Can you re-visit this deck with the new bans? I am having a hard time believing it can even compete in cEDH. Solely because it was already somewhat difficult getting him out even with Jeweled Lotus.
My first commander was Niv-Mizzet Parun and i loved it. Iv changed the deck a few times but now I'm trying to make it more CEDH. Honstely this video helped alot especially what to look for and what to expect.
Great video shuana well spoken and well organized I’m thinking about building niv but my meta is so creature heavy Kraums, Najeelas, winotas korvolds Etc. I’m kind of considering sneaking in some extra sweepers Earthquake, anger of the gods etc. but wondering if that’s a trap Not sure yet, anyways… content was great thanks all
@@johnweinhandl8890 she mentioned to me during the full interview she doesn't like running back up win conditions because they tend to be dead cards most of the time, and Niv and Twister more often than not gets there.
I can't speak with her level of experience, but if I was in your position I'd certainly try out some extra sweepers if there's that many creature decks. I think in general they're underplayed in the format.
I’m gonna start building my niv-mizzet deck I’m super excited I’m gonna buy the gavi nest warden precon and start modifying that and switch the commanders
We play niv completely different, loved your video though. The big combo I really like to get is NivMizzet+MagicMirror and be an annoying control player with 20 cards in their hand.
Is there a certain mulligan rule cEDH uses or does it use what the other magic formats use? I thought you could no longer keep certain cards and shuffle others? Specifically referencing the example hands section.
I have a little experience with the deck, but Shauna would definitely be the person to reach out to. You can find her social media in the description, probably would try her twitter for any follow up questions.
I think it's really important to note the weaknesses a deck can have when deciding if you want to pilot it. It's not helpful to pretend this deck is just as powerful and versatile as the top contenders, but it offers a unique gameplan and a powerful late game engine that, if you look out for the things that can trip you up along the way, can take over pods even with those safer decks.
@@lokumo13 It has about a 40% win rate at my LGS since I've built it in paper. My friends were haters at first, but now they know that having around 40 interactive cards in the deck means that it's dangerous for them whether Mizzet is out yet or not. I've won a few times after taking mulligans to 4 cards to start. The dragon can cook
Great video, but this just made my mind on NEVER going into cEDH... it is more disgusting than the average Pioneer or Standard strategies... definitely cEDH is a pay to win...
cEDH is extremely proxy friendly, you're very unlikely to find a pod where they won't allow you to use proxies. A common sentiment in the community is that they want to play against you, not your wallet.
All cedh players are open to using proxies. We play against your skill, not your wallet. If someone claims to play cedh but is against proxies, that person is not a real cedh player.
Here in Brazil we have a format called Commander 500. The maximum price limit for the decks is 500 reais (approximately 90 dollars) with the price based on the largest online store in the country. This helps a lot to level the game.
Does damage dealt from Niv’s ability, and other commanders who deal non-combat damage through abilities, count as commander damage? Or is commander damage just combat damage based?

That's great! Niv is a ton of fun.
Great episode. Niv-Mizzit isn't the easiest to pilot. Having an expert's insight is great 👍
Thanks a ton! Shauna is amazing and did an excellent job.
Debating on playing Niv or Kess to play in cedh cant make up my mind. Great video btw.

Also thoughts on not running buccaneer as a back up?
Because of lack of tutors I’m guessing?

@@LemorasCards thank you for your responses
I have been liking your channel. Specially about the one about game theory as it applies to EDH.
@@johnweinhandl8890 thank you very much!
Love this video !!
I also pilot Niv as a main and it's so fun
Thank you! it's definitely one of my favorite decks to play too.
Very insightful vid!

This was an amazing video

It uses the same rules as Commander, which is the London Mulligan rule but with the addition of 1 free mulligan aka a second seven.
no transmit effects to grab the wincons?
Why mox so expensive
Do you do zoom calls or anything like that? I have some more questions since I play niv mixer parun

@@LemorasCards ok I’ll do that then.
@@LemorasCards also idk how to reach her, I checked the description, am I missing something?
No Treasonous Ogre on deck list?
I think the list is trying to be a bit less all in on Niv, haven't spoke to Shauna about it recently so not sure!
a commander deck has 99 cards, Im against 3 opponents with 40 life each. How can I kill them all with this combo?
Once you've drawn through most of your deck, you can either use time twister or a card like valakut awakening to restart.
With all the caveats, it feels like this video should be titled "Niv-Mizzet: Learn why NOT to Play"

Put curiosity on nib game over
That's the basic gameplan, but sometimes that doesn't quite do it, and often it's getting there that's the hard part.
Not really convinced niv is suitable for cedh really. High powered sure but its too narrow and easily shut down
Well, it has four top 16 placements this year at major events, so narrow or not, it's been performing.
LMAO OK
