So many people hear this and think it's just "noise" what they don't realize is that it takes years and years of practice to even be half as good as Pridgen
What I’ve come to realize too late in my life as a percussionist, this is the same as playing a piano, violin, wind instrument.. is structured, with basic rules that must be mastered. This percussionist can teach and can be paid to listen to for both.
He's much more than gospel chops. I spent most of my life in that gospel style too, and got pretty good. But even the best gospel guys wave the white flag when it comes to Thomas. He takes what we have to the next galaxy by being so fundamentally sound PLUS having a creative ear that's seemingly unlimited. Believe it or not, most gospel drummers are self taught, even in the rudiment department. Maybe a little marching band at some point, but mostly relying on talent and repetition. And at some point, they get really good, but it's good within a niche. Pridgen is just good all around. He's actually one of the drummers who made me get away from so much gospel chop stuff and really venture out into different lanes. It's the only way to really be the best you can be.
I absolutely love the work here, Id say im an alright drummer but i play casually...could sit down at a kit and play a lot of most rock, thrash, pretty alright, jazz and swing....i marvel at other peoples work and admire their talent and dedication.....and when I watch others I have a hyper soft spot for ride work....which is showcased here! :D Thomas is incredible and has worked hard to become so, I hope to continue to learn and grow while enjoying further work from this wild human being.
It’s practice I studied Thomas for a while and he plays a certain pattern all the time but switches it just listen and look and I learn this from a old UA-cam video a drummer did on a pattern he taught him
1:15 to 1:42 sends chills down my spine. That shyt just hits so hard man. I don't know shyt about drumming but that stutter thing he does on @ 1:25 to 1:28 is so fast and satisfying. Then the end of that segment where he rolls down octaves is fucking perfect.
0:38 - there seemed to be a wee hiccup but if you repeat it in the next bar and the next it's no longer a blip but part of the piece imo, a fantastic player and great feel... as usual.
I've enjoyed this performance since its' release and never noticed that part was unintentional, one of the most creative and memorable transitions I have ever heard and it came from a misstep!
The top is either an 18" or 19" Z3 zildjian crash. Don't know the bottom, but i met him once and he then used a K Dark 19" crash if im not mistaken. He switches up a lot for sound.
Yeah this is basically what younger and younger people are starting to do to music. Just a completely detached, "look what I can do" mentality. It's the product of a lack of critical thinking - which if you look at them, makes perfect sense since everything else about them is because of a lack of critical thinking.
@@aristideregnier4883 6 years later and I'm choosing to comment about what you said because this just the least expressive thing you could ever choose to view music as. If you need to be this dismissive based fully on a sweeping generalization of an entire generation, you my friend are the detached one whose views have lost the thinking portion of the phrase critical thinking. Jazz itself could be seen as foundational for "look what I can do" shit. I'm afraid of getting old because of views like yours.
This is an artist.
Thomas Pridgen, pra mim um dos melhores bateristas da atualidade.
Absolutely amazing, and his drums sound incredible as well.
The tone of those Toms and his bass drum are really nice. Wish more drummers tuned their drums.
If you come across this and can't here the music in what he's doing, you've got a lot to learn about music.
Ben Manzanares yes !!
To be fair this is incredibly advanced so it's really easy to get lost in the "noise"
Exactly.
Facts
So many people hear this and think it's just "noise" what they don't realize is that it takes years and years of practice to even be half as good as Pridgen
He's a genius on the drums

Positive Vibes from Brazil!

Absolutely, couldn’t figure it out but your spot on Andrew Heath with jimi Hendrix
This dude is the DEFINITION of the term 'gospel chops'.
"Gospel Chops" is too limiting of a box..this is more "all around" drumming

Between UA-cam algorithm & Zildjian IG post, man I've came across some excellent music!
That Bad Brains T-Shirt explains a lot ^:^ Love it.
Wish I could hit my cymbals the way he does. He is a master.
I wish I had that stick and foot control!
It’s practice I studied Thomas for a while and he plays a certain pattern all the time but switches it just listen and look and I learn this from a old UA-cam video a drummer did on a pattern he taught him

Where can I find this song?? Or whose it by??
Is there anyone like Thomas Pridgen on drums? I'm not saying he's everyone's favorite drummer but I'm saying he's definitely, 'rare'.
Wow
Whos the song by
So Unique

Zenith Patrol if i'm not mistaken
Mars Volta
noise & roll band Extra Nappy
We need Terry Branam to do a transcription of this song!!! Who agrees with me?!!
Where is this track come from ? His solo album or what ???
Zenith Patrol
What’s crazy to me is that he’s a lefty doing all this on right handed kit.
What kit is this??
Guy is free
Se tentar entender o raciocínio da fera, vai ficar pegado 🔥🔥🔥
I come here for solace 😊
Sounds a lot like his appearance on Zildjian Live
Anyone know what finish that DW is known as?
Idk 😮❤
Somebody know's the type of the hit-hat
The top is either an 18" or 19" Z3 zildjian crash. Don't know the bottom, but i met him once and he then used a K Dark 19" crash if im not mistaken. He switches up a lot for sound.
Filthy 👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾🔥🔥🔥
18” hats?
Es un monstruo sin duda, pero es necesario tal exceso?
Sí
Hey Thomas: we get it you have chops.
Sheesh...
Does anyone know if this can be found on Spotify or anywhere else?
What is most amazing is that he's left handed but plays his kit in a right handed set up.
Listen on acid
Must know his yearly income to see if this is worth pursuing!!!
Is he playing to the same song I'm hearing? Coz, I'm not sure. He's got the skills, that is for sure, but ....

Ever hear The Mars Volta? Even before he played with them?
Aristide Regnier expand your mind and musical understanding beyond such a linear and conventional mindset

Copyright Infringement
it's not monetized.
Nice rudiments but to me it just sounds like overplaying
No feel, no dynamics,, powerplaying only
that's just a show off
HAHAHAHAHAHA: HA HA HAHAHA HAH AH A H
Somebody’s jealous, it’s okay man..
No dynamics? What about all those ghost notes..?
noob!
16 th notes for dayzzz. Some ghosts and 32nd's. No tastefule phrasing over the bar line, metric modulation, 5's are unheard of, displacement ? Boring.
"ENVY ",....BUT WE UNDERSTAND !! 😉
