Hockey refs are on skates to keep up with the action, Uniball refs should be on unicycles for vantage point purposes. And entertainment. Ok, purely entertainment.
We all agree but it’s hard enough to find refs for traditional sports. I don’t think we need to limit ourselves to refs who can also unicycle and/or walk on stilts.
I’m the guy in the Pink helmet! 🏀And my dad filmed the original unicycle basketball video. Super cool to see Unicycle Basketball on here! I am really glad you’re sharing about the awesome niche sports around the world! 😀 This was at the Unicycling World Championships, that’s why we had such unbalanced teams. The sport is surprisingly competitive, and there were some extremely close games for Team Swish at this tournament. I think you might enjoy looking at the game between Swish vs Cycl'as (ua-cam.com/video/hcY4TI8DQME/v-deo.html) or Swish vs Mono'Gre (ua-cam.com/video/-Lnot1-s6Ks/v-deo.html)! I have videos of all the Swish games :) Feel free to ask any questions!
TIL: A dropped-ball is an official FIFA rule used to restart a match when play was stopped for some reason other than game play. The last team in possession of the ball (last touch) gets to kick it. I've been watching soccer for a long time and never seen it! (For a sec I thought it was some weird American thing.)
Here in South America, we see a lot of drop ball because our teams divide the ball a lot. With that said, I never seen a team in the offense take use of this rule, usually, like a courtesy, they kick to the sideline or to the other team's defense.
It's becoming more common because head injuries are almost automatic stoppage of the game and a drop ball. Also its now a rule that when the referee touches the ball its a drop ball. But this was a weird play for sure and totally on the ref who should have either whistled way earlier or later. Never actually seen the drop ball being used to send it directly into the box. But its also not usual for the drop ball to be in that position.
Correct. Usually in this kind of situation (being in such an attacking position) the defending team would usually kick the ball away from goal to return possession to the attacking team (GK or defenders). However this is not a rule and what happened here was perfectly legal. Unsportsmanlike, but legal. The rule being, no player can touch the ball until it has made contact with the ground, hence "drop ball" ua-cam.com/video/6dHVtqMl0Xg/v-deo.html - Decent example of how this should happen and why it rarely works out.
@@gavindawson3108 No, the rules changed the referee now drops the ball for the team that was in possession. You can even see he marked the distance the opposing team has to be from the drop ball.
Jimmy’s a little misinformed on the disc golf clip: Calloway only had one ace. That basket was aced twice that tournament though-Sarah Hokum also sunk one there. Also, Calloway didn’t finish 43rd, he finished 11th.
First time I've been AT a thing you missed! That Lou City goal was insane, the refs are terrible in that league which leads to bizarre situations like that sometimes. Incredible heads-up play by Totsch on that ball in front of the goal!
Isn't it apropos that Sac's #9 Herrera, who used his right arm to push Lou's #2 McFadden on the jump ball collision, is the same player who blew his defensive assignment and let his man get free which led to the game-losing goal for Sacramento.
That's great to hear. We've got Real Salt Lake in MLS and Real Monarchs in USL, but I've never made it to a Monarchs game to check out the atmosphere. I've had RSL season tickets for many years and often wonder about the attendance and support of USL clubs.
Love the inclusion of the Jomez coverage! I think Ben Callaway might have aced the hole in competition previously??? I know I've seen it aced before! Super Rad!
Yeah, brutal miss for Danny. He's the reigning Goalkeeper of the year, and looks to be the favorite for it again this year, but totally blew the read on this one.
Team Swish needs to take the game to Japan! Most Japanese elementary schools teach unicycle riding in PE class. So there's actually a much higher percentage of Japanese people who can ride unicycles compared to America. Of course a lot of adults probably forgot how to ride a unicycle by then. But there would be a higher percentage of them who can. Plus they could also bring the game to elementary schools directly and play with the kids there. As long as they can stop themselves from dominating 100-18 lol.
I was thinking in my head is this guy trolling… then I took some time to take my head out of my ass because I love sumo wrestling 😂 people like what they like.
Here’s some insight to Ben Callaway’s throw: Ben’s drive was what’s called a hyzer flip. That specific disc is under stable, meaning when thrown the disc will naturally fly to the right if you’re a right-handed player, and left for a lefty. Very standard stuff for us disc golfers. But for those who don’t follow it can surely look like a strange reaction when watching someone throw like Ben did.

It is pretty clear the outfielder, Martinez (in the opening clip), dropped the ball when he hit the ground, he then looks up to see the umpire isn't there and scrambles to pick up the ball. He gets the ball in his glove and then raises it just as the umpire arrives. You can't see the ball at all in this angle, just the players body language gives it away, but you can see some of the players react to the drop and then change to celebration at the out...
I frame by framed it (pause video, use "," and "." to go back and forward) and he did initially catch it, but it must have been dislodged when he flipped over the fence.
Hey, I can ride a unicycle and I can play basketball. I think I may just found my only plausible way into a top 10 ranking in sports (unless it is way more competitive than it looks).

Also, that Newport highlight looked to be at Cardines Field, which is believed by some to be the oldest still used field in the US. Definitely worth checking out a game there if you’re in the New England area
@ProToolsApproved Look at the teammates reaction behind him and tell me you still think he caught it. Dude literally goes from both hands up in celebration, to both hands on his head with a 'awww fuck' expression, then to one hand celebrating after the ump calls out.
Jimmy, did you realize that Dixon Williams is the same player that stole home for East Carolina and had his shirt ripped off? You’re welcome to join the ECU baseball fanbase next season! It feels natural!
lol the guy in the opening clip dropped the ball but the little wall and pole blocked it from view. You can see him reach done with his glove and pick it up before the Ump got there.
Not only that what is more telling is the guy behind him has his hands up in celebration but then drops them on his head with the classic 'oh fuck' look on his face. I had the rewind it a bunch of times but the timing of it all is very telling.
Finally, someone figured out how to fix basketball. NBA's got nothing on those folks. Now we need a National Unicycle Basketball Association so they can go pro. I'd much rather watch that than NBA.
