I made a lightsaber from recycled materials, sheet metal, plumbing and electrical parts, and metal wire, but it helped having all the tools I already owned. It turned out looking very industrial and worn. It's heavy too. I built it so it would have room for a crystal chamber and other compartments (not a 3D printed one, but some quartz). It turned out great. Just need to polish it with a buffing wheel to give it a nice shiny finish. Making more now to sell to a couple friends who loved it.
I love these SLA resin tank printers and their high resolution. The Form Labs 2 has a layer thickness as thin as 1 thou. Expensive and smaller build volumes, but they make standard FDM printers look like a machine squirting toothpaste.
every time i see a build vid from tested without Adam in it i skip right to the end to see if they go all "Welp we got one part glued on, if you want to see the rest give us money" Adam Savage stuff is the only reason im subscribed.
I have a $300 PLA printer and I'm pretty sure that, even with careful settings, I won't get either as crisp details or clear crystal/gem. There's details on there that I know won't be able to be printed, like the parallel tubes on the central part (or they will be covered by the supports' flashs). I love this model and it's beautifully designed, props to Sean - but this is like advertising exotic cars to college students. That's clearly out of range. I'll give it a go, but that will be just out of curiosity.
@@okayboomer7546 woah man, my reply was from four years ago... 😅 I have another printer now, an Alfawise U20. A killer machine that can put out extremely detailled prints. :)

But you can't get mad when George Lucas says laser sword and he has said it so that guy was and wasn't in the wrong but me being the star wars nerd I am cannot accept lightsaber being mis-pronounced as lazer sword.
Actually Orthanc (Saruman's tower) isn't one of the two towers. The two towers that Tolkein meant were Minas Ithil, which is now known as Minas Morgul, and Barad Dûr (Sauron's tower)
I've been looking at a lot of lightsaber designs over the last month. Being able to bludgeon them to death with the hilt is a classic feature of Sith lightsabers. Not casting aspersions, just sayin'. I'm very fond of Ashoka's new ones, and Rham Kota's. (very understated)
Try www.shapeways.com You can send them files and have them professionally printed and cleaned. Depending on the material it can be pretty expensive, though.
what kind of electronic parts do you use. I am currently making at school and I need to make sure they have the electronic parts. Also, is the flex like a type of print?
Have you tried printing this using an FDM printer and if so, were you able to get close to the same fit and tolerances as the SLA? Would love to print one of these out on my modified Prusa I3. I do have a question regarding the electronics for this. You didn't specify anywhere during your discussion on the electronics portion of the build about using a resistor on the LED. Are you using one? In my experience, using an LED without a resistor, even if the voltage of the battery is basically the same as the LED's nominal voltage, will result in premature failure of the LED. Even a small value resistor (0.5 ohm) will be enough to protect the LED. I would hate to have to take everything apart later on in order to replace the LED just because a resistor wasn't used.
Finally purchased a 3D printer after wanting one for 10 years. This was the first thing that came to mind i wanted to print after setup, however the file link seems to be broken. Can we have a new one or can some one direct me to where I can get the files?
