    I do love my current 11spd GRX Di2 so not sure if I would seek out the 12spd unless I was shopping for a new bike. Have been a Shimano guy since the 90s for both road and gravel. That said, I got a new road bike this spring which has Sram Force AXS and Quarq powermeter. It is darn sweet with the exception of the FD. Oh the dilemma next time I go bike shopping. Thanks JOM.

    From Oz … like other comment, I imagine the larger cassette will work ok. I hope so. As an older cyclist with hills in mind, lbikepacking/ touring still on the agenda, lower gears are important!

    I have XT on my bike with a 135mm hub. I prefer it as I don't use wider than 35mm tyres. GRX is way to limited for me.

    Hmm. I have the GRX 12 speed 1x driveline with the 10~51 cassette, I chose mechanical because there was no Di2 option. But now that the Di2 12 speed is out, I imagine I could use the GRX 12 speed Di2 shifter with an XTR 9200 series Di2 12 speed SGS derailleur (I'm using a XTR cassette). I have a couple of bikes using Dura Ace Di2 derailleurs with XTR shifters, so I imagine a GRX/XTR hybrid bike is doable? I prefer the 1x driveline over a 2x.

    • @GravelCyclist
      @GravelCyclist  2 місяці тому

      I would imagine what you are asking is possible, as I have done it using the XTR Di2 11 speed rear derailleur. However, the 12 speed version has not been officially launched.

    The Framework frame is worthy of comparison to the latest Colnago C series. It is beautiful. But the name is not that original.

    According to the Shimano dealer manuals the RX825 shifter levers cannot be wired to the rest of the system, but it appears the RX825 rear derailleur can, presumably with Dura-Ace or Ultegra shifters - maybe even cable brake ones. (There are numerous documents though and finding things out is painful.)

    • @GravelCyclist
      @GravelCyclist  3 місяці тому

      I relayed what the Shimano product development team shared with us. No way am I going to run this system wired, but it would be interesting to know what works, and what doesn't.

    Shimano will hopefully drop the 11-40 (or 42)cassette in HG format as part of their 1x release. They’ll want to split the difference between the 11-36 and the 10-45, pretty glaring omission. I think an 11-41 would be kinda cool.

    All my bikes are shimano mechanical, how long does the battery powering the rear and front derailers last and how do you charge it? Do you need to remove the seatpost to charge?

    • @GravelCyclist
      @GravelCyclist  3 місяці тому +1

      Battery life will depend on shifting load, more so with the front derailleur. However, around 3 months is pretty standard based on average riding. I showed the charging port in the video, it is located at the back of the rear derailleur. No removing a seatpost to charge.

    Odd decisions from Shimano. Not offering a 1x setup and a max cassette of 11-36. SRAM must be rubbing their hands. OK, it's in the works...why is it taking so long?

    • @GravelCyclist
      @GravelCyclist  3 місяці тому +1

      Have to agree. I was hoping for an 11-40. Regarding 1x Di2 12-speed, I was thinking Shimano would have delayed the launch of GRX Di2 overall to launch both at the same time. I expect we'll see the 1x variant in a few months?

    If its not 1X and mullet, it doesn't matter. ;) Does Shimano have compatibility between the road bike di2 and mountain bike di2?

    • @GravelCyclist
      @GravelCyclist  3 місяці тому +1

      Hard pass on 1x and mullet :) Regarding mixing / matching Di2, I've only tinkered with the original XTR Di2 11-speed (still got those derailleurs, so so good), and the wired road shifters (the original RS785 Di2 hydro lever). They work perfectly together, just ensure the firmware is up to date, etc.

    No short crank options. No PM. No 11-40 cassette. NOT an upgrade to my GRX 11-speed with a 11-40 cassette. With a wide range cassette my group is like having two 1x systems. Very disappointed.

    • @barrowsworm1226
      @barrowsworm1226 3 місяці тому +2

      Really? Whats the problem? You do not have to use a GRX crank. Right now I use a SRAM RED crank with power meter with GRX 12 speed mechanical, and a XTR 10-45 cassette, works great with the right chainring. Shimano power meters are terrible anyway (although I do expect them to get this right at some point). GRX electronic will have wide range cassettes soon as well, with the 10-45 and 10-52 cassettes.

      @@tonyg3091 100% on this configuration. I bugged Shimano about this during the mechanical 12 speed GRX camp as well. I much prefer 46/30, 46x11 is a large gear, especially when you factor in larger tyre casings. I really hope they offer an 11-40 sooner rather than later.

      @@GravelCyclist I am on 46/30 to 40t cassette mechanical on my gravel bike and it is simply unbeatable. Gravel bike heaven. Trumps all SRAM mullets with 40t chainrings- lower bottom gear and higher top gear. Can climb up walls and at the same time is no slouch on flats. It really beats me why Shimano cannot see how perfect this is.

      The hoods are uglier than the 11spd ones. The front derailleur looks like the 11 speed one. Ultegra 12spd cranks and front derailleur looks so much sleeker.
