I've been lucky enough to ride the KTM Superduke GT for a couple of weeks and cover a few thousand miles. After my initial thoughts vid - link available below, I've had a chance to get to know this insane machine, so here are my thoughts.

Enjoyed a lot this video. Thank you for that. Due to the free and honest opinion, and views of the subject. You also summarized very well the diferences between this GT and the BMW GS 1200 R or 1250 R, and I think you’re full of reason about the general matters involved. I subscribed the channel and hope you keep up doing this well thought and useful videos👏👏👏

A great real world review that should help anyone considering either bike. On a similar sort of theme when I changed my previous GS for a new one the salesman said they had a few customers who changed from a GS to a S1000XR only to change back to a GS as once the honeymoon period was over they decided they preferred the GS which was good for the dealer but not the customers bank balance. However he said that in contrast XR riders didn't swap to a GS so the different AV bikes available don't necessarily suit everyone and it's expensive if you get it wrong.

Another great vid Bruce. I think it's only natural you compare your current bike to the one your testing, because it's your reference point. I found myself comparing my GS to the S1000RR M-Package at times.

Nice to see a video that presents the pros and cons..proper journalism. I was considering a Super Duke but find it lacking in wind protection. Also, it seemed geared very tall..4th or maybe 5th felt good at paralegal highway speeds..6th for the autobahn, but I live in Canada..read..short summers and restrictive speed limits

Great Video!, and I agree with you:). I own a GT and a 1250 GS. If you like traveling very long distances with or without a Missy, the GS is indeed the bike to go, If you like sport and being a hooligan, and do not like to be folded up on a superbike, then the GT is your tool. The only thing I do not like about the GS is that it starts to pump in long speedy corners (+160 km/h), the KTM is more stable at those speeds.
However, do not get me wrong both bikes are good tools to slide your knee in low-speed (80-90 km/h) switchbacks in the German Eifel region, although you would not expect that from a GS, the KTM needs more hanging-off to achieve that, once the speed goes up, it's all GT terrain. Once again good honest review.

Not sure why you'd compare the GS to the GT.. not the same class of bike. However, nice review.
I've got a GT and love it, the quickshifter, I find is best when you want to shift quickly, i.e accelerating and its very 'user sensitive'. If you are positive with your upshift, it works fine, any wafty foot movement and the quickshifter can get clunky.
I'm not sure I agree with the steering lock/ restriction comment but then I dont go as squeaky close to traffic as perhaps I saw you do in the vid. (a definite confidence thing on my part)
And WTF are you doing jetwashing a motorbike??
edit: not true about the basic price, quickshifter and heated grips are standard.

Yeah seems I got the wrong end of the stick when briefed about the different ‘packages’, my apologies, I’ll make a correction on the vid👍
Reason I compared the GT to the GS is because it’s practically the first question I’m asked whenever I review ANY bike tbh!

Driven the Superduke GT from Leuven (Belgium) to Tignes (french Alps) in one go (1000+ km), during 2/2019 (to go skiing). Found the bike comfortable, and very stable. When there is a lot of rain and heavy winds this bike is far more stable then a GS, especially when driving next to lorries.

    • @teapotone

@@teapotoneWe will have to agree to disagree then. When I am on the highway to Brussels in morning traffic there are situations where I would not dare to drive close to a lorry with the GS. Problem is the moment you are actually not shielded anymore from the wind (by the lorry). There is pull at that moment towards the lorry. In my opinion, the GT is far less bothered by that then the GS. Especially if the wind is coming from the side. Each there preference :-)

I keep my 2017 GT in Sport for the engine and Street suspension until I get to the fun roads and the speeds increase, then Sport firms it up and since it's ECU update it just rides superb. A friend was out on his GSXR 1000 last week and things got interesting, at the end of it he was crippled from his riding position, I was fresh as a daisy and the GT has matched or even beaten the Gixer (stomping out of slow corners but we kept a cap on top speeds) while also being a much better cruiser for when you just have to cover the miles on less fun roads.
It sounds like you need to try one with the powerparts seats, mine has them and the other week I was reminded about a bit of physics with goretex in torrential rain. My arse got cold, turned heated seat on, warm arse then wet arse... Water vapour goes from hot to cold through goretex and the seat was steaming when I got off...
I still want a go on the BMW R1250RS, but it will have to be insanely good to replace the big GT.

Do you mean the ‘Track Pack’ - part of the KTM powerparts range? If so I don’t actually know, you’d need to contact your dealership and find out what they’ll charge as it’ll require their labour charge on top to fit it - unless you can do that yourself.

For my sins drive a lowly Corsa costing a paltry 13k in which I get air con..heated seats...heated steering wheel...cruise control.. variable power steering not forgetting, radio, CD player, bluetooth phone connection, around 48 to the gallon runs as smooth as butter at any speed in any gear and all my buttons are also backlit ! I started riding bikes when i was 16 and I still enjoy riding my bike at the age of 68. And in all those years I've never understood why the biking feternatiy excepts and puts up with these outrageous prices. No wonder one the best selling motorcycle in the UK at moment is a £5,500 Royal Enfield a brilliant back to basics bike. You only have to watch UA-cam vloogger Itchy Boots to see you don't to sell a kidney to buy a very costly adv bike to ride the world. 👍

I find tire pressure on the GT is key. It felt mushy to me with stock pressures but get em up to 40lbs and it handles tremendously. I agree that the GS for every day may be better when considering comfort but you are exactly correct when you say there is no comparison when it comes to fun factor. I would have to differ in my final opinion though. I have had several GS's and just find I lose my enthusiasm for them pretty quickly due to the their sterile nature. All KTM's are simply fun to ride. Out of left field though, for pure comfort and fun and for long distance everything.....I prefer my Harley Road Glide Special.

@@teapotone So I ended up selling my GT, I enjoyed it but I bought an MT10, put on some bags and find it much easier to ride and frankly better all the way around. On another note, I used to own a 2006 GS Adventure and I absolutely hated it....fast forward and I ended up buying the 40th anniversary R1250GS and it could not be any more different than the 2006. The 1250 is amazing, the torque is insane, handling comfort, tech and all around there is no better machine. Fast forward even further and I bought a Super Duke EVO. Yes, far too many bikes or is that possible? The EVO is, IMHO, THE best naked on the market and that is after riding the V4S, Tuono and Speed Triple RS. I actually find I like the MT10 equally to the new SD but the SD is far more feature packed. Love your vids and I am glad you are sticking with it!!

KTM is running killer deals in the US at the moment...I have a 2016 S1000XR that I ride in Los Angeles traffic commuting mostly on the free ways. About 3 years worth and I am working on trading it in next week for a SDGT. I love the XR...traded a VFR800 that I had 75k miles on, for the XR and its been lovely. It’s stupid fast, (gave me my first infraction in awhile racing (and beating) my buddies RR), its comfortable 1 and 2 up. The suspension is excellent, plush on the freeway and good enough to scare in the local canyons. The one thing its missing...the character of the VFR or some of the other bikes I ride. I love the XR for what it does, but for me some of the experience is missing (I think its the 4-cylinder sound). That being said...it looks like it might be a bit more agile in traffic than the GT. If I remember, I will update this later this week if I get the GT and let you know.

After all bike from day one pull to left so counterstering need be apply daily. Mind you I use it as daily drive and done already 20000 miles. Bmw owners are like Harley owners they will always be protective to they motorbike company even when you see the same faces in service for repairs, The conversation with them is silly as they never admit it’s not reliable bikes.... So if you think about bmw buy new one to cover this repairs on warranty. I had before yamaha and have not been in service more than for just oil change and mind you it was they big twin 1800 air cooled covering yer by year Europe on it and 60000 miles. Not a bit repair done apart usual oil chane and belt tension after 30000 miles. But give to k1600 - is a arm chair with steroids and can easily left sports bikes behind with comfort. It’s very very easy to drive and flick like a dream that is why I keep it until warranty go......and then back to jap bikes for they reliability so I can left those posh snobs in service lol... Got to be honest here Adrian, I didn’t properly spank the GT for any prolonged period of time due to what I was going through at my previous work at the time.
I gave the SA a proper hammering and it was fairly wobbly at very high speeds, but I’ve since found out that was the tyres. Change them to road tyres and it fixes the speed wobble.

I have road and club raced at a decent level for a lot of years so not unfamiliar with suspension issues and have struggled with lots of bikes tbh
