IGN: Genshin Impact is being accused of cultural appropriation.
Gamers: And Assassin's Creed: Shadows?
IGN: ......
AC shadows is even being obvious with its cultural appropriation - theyre using a national treasure of japan as part of their marketing without permission.
Beyond that, AC: shadows focusing on yasukes african american identity as a character trait is such a crazy thing to see.

I don't even like the game but with how the fanbase acts, it almost makes me wanna defend the company lol. they are bonkers.
I, and many others are a part of these cultures fighting for representation. All we want is more diversity, it’s not that much to ask for. Imagine a company using your culture for money and entertainment and they cant even represent your indigenous people correctly. staying away from twitter/reddit period is probably best for anyone's mental health.
staying out off those platforms is generally a good decision to make.
yeah man I agree I also have tried to stay away from the fandom but sometimes you just come across it and its just terrible because if I tell others I play genshin they might think of me as one of these weirdos
Agreed really the only place that I can find normal genshin fans is here on UA-cam as most of the people that I watch either don't talk about this sort of stuff at all or they said their opinion once or twice but don't act like it's the end of the world
Reddit is fine, it's just twitter that's toxic
I saw a post on Twitter from Sucrose’s VA talking about the character Ororun and the Nigerian deity he is based on saying something akin to: “A quick Google search will show what a great job Smite did at interpreting this God” and “It’s unforgivable what Hoyo did”
I did a Google search on that deity, Olorun, too and found that according to Yoruba theology the deity (keyword here) Olorun is formless. The Yoruba people never depicted their deity as being a specific gender, race or even having a humanoid form, rather it seems to be a deity that speaks through certain designated vessels. Seeing that Smite depicted Olorun as being a God that resembles the people of Nigeria is a logical design choice, however to say that form is “canonical” for a formless deity is pure opinion, not fact.
I did the same thing quick google search and it says that Olorun has no form and the Google search i did also said that olorun represents all that is white like bones, clouds and according to some, brains
okay, but genshin is giving the god a form, they aren’t being realistic so if they aren’t going to stick true to the nature of the god, then why not at least represent the people the god was written about? because if the yoruba people were to give olorun a form, he wouldn’t be a skinny white man
but genshin isn’t being realistic in the sense they are making him formless, they’re making him a humanoid playable character… if a character is meant to be a humanoid version of a yoruba god, why is he white??

It's really not. But for gameplay reasons, not these "reasons"
As someone who plays genshin rarely the more i progress. I can understand
No it is not. It's a terrible game. With a highly overrated stretched out story. An open world with absolutely nothing meaningful to do in it. No endgame whatsoever. A lot of western players seem to forget that Hoyoverse is a Chinese game company. It’s just that black/poc characters don’t sell well in the Chinese fan-base and don’t forget that China and Japan are the top spenders for Hoyoverse ;America being around third.
Another thing people tend to forget that the characters don’t exist. They are not real, they may be loosely based on real figures, but aren’t an exact 1 to 1 copy. Just because the people don’t get what they want doesn’t mean they should start review botting the game with 1 star reviews in hopes of getting what they desire. Hoyoverse can do whatever they see fit for their game and characters.
People are more concerned of the skin color of the characters they want to pull than the actual plot of the story and its development. 🤦

Yes, there are many Chinese and Japanese players. But if it was “just that” they wanted to cater towards them, they would not have put in the effort to represent so well, the people of mondstat and Fontaine! The truth is this. They like white skin! Also, many Chinese players were confused as well! Also just putting “American being around third” does not help your case. America is diverse. And many people across all cultures play this game. The characters and nations may not be real, but the blatant colorism is definitely real. This is why people are mad. And as a player, the people who actually GIVE Genshin their success, they have every right to be.
@@SecondTimesACharm-g4b no, they really don't have any right at all to be upset. Especially when they can't even see their obsession with race and racism. It isn't just that there are "many Chinese and Japanese players." Genshin Impact is a game made in Asia, FOR Asians. Even if every single player outside of Asia stopped playing Hoyoverse games, hoyo would continue to rake in tons of money. We are not the target audience. To behave like we have any rights at all to be pandered to is the epitome of American ignorance and arrogance. Especially since ya'lls have no problems when the reverse is happening and Asian culture is being black washed. So it's fine when Ubisoft attempts to alter real world history in a disrespectful way because they painted a black man as a hero, but you bully hoyo for not being inclusive enough. Get real. And Teyvat is a fantasy realm that is not beholden to its real world inspirations. You're right, they do like pale skin in Asia. But that isn't because of racism, or colorism. It's because of CLASSISM. Historically speaking, pale skin has been seen across many cultures as beautiful because it meant that you were wealthy enough to stay inside. Last, but not least, the majority of people complaining about Genshin do NOT, in fact, pay for the game in any way. If dark skinned characters sold well, then of course Hoyo would push dark skinned characters. They make what sells. And anyone who doesn't spend real world money on Genshin has literally ZERO right to make any kind of demands or have any kind of expectations. As someone who is actually Indigenous, we don't claim these people and we don't need them to white knight for us. I'll be pulling for as many of the Natlan characters as I can.
Fr bruh, like just cuz I’m indigenous doesn’t mean I’m brown or dark skinned.
As a brown person, wanting the Asian devs, in an Asian country, who makes characters to represent themselves and their people to look like me just because they've referenced some different cultures, without claiming to be 100% accurate is just ridiculous. Also anime characters tend to be pale skin and that's okay if they mostly are. It's anime characters for crying out loud, they're being made by Asian people who are pale skin people but then again, Twitter calls Asian people "white adjacent".
@@Veslelia_cw You need to watch more anime if you think they are incapable of making native characters that look native. Shaman King, Seven Cities of Gold, lots of good classic anime which are respectful.
They really lost the right to say "who cares about a fictional character's skin color" during discourse over raceswapping into a darker race.
This act against Genshin Impact is most likely a distraction drawing gamers' attention from Assassin's Creed Shadow. And that thousands of signatures are probably just dummy accounts. If Likes of a video can be paid and bought, why not these signatures?
most of those signatures are bots being used to inflate numbers, which is why petition sites can't be trusted.
I am all for more dark skin girls in genshin because more hot girls is never bad. This protest though will amount to nothing.
Deyha and xingyan are some of my favorite character designs. I'm also big nagatoro lover, but these people want the characters to be dark skinned because they reference culture without trying to be 100% accurate. Therefore, it's somehow whitewashing to these people and it's just so pathetic. Original character designs and personalities is now whitewashing 🤦🏽♂️
"we want more representation in a fictional cartoonish dream like setting that is based on nothing that actually exists"
wtf?
B-But but you don't understand, it references some African cultures to add a theme to their fictional setting. So it MUST include dark skinned characters to go along with it, otherwise that's "whitewashing" and "culture appropriation".
These are real people in our society btw.
It's based on cultures around the world
"Nothing that actually exists" Natlan = Aztlan, name of the Aztec homeland. The names of the characters come from an Inca god, a Hopi god, an Aztec god, a Mayan god, a Nigerian god. How would you feel if they announced Nalhala, with Thor as a character, then reveal a black woman named Thor.
@@incaboo6876 "d. How would you feel if they announced Nalhala, with Thor as a character, then reveal a black woman named Thor."
hasnt the west done that already? Isnt the viking show about a black woman and then of course you got black woman in hades 2 which is in greek setting. Hell overwatch 2 does not even have a greek character to go with the map.
@@Veslelia_cw not one of these people has anything to say about the vikings show having a black woman leader, the hades 2 having a black woman when its set in ancient greek mythology and the new asscreed game.
as a part of the genshin community, I can confirm that the ones whining about Natlan, aren't ACTUALLY a part of the community.
They toxic community
These people need to realized that it’s a fictional game. Of a fictional region. Genshin isn’t real life. It has inspiration from real countries and stuff, but this is literally a world filled with magic, gods and bullshit other things.
Call your local politician will never not be funny to me. Wtf are they going to do? It’s a Chinese company, they’re not gonna do shit unless it pertains the attention of the Chinese government, and what they’re doing isn’t against any law. The characters in Natlan is their property, they can do whatever the heck they want with them as long it doesn’t cross the law in China.
How would you feel if they made a fictional world about us slavery but race swap black people for whites? And if anyone ever said anything just hide behind "it's a fictional story bro. With liberties taken from the real world".
Twitter people: Why are they white when my head cannon is that every new character needs to be black
Any sane person: These new characters look really good, and they are quite cute
Sane people: anime characters usually are pale skin, especially when made by Asian devs, in Asian countries. They're making characters that represents themselves, so they aren't obligated to make the characters dark skinned just because they've referenced some different cultures for a FICTIONAL setting.
To counter the boycott/review bomb:
- Rate the game 5 stars
- Downvote and flag all the 1 star reviews involved in the review bomb
>rate genshit 5 stars
This is an op
u reallty think all 1000 wokies that actually play the game would matter in the grand scheme of reviews?
Now now, I am not rating Genshin 5 stars, fuck that. Hoyo can deal with these people themselves, they get boycotted every month, it is fine.
Why should u counter it? Just leave it
The worst enemies of american woke twitter users, are the cultures they ought to defend XD
Basically most of latin community think this boycott is BS and are happy with the cultural references and music of the region.
And at the same time... Japanese audience is destroying the new Assassin Creed game, double K.O. for woke community.
So woke feel entitled but they lose everthing. Hahaha. They just people doesnt learn any education, ony about gender.
Sounds akin to the whole Hogwarts Legacy boycott thing. Where that game absolutely crushed sales.
I think the only thing worse than all the harassment over this is the fact that the internet is so braindead they believe Yasuke is an Ubisoft original character meant entirely for inserting diversity into a game set in Japan, when in fact one of the things Japanese hate the most is how a historical character that is actually loved was changed from a retainer of Nobunaga to be a samurai that goes around in full armor killing farmers.
Let me repeat. The internet is so braindead and Ubi fucked up their own necessity to find a diverse character among Japan so bad that people think Yasuke is just an Ubi OC now
Was he even "loved"? From what I've seen from the japanese, they mostly don't know or care about Yasuke. Dude's literally a historical footnote and got fanfic-ed by a white guy.
no one on the interest believe yasuke is made up. everyone complain about it because yasuke is not a samurai.
