- This was a disappointing documentary where a mainstream media channel here in the UK proved that they are still CLUELESS about bitcoin and cryptocurrencies even in 2022. We have a lot of work to do!

I watched this documentary and whilst I have a lot of respect for Ade Adepitan, I felt that the content was very superficial. It was on the level of a Stacey Dooley "investigation".
Really enjoyed this one. Feels like something I can share. It really gets to the heart of the issue: this documentary didn't answer any questions of any value, they just danced around the money making propositions the whole time and glanced past the important things to think about.
That was awesome, thanks! I love the way of explaining Bitcoin by showing how it is different from crypto, now that almost everyone confuse the two. In fact, I think this video would make a good introduction to Bitcoin.

Great analysis Mike and couldn't agree more, should have focused more on Bitcoin than the get rich crypto theme for true education.
There's plenty of Bitcoin only groups in the UK now that are trying to get more small companies adding Bitcoin only payments, Bridge2bitcoin being one driving force for it.
Hopefully they'll focus more on BTC only in the next one!

Spot on. I'm routinely amazed at how corporate media gets it wrong so often. But then I remember that corporate media has a vested interest in turning people away from cryptocurrency and decentralized systems.
I think also many normies in mainstream media struggle with the education barrier
Genuine questions: This showed on Channel 4; is Channel 4 not owned by the UK government? Is the only thing corporate about Channel 4 the fact that it is self financed so its vested interests, beyond communicating it owner's narratives, include creating content that generates enough revenue to continue as a going concern?
@@elliotgbrown Idk anything about channel 4's organization. But here in the US, virtually all television media and print media is corporate owned. And it, without fail, comically fails to understand cryptocurrency.
1. I think these channels focus on crypto because they don't think bitcoin is substantial enough. It's a shame because there is a lot of history and a lot to be learned from that very short 13 years.
2. You hit the nail on the head about people losing confidence in central banks and government to look after their money. These entities define money for most of us, but when we see situations like we are seeing today, we look elsewhere and bitcoin is another definition of money that people can explore and see if it can work for them.
3. The banker said that regulation is needed and also mentioned that bonds and stocks are more reliable because of how regulation is applied. But stocks like GameStop and AMC have shown, regulation doesn't prevent pump and dumps and honestly, I see little difference between penny stocks and crypto. Both require due diligence before buying, and both are potential gems or potential flops for short term trading.
4. It really is a shame that they don't differentiate crypto and bitcoin because it makes topics hard to debate. Often I agree with negative statements when made against crypto, but it is important to understand that I don't class bitcoin as crypto, otherwise I must say "it depends" and it depends if we are talking about bitcoin or anything else. Separating the two really helps move conversations forward productively instead of having to go back and forth, constantly making the same qualifications that bitcoin is different to crypto.

Great content as always Mike. I will defend Guy here, in that while he's not exclusively a bitcoiner, his content is typically neutral information delivery and education. Everyone should be wary of shills, but I feel as though the two of you have more in common -- educating those new to the subject -- than you are different. People that want it to go to the moon but don't want any dips along the way personify wanting to have your cake and eat it.
To say "I lost money because the price of Bitcoin fell" is like waking up each morning and looking at the ForEx market to see if you "lost money" on any random foreign exchange trading pair: "Damn if I would have exchanged my Euro to Yen last night at 2a.m. and got into Dollar at 5.30 I would not have lost money!"
yesterday, on the day blackrock made that spot bitcoin trust, 2 german newspapers said bitcoin/crypto was dead😂😂😂

6:23 They're not all out to get you but this event is a great place for scammers to hide in plain sight. Most of those alts mentioned here though aren't the best to be showcasing in a documentary and like you say it just paints the market broadly with a bad brush. They could be doing this intentionally or could be in the same boat where the BBC and MSM still have no clue about what they're documenting.
20:43 Maybe not lose everything with Bitcoin but it has happened to Luna, I think he was referring to the whole market but again, mentioned Bitcoin as a market example misleading people into thinking Bitcoin which is less volatile could go to 0.
22:12 The freedom he mentions here is related to the wealth he's accumulated and not about Bitcoin specifically but you're right in what you say about Bitcoin and again they didn't interrupt with that narrative as they should have and like you did.
31:12 If you're going to "invest" in something, that's a long term hold. None of this is a get rich quick scheme like he's lead to believe. The volatility isn't a problem, it's only a huge gamble because of the lack of education.
Mike, please try and get in touch with him to boost his education and save him from this madness!
I think the one thing they needed to state here is "Research exactly what token you're buying or anything for that matter, then decide if you still think it's a good idea to trade it for your "money". Again missed opportunity to educate the masses but I can't blame them - you can't teach if you don't know your subject.

Felt to me like some stuff from 2013, when even bitcoin was still Wild West.. kinda shame cause of the luck of information there. We got some documentaries our self in Czech and I muss say it was a lot better than this crap :P
