you're having to go through all this, especially at this time of year! Landlords can sell properties to other landlords and transfer tenants - a friend of mine had a house she rented get sold like 3 times while she was living there - it totally could have been an option for your landlord to list the sale like that 😥 I hope everything goes well with the new place!

Tip for boxes! If you guys have rolling suitcases, it's 100000x easier to move them, you can put SOOOO many in. And you can roll them up and down the stairs as well!
