• EDITING Natural Light ...
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
ABOUT THIS VIDEO: The light and airy photography style is a popular editing style for portraits and wedding photography, and is the style I gravitate towards in my work! So I often get asked how to edit for this look. I've shared a few photography tutorials breaking down my portrait editing process in Lightroom. But before diving into editing - even more important is thinking about how to photograph specifically for this look. That's what I share in this video! We talk about how to shoot, choose your backgrounds, pose your subject in relation to the light, camera settings & how to avoid the #1 mistake beginning photographers make with this look (Hint: overexposing highlights) - all to achieve that beautiful clean, light and airy look we (and our clients) love so much!

Finally a professional photographer who tells some of their "secrets" for the rest of us pros to benefit on a different style. Thank you for this and your preset. Now I have to get used to underexposed images to make them beautiful in the end.
Thanks Charles! I’m so happy this video was helpful and would love to hear how things go after you get a chance to try out some of the techniques & lightroom preset. :)
Still working on it. What would be the camera settings if I do a wedding and there is no way I can get them anywhere for back light, only front or side light? I'd like to try to get it as right as I can in camera without having to work much with the preset.
I subscribed because you smile in your presentation! Glad to find someone who knows their stuff but isn't cocky in their presentation 👏🏾
Thanks Kudzai! :)
Woo woo! Tutorials are back! 🙌
+Miguel Cortes 😁😘 Wedding season took over for a bit, but I’m so excited to get back on track with my channel!! I have 2 more videos that have just been waiting to be edited. 🙈 Lmk if you have any requests! XO
Anyone else find themselves staring at the dog throughout the whole video? Awesome vid by the way, really precise way of getting the information to the viewer.
Thanks Lrod! And Bella always steals the show. 🐶love her!

I like your energy Chelsea, nice video. I am almost all the time shooting in a golden hour, but you shoot just after the sunset...? That´s worth trying. Thank you for the time and smile ;) Martin

Very nice photo!
Thanks Chengway!
I really like yr photos❤️ which lens is yr favorite
Really great information especially about back lighting and underexposed. I use off camera flash. Would you still suggest underexposing or does it not matter. BTW subscribed and hit the bell and followed on IG
If we shoot with the widest aperture (1.4 or 1.8) could we get the sharpest images? normally the widest aperture doesn't give the sharpest images.
Hey God bless i would like to have those temples of the questions? How or where can i do that
I'm loving the dog's vibe
Hi Chelsea, I'm glad I just found you, love your vídeos! One question if you allow me... I noticed that in some of the skies you lost detail, the highlights are blown and I really, really love the look but I never did it because I was afraid that was a problem if people print their photos... Is that ok to print if you don't have details in the sky for instance? I'm new at photography and when I shoot backlit I always expose for the sky and bring the shadows on people's faces, but sometimes I actually prefer all white... So, my question is... Is that ok to print photos with blown highlights? Thank you so, so much!!!!
Hi chelsea! Would mind doing a before and after of the image at 2:40 including the camera setting? What do you prioritize in exposure while shooting, the subject/s or the background and light? Does ISO setting need to be at its lowest? Thanks!
I want to know too!
So do I.
Just found you! Loving all your videos!
Thanks so much!! 🤗❤️
Same here!! Great vids!! :-)
Thank you!! :)
Great info! I do have a request though, as with many tutorials, no mention of camera settings. Meaning type of metering (metrics, area, spot), focus (continuous or spot), and so on. I do like your channel and have clicked the subscribe...good stuff.
Thanks John! :) And this is a really great suggestion. I’ll definitely keep it in mind for future videos.
As mentioned before here, I too like your method of explanation. Enough so, that I may even try this type of photography :)
What kind of metering do you use for your portraits?
The doggie knows all this - that is why she looks board! Great instructions...thanks!
Great tips.. Thank you very much.. One question, when you under expose your subject which technique do you use, exposure compensation?
Thx Steyn! I shoot all in manual - so I’ll usually dial in the iso and aperture to what I want, then use my shutter speed to control exposure. :)
Chelsea Nicole Photography Ok... Great, thanks for the reply.
What about your iso and shitter speed on these? I get nervous when I'm shooting and it feels like I overexpose still after been doing this for a while..can you help me with a few images
how to get this color tone and skin tone
Hi :) I would like to ask, if you place the sun behind the subjects, wouldn't it create a silhouette?
Nicole Choo Not if you expose for the subject and not the background.
Subscribed.
Thank you! :)
your shirt matches your couch pillows perfectly lol I notice weird things... great videos tho
Haha!! My fiancé and I were talking about what to pack for a recent trip and now refer to this shirt as my 'pillow shirt' because of your comment. 😂Thanks Allison!
Is your dog alive? LOL great video!
Im truly enchanted by your speech and look! Do you believe in love at first sight?!? ❤️❤️❤️
This is the only video on youtube that cant be played..
Do you use flash?
Yes, but only in the evenings or when I don’t have good available light. :)

how to set up SOOC from ur camera setting
Hey Hazirun! Is this a vid suggestion? Lmk, and more specifics on what you need help with. I’ll try to help! :)
how about your camera setting(picture stye and wb shift) for ur outdoor shoot to make perfect with ur preset and editing? :)
Light and airy are not my style but it’s my wives so thanks for the info. She really hates my low key high contrast style. Lol
Thanks JB! Glad this will help for your wife, haha! ;)
Thank you for properly pronouncing ‘bokeh’! :D
Haha! Is there any other way? ;-)
Boké
Bouquet! 💐 In the wedding industry that refers to flowers. 😂
Or bokey if you prefer, but it doesn't matter :D
I am having such a hard time getting my subjects sharp
Hey Jessica! Have you seen my other video on how to get sharp portraits? I think it might help 🙂 ua-cam.com/video/u9EWrDYN0xI/v-deo.html
I am trying to figure out on my Sony how to set my focus points
@@jessicamclean7213 It will vary across both brands and cameras. The easiest is to just search "how to move focus point on (your camera)" in Google, and there should be an article or video that shows how to adjust focus settings for your particular camera. :)
Unpopular opinion:
Highlights are a bit too high...
I was thinking it was another stupid girlish tutorials that spreads misinformation, but damn this is very good! Keep up the great work!
