I have the 392 Scatpack and it is an amazing motor. Until these dealerships quit charging 20g over list I won’t be buying one. When I find one for list I will buy it. Might be awhile considering they can’t keep them on the lot.

@@joebartlett3255 that’s laughable. Mine easily stays in 8th gear and easily can pass and accelerate. Most of the time it keeps the RPM under 2,500 rpm. 8th gear @ 70mph = 2k rpm. @@joebartlett3255 that’s a joke. That engine can’t power my mother in laws scooter. Pentastar easily cruises under 2k rpm in 8th gear. My brother in laws YJ can’t even do 70mph sustained without overheating and has way less torque at the wheels.
Carlos obviously the 392 is silly fun in this thing. But I can’t help but think that the 5.7 might have been a more practical idea. You would get better fuel economy and could slot it in between price wise while still having a very quick jeep with v8 sound. Did they explain to you at all why they choose to go straight to the 6.4. At a 30k premium that might be a hard stretch?
I agree about the price should probably be more like 50-60k price range to me but all Jeep's are a little overpriced. The 6.4 and 5.7 are actually pretty close efficiency wise during normal driving though. If you look at a charger for example the 5.7 is only rated 1 mpg better than a Scatpack.
@@jizzyjake6783 the larger point is that the 5.7 as a hypothetical 7500 to 10000 dollar option on a rubicon could be the Jeep’s version of the scat pack engine upgrade. You could get 90% of the experience at a much cheaper price with the added bonus of minor fuel efficiency.
@@mvp1431 yeah it would be a nice option but I think they just had a certain price target as a high end model and the 6.4l could justify it more than the 5.7. I've never really been into Jeep's but if they offered this in a trim for 50-60k I would be intrigued.
there were v8 jeeps on the cj jeeps back in the day. it wasnt meant to be a racing jeep. its about having the power even if you dont need it. the sound, the feel, and then knowing its there if you ever need it. to drive a jeep wrangler fast is missing the point
Edmund obviously hasn't watch any other videos on UA-cam because the aftermarket scene has been doing hemi swapps for years and asking for a stock V8 option
I can pick up a diesel Rubicon - only 270hp, but 440 lb-ft of torque at 1400rpms - for 25k less. Seems like that would be more valuable to someone who actually off-roads. The 392 feels like something people will buy and try not to get scratched. But... to each his own.
Diesel torque requires a fully spooled turbo, so it typically has less torque and taller gearing than the pentastar. You can supercharge the Penta to 440hp easily though for $7k.
@@KTMcaptain I don't understand. I'm not an expert by any means, but if the torque curve reads 440@1400, that's what it reads. What difference would the spool time of the turbo make?
@@jackcasse It’s harder to modulate torque when it lags and you have to stay on throttle to keep torque up. Also, diesels have taller gearing so they transfer less torque to the wheels. You can literally lose momentum waiting on the turbo boost trying to get over an obstacle.
He did say “most” full size. The 6.4 is in the 2500 Ram, the 7.3 / 6.0 (isn’t the 6.6 a diesel?) aren’t in trucks that are the big sellers. Ford sells more 5.0 and Chevy 5.3, trucks than their larger counterparts. That said, I thought the same thing :).

But why is it so Over Priced? Starting price over $75,000. You can get the same awesome 6.4 Hemi motor in a brand new Challenger Scat Pack or in a Charger starting at $40,000 ($35,000 Less)
Because the hellcat is too much and the 5.7 is too little. At this price range it has to be exciting. A 5.7 would be fun but nobody would pay around 70k for one in a jeep. A hellcat would destroy the stock drivetrain components. 392 is the sweet spot.
