This was the most positive video about cheap watercolour paper I have ever seen.
When you are a true beginner, meaning you don’t have experience doing any art, expensive paper will not magically give you the talent.
You just need to understand your supplies an what they can do.

Absolutely. Anything can be done as long as you know what you're working with. Much like in life 😅

Fabriano, I declare is suspiciously similar to Artist Loft 2. 😅 (both made in Italy) As for pulp paper, just wet both sides before using, (it’s wood), and it will perform great. Besides as a newbie, one needs to learn water control, etc. Also you can keep warping down a bit by not painting near the edges of the paper (that includes the very top and bottom)
    It’s not “cheap” it’s less expensive. 😊
I agree wholeheartedly with you about expensive paper. It isn’t best for practice. Why? Because no one new is going to “practice” much if the paper is costly. Afraid to use the paper. Plus 12-18 yr olds don’t all have parents that can afford to resupply expensive “practice” paper. (Art isn’t just for adults with jobs). So we need good practical paper to we aren’t afraid to doodle or simply paint a bunch of squares or flower petals on.
    Nice comparison, thank you.
Ps I actually love that Masters Choice WC paper from Hobby Lobby. 😂😂😂

Absolutely, less expensive is the right term 😁 I'll have to try wetting it, thank you for letting me know.

TBH if you can get Baohong--either grade--there's no reason to do cheap cellulose unless you specifically love the paper for some reason (I love Blick Studio Watercolor Paper because it's cheap for big pads and it's great for figure drawing).

Thank You for this 'show and tell'. Love it since I just received 3 pads of Fabriano. Now to get painting on it. This is going to take practice but it's well worth it since I've got some really cheap watercolor paper and most results were disastrous. And learning what size brush to use so you don't soak the paper too much has been a challenge. I love watercoloring so much so I have to keep going up in price for better paper later. This is going to be a test for me, but it's worth it!!!

You could do worse than Fabrianno, it's probably my favourite among low cost paper. Having said that you will notice a major major difference when you try 100%cotton paper. Academy from Baohong is inexpensive and very good. In watercolor I'm finding the paper is probably the element that makes the most difference. Having said that, getting to paint and practice is absolutely the most important thing you can do to improve. Happy painting!! 😁🎨

Hi guys! It's so hot over here! I was melting under these lights... I think it shows! hehehe
Keeping up with the watercolor paper theme, I wanted to talk about some of the budget watercolor papers I started out with that I think are great options for beginner watercolor artists.
And, of course, I'd love to know your opinion on budget watercolor paper, what's the best one for you? Also, have you tried any of these? Do you agree with my conclusions? Let me know all about it, I really love knowing about what you do and your favorite watercolor tools. Enjoy!

Love the topic and all the different ways you compared the papers. But just so you know, in my (nice, over-ear) headphones your music is louder than your voice... the music drowns you out. Might want to check your sound mix in headphones as well as speakers for future videos.

Patty-I agree with you about being conscious of the cost while you are painting. I started out with Strathmore and didn't worry about the cost. I actually had some great results. I am a Fabriano fan. 👍🏽

There's so many Fabriano options I need to try. What are your favourites?

Patty-Currently, I have the 1264 pad , 100% Cotton, which I love for practice and final pieces and th Artistico Block. This is new for me, but I am exploring it. Crystal Tan reviewed Fabriano Artistico vs Arches and preferred Fabriano. Very enlightening video. I am currently experimenting with a paper called Leyton. Nice so far. I'm not finished with the experimenting yet. 🙂

canson xl has 0 cotton, if paper has cotton, be sure they'll put that on cover :)
