    On K-Jetronic Downdraft-flow design of the air-flow sensor. If the sensor plate is positioned too high, an adjustment can be made. To do this, drive the guide pin for the leaf-spring-stop deeper (as mentioned on this video ) using an appropriate size pin punch and a light hammer. CAUTION: Make this adjustment very carefully so that the guide pin is not driven in too far. Be absolutely sure to avoid repeated adjustments in both directions because this can loosen the press fit of the pin. A serious engine damage can result if this pin should fall out. I hope this friendly reminder helps. I am a big fan of this channel. Very technical and informative in many ways. All the best, cheers!!!

    I took your advice and adjusted the throttle plate via vacuum gauge on my 80K mile 1990 300Sl. I used a port right behind the TB that goes down to the trans modulator I believe. Car has never run smoother and more responsive in the 8 years I've owned it. Freakin amazing. I haven't even checked the duty cycle because if it runs this good who cares what numbers are on a meter. Thanks alot. Smoothest idle I've ever had and power right off idle and through the rpm range.

    Remember doing this in 2004 when there was no UA-cam and there was just common sense. Got the idle speed down to a quiet and smooth 600 rpm’s. How low can you go with the rpm’s with videos like this?

    Hi Pierre, jumping the fuel pump relay is very difficult. Is putting a positive lead to the pumps not a much simpler way to ? Just a thought.

    when you say the air vane moves just enough to allow fuel in when starting how would this be related to the idle fuel hole just below the metering slit.i just read a manual saying something about how important the 0.6 mm recess on reinstalling the screw retainer on the plunger..i presume at 0.6mm the plunger just close this idle fuel hole..then as soon as vacuum pulls on the air vent( or fuel from the csi)the engine fires, and the correct co adjustment will be the position where the plunger is open on the idle hole but below the start of the metering slit..this may be key to my hot start problem give ive changed all except the fd assembly

    I have 1985 380se actually fuel pumpand filter is new and fuel comingat distrubutor and stillno starting any steps
    And that plate for air flow is not coming back up if u pull then it comes up

    Mine is a little sleepy! Doesn’t quite close all the way when engine is off. 80’ 450SL .
    Hmmm I’m thinking probably a good cleaning...
    I’m really hoping it doesn’t mess with my 20 MPG highway consumption.

    When you, and others, say 'free play', how exactly do you identify the point of deflection? I can't feel exactly where it is.

    Thakn you! On a KE can you do the "flow test" at the injector lines/distributor head by deflecting the sensor plate with the engine off and the fuel pump running?

    i have been watching as many as videos as i can however my issue is not mentioned in any of them , when i turn the 3mm allen wrench i can never get 1to 3 mm free play , i think i have messed up and turned it way too many times and done some damage , please help ?

    Please help. The plate feeling loose without resistance and it have been screwed too much I think so dont know how to get it stiff again and how much mm gap to start with.. what to do? :(

    at 4:27 you described the technique for K jet, not KE, but when u ended the description and said you would get more power off the line you said KE....DID you mean K

      Actually applies to both. If the air flow metre is out of adjustment then you will lose some power. If you could set it up for the smoothest idle you should have the most power

    Just want to tell you because of your videos I was able to get my 1990 420SEL running today after replacing airflow plate assembly ……however the car runs poorly after the cold start injector stops, the car sat for more than 4 years before we purchased it and we replaced , fuel pumps ,accumulator,airflow plate assembly ( the original seemed to have restricted movement and causing an over fueling issue) new plugs,rebuilt fuel distributor, cap and rotor ,wires …..we also tested pressures between the upper and lower fuel distributor ( 4 bars separation upper being the higher pressure, we also did an extensive smoke test and believe all vacuum leaks are repaired.
    Can you steer me in the right direction on what we should check next ? The car has 32000 original miles we also checked several cylinders and all had 120 or better
    Please help

    Hi Pierre,
    My 88 w124 230e, won't idle and it had to start, it will run at higher rpm, this has been happening for sometime, I rebuild the KE Jetronic with new seals, new fuel injectors, new plugs, new distributor cap.
    Can you help with improving the idling, thanks

    Thank you for the video. I have KE-Jetronic. If I ghange the free play on sensor plate from 2.0mm to 1.5mm will that change the volt on potentiometer. (0.7v)?

    Hello. I've discovered your amazing videos while trying to interpret an issue with a w124 200e I'm probably buying soon. The owner says the mixture is too high and it gets flooded. And when they disconnected the return line and got it spilling to a container, it was ok. Is it possible to have the return line clogged? Any hints on what should I do?
    A 1989 200e with 122hp is a k ejetronic, right? Ot a kjetronic.

    Thank you for the channel. Have you ever have a the adjustment screw lock-up? Can no longer adjust and air flow flap binds up. No start, 1989 300te?

      Yes, replace the whole assembly if you cant free it up.

    Did replace air/fuel adjuster twice. 1st& 2nd adjusters drilled out screws/rivets things? Second time messed up one of the threads of mounting adjuster to air flow body. So when I adjust I hold down adjuster, adjust, remove, and cover hole with duct tape. Vac. leak. I know 👎. But should work? Thanks again.🤗

    My 300sl r129 ke jetronic air plate is not closing all the way up. It is any way to give more tension to the spring to force it to close the air vent plate?

    I have 380Sl 1985 I have problem when it is cold it is start directly but as soon as I push the gas paddle the engine stalls till it is warm then it is great what you think the problem . thank you so much

    Once you've said to me that closing the fuel pressure accumulator inlet would make the engine stumble when changing speed; although I didn't made it I feel some stumble around 1800 RPM that ceases when I pump a little more, should it be the accumulator? Is it readable in a simple gauge attached at the fuel distributor inlet or the pressure surge is very fast for it?
    I thought about checking the potentiometer position too but get a little unconfident about doing it, as it doesn't have much clearance to move it while the engine runs.

      I have the very same rumbling at 1800 rpm. Now, I found out that the fuel pressure regulator is leaking badly at the vent nipple. I ordered new regulator so let's see if it will cure the dreadful stumbling!!

      @@thisisnightshop2037 Sorry, I would say that I've asked you "If I did It what could happen" and you talked about the stumbling, It was not an advice from you. In fact you've desencouraged me of doing It. I don't like to modify the systems, It was a curiosity about an emergency situation at the road side and certainly you'd never suggest kinda stuff.     Man these bosh C.I.S injection systems are a pain....I have a 190E with the M103.
    my problem is the cars not starting it used to start and idle but loose power n die soon as you hit the gas peddle , so i got the fuel distributor refurbished and i replaced both fuel pumps and fuel filter now the cars not starting and im not getting gas to the injectors.
    so i disconnected one of lines going to the injectors and started cranking........Still nothing!!
    soo i have somebody try and start the car while i manually press down on the meter plate......still nothing.
    i can hear my fuel pumps priming when i turn the key.....and again when cranking.
    when i remove the fuel line going into the C.I.Severywhere so theres plenty pressure
    iv also replaced the fuel pressure regulator.
    and when i remove the return hose from the regulator nothing comes out at all,
    but when i remove the small skinny line that goes from the distributor to the regulator i get fuel....... i got fuel going into the regulator but nun coming out?
    literally plz help

    Hi, good video. My problem is that the air flow sensor plate is not stable and that changes the engine idle. Some other times it get stuck down and the engine revs to 3000rpm. Do you know how to fix this?

    Hi there...very interesting.
    My 380E was running until I started messing with the air screw adjuster. How do I set it at default? (If u get my drift)Do I adjust it down until I hear the fuel flow ? Had it running with groping in the dark but very roughly....now she wont start even with priming.

      Eventually discovered my HT leads wr put back one position of to the right if u understand what I mean when I replaced them with new once.
      Fired up straight away. .

    On my European '92 w201 1.8 I cannot press an Allen key into the tube that you show. It feels like there is a plastic thing blocking it. Could that be true?

      i know in my 560sel w126 there was a ball bearing in the hole that was pressed in by mercedes so regular mechanics don't mess with it..i'm thinking maybe your car has something similar?

      My 1989 560 SEL has the same ball bearing blocking the adjustment port. But it’s running very rich and high idle. Should I remove the port and press out the ball?

    It looked like you were checking the centering of the plate with a feeler gauge, but then you didn't talk about it? You should mention that too!

      There is a special tool for cantering the air flow sensor plate available from Bosch dealership.

    so with the 3mm allen key, you don't press it down but just turn left/right to adjust the gap, right?
    you press "down & hold" to adjust the fuel/air ration? am I correct? (KE system)

      I tapped down the pin in situ today 2/3mm, that the plate is sitting nicely but it is so tense, no give hardly,
      stumbling and nearly backfiring so left it fairly frustrated,
      If I'm understanding the process, now with the engine off I can adjust it at the 3mm barrell without pressing down and that will give it the few millimetre free play,
      Then turn on the engine, KE jet will figure it out from there except for the finale when I press down on the 3mm allen and adjust the fuel air ratio.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Great way to screw up the air/fuel ratio adjustment!!! Set this using a CO2 analyser!! With the engine running, the plate should be about 3mm depressed. With engine stopped, there should be ZERO gap. The steel bridge must never be straightened. The plate MUST move up to the rubber stop on the steel bridge.
