    All K and KE Jetronics from Bosch has a very fine screen filter attached to the inlet side of the fuel distributor. This serves as a final filter before the fuel enters to the most sensitive parts of the fuel system, such as the plunger and barrel, metering slits, and fuel injectors to name a few. A lot of technician overlook this important screen filter because they thought its just a simple fuel inlet line connector. Thanks for showing this part on your video. Well done! All the best!

    I have a 1987 vw passat cli, 5 cylinder with K jetronic injection and i've struggled for month with the fuel pressure, i watch this video and just decided to check the filter of that very same screw and low and behold the fuel pump stopped laboring and the car could rev up again. Thanks MMWA for posting this very important video.

    At 2.42 in your video you take off a pipe iv drained my fuel tank of old petrol my question is if I took off the pipe you have just did could I drain the remaining old fuel in the line under the power of the car ?

    • @MMWA-DAVE
      @MMWA-DAVE  7 років тому +1

      in my opinion the best way to drain the tank is to disconnect the large suction hose that runs between the bottom of the tank and the first fuel pump from the pump side. Have a suitable sized bucket ready because the fuel comes out very fast. While the tank is empty you can install a new screen filter in the tank too. I have to do all this in my red w124 and will make a video next year.

  • @MMWA-DAVE
    @MMWA-DAVE  7 років тому +13

    Sadly this will probably be one of the last jobs I do on this car. I will be looking to buy something else later this year if the opportunity arrises. I want to get more involved with OBD2 era benzes as electronics and diagnostics is where my interests really are. I only ever got involved with mechanical repairs and maintenance as a young man as a necessity to make every dollar stretch as far as possible, as I age further and money is no longer the main concern I find this sort of work less and less interesting.
    This car I also never intended to buy, it came to me as a rescue mission. The previous owner contacted me through a work colleague and said he had a benz too good to send to scrap which needed a bit of work. Once i saw the picture of it and the condition it was in, it was love at first sight. I have probably spent near 10 thousand dollars on this car for my amusement and in reality it is only worth 3 - 5 If i'm lucky. I will probably cover it up and just forget about it when the new car comes along.

      Hussain Jamal it is the MAS unit, which incorporates the fuel pump relay among other things. The object was to depressurise the fuel system, but in reality it still poured out everywhere anyway. Venting tank pressure makes sure fuel does not continue to flow out of the disconnected supply line, which happens on this car if I don't open the cap before opening fuel system.

      @@MMWA-DAVE Thanks! I learned that the m104.980 doesn't have fuel pump relay, but an MAS--just bought one. If you've done any videos about replacing the ECM on this engine, I'd be grateful if you could direct me to it.

      @@matthewsmith8249 yep mas relay performs a combination of functions not limited to fuel pump. Also does AC compressor, heating of the o2 sensor and probably other things i forget about.

    one last inquiry before you retire! what part on a '91 300sel would suddenly create a very loud scraping noise after a rapid acceleration then cause the engine to cut off & not restart several minutes later? I pulled over & popped the hood but couldn't determine the source. RPM's were normal. I've had a crank no start issue for 2 months now with mechanics giving different opinions. Autobahn Auto in Hampton, VA wants me to buy a new engine without first opening it up to see what,if anything, is actually wrong with it. it didn't overheat or lose oil pressure before cutting off. check engine light didn't come on. timing chain is intact. car ran great since buying it from a doctor a year ago. Help! Work and everything else is suffering!
    Thanks, Kevin

      Retiring ? LOL I'm 36, I wish. is that a w140 300SEL or a w126?

      Beautiful Body i gotta say that definitely does not sound good. Is the motor actually turning? Ie can you see the fan spinning? My guess is the timing chain has let go and caused a catastrophic engine failure. Take off the valve cover to verify.

      Beautiful Body if the body and interior is still good id consider sourcing a good used engine and transmission and just swapping them out. Or at least the engine. Im not sure what differences there are on the w124 but there were thousands sold so should be plenty out there. Some swapping of bits between them may be needed to make it fit the 126, im not sure.
