    Hi, I have a Musa Basjoo plant that I have in a pot for 2 years, I'm in 6b, Pa. When should I plant it outside and should I put it outside to get it use to being out rather than inside? Thank you! Great video!

    Hi,I have a question for you.
    Can any banana grow in Massachusetts?

    • @JoshuasGarden
      @JoshuasGarden  3 роки тому +3

      The only type of banana plant that can grow in Massachusetts is the Musa Basjoo variety. That can survive down to a zone 4 with proper mulching. All other banana plants are more tropical and typically can survive down to zones 8-10. If you put in your zip code and “USDA growing zone” you should be able to find out your growing zone. If you’d like to have other varieties of bananas that actually produce edible bananas you can treat them as a tropical houseplant: outside for the summer and then inside when it gets below 50 or so at night. Hope this helps!

    How did it survive over the winter? What exactly did you do that worked well/didn't work well?

    • @JoshuasGarden
      @JoshuasGarden  3 роки тому +2

      They survived pretty well! I have some update videos in this playlist if you'd like a visual on the plants, but they grew much bigger this year!

      I was at one of my local garden centers the other day and I saw a hardy orange tree!! I might have to pick that up...

      Probably the wild citrus or the hybrid cross with grape,keep it up💪keep working your videos you got potential, and also is one guy for new jerseys that we can learn a lot,he transform his backyard into a forest.

    • @JoshuasGarden
      @JoshuasGarden  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks! It’s super helpful to hear that. I have the botanical name of the orange, it’s called poncirus trifoliata. And I think I know who you are talking about but if you could link his channel I’ll give it a look!

    • @gregschwedes3002
      @gregschwedes3002 3 роки тому

      @@JoshuasGarden The trifolias are ornamental. They are very bitter, and are used mostly as root stock to make certain citrus varieties more cold hardy.

    • @JoshuasGarden
      @JoshuasGarden  3 роки тому

      Does that mean the fruit from the grafted portion will be bitter? Or will the oranges grow normally and be edible?

    • @mihailmihaylov3631
      @mihailmihaylov3631 2 роки тому

      @@JoshuasGarden That’s even more colder than Long Island . I used to live in MA and I know the climate there.
      I have a summer house in PA zip code18324
      I expect that we have absolutely the same climate.
      Do you know from where I can order the banana that you recommend?
      Also have you been thinking about building a room with glasses for example, for the winter?
      I am very excited about those trees. I was for more than a week in FL and now I am on the way back to NYC……
      Good luck

    • @JoshuasGarden
      @JoshuasGarden  2 роки тому

      @@mihailmihaylov3631 I believe I ordered it from one of those seed catalogues, maybe Burgess. However, I know that Logee’s Greenhouses has a website (and UA-cam Channel!) Where they ship out exotic plants. You could look on their website, and they’re in Connecticut so if you’re not too far away you should check them out!!

    Hello! How often do you put the nitrogen down? Is that the fertilizer or do you also fertilize the plants?

    • @JoshuasGarden
      @JoshuasGarden  2 роки тому +1

      I honestly haven’t put any nitrogen down, but now that they have been in the ground for a couple of years it is definitely something I will look more into
