Trail Mater - The backstory on Rory Irish and his Off Road Wrecker
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 сер 2024
- We caught up with UA-cam celeb Rory Irish of Trail Mater fame at Easter Jeep Safari 2023 in Moab, Utah. We were with this dynamic duo three years ago when Rory was trying to figure out the UA-cam thing. How is he doing now? Well, the world loves this Moab native.
Join Rory as he shares tales of how he ended up with Trail Mater, his work with UA-cam royalty such as Matt’s Off Road Recover, Diesel Brothers ( HeavyDSparks ), Fab Rats, and Robby Layton. These hooligans have become referred to as the "Utah UA-cam Mafia" and they continue to entertain the world each week with crazy fab tricks, wild recoveries, and all-around shenanigans. Rory also shares his experience at the Off Road Wrecker Games in Sand Hollow. Did he win? Well, you’ll need to get that one from the King of Moab himself.
We had a blast with Rory and his Trail Mater Wrecker...and looking forward to the next time.
Enjoy!

Awesome interview!
Hey Matt, thanks for the good words. Sorry I wasn't able to hook up with you after EJS. Heading to Mexico next week and had too much on my plate. C-
I came here from lite Brite! I seen Sam spot Matt on that trail! Most viewed! Then this fer came along! 45 minutes of the most unnecessary front digs ever! I am so proud you both
I enjoy all things "Rory". Just watched a Trailmater vid when this showed up, so... Time well spent
@@outlaw26aow61 Front digs are never unnecessary if they annoy someone. Cool to watch if they don't.
Rory is an awesome man Matt.
Hearing Rory explain why and how he does things is like a master class in offroad recovery.
Agreed, thanks for the feedback, Jim
Awesome interview! Rory and his guys are some of the most humble people I've ever met, they are always willing to take a few minutes to chat with someone.
Agreed, just normal guys doing their thing. Thanks for the input.
That’s what makes their channels so fun and enjoyable to watch.
Great interview and when I first got into UA-cam I found Matt’s Off Road Recovery I spotted Rorys channel and he was basically shooting with one camera and I watched his channel grow. He was pulling off some the most radical rescues I became obsessed with watching his work.
Hey Mr. Mongo, Collard here. Three years ago I was cracking up when I put the camera on Rory and asked for comments and he said, "I don't do that..."
👍
@@Gone_Gpn word bruh word👍👍👍💯💯💯
Nice video of an Iconic Legend !
Thanks, Mr. McGoo
Very good interview and the story about Rory and TrailMater never gets old.
Thanks for the feedback, Ted. It's great to see a good guy follow a passion and kick some booty in the process.
I love Rory, Matt, Paul, Robbie.
They're great people, no cussing, no derogatory rude comments about people, which I've heard from an AZ channel.
Agreed, and fun to hang out with too.
So good to see Rory himself and his channel evolve. He adds a lot of colour and character to the actual wrecker world and UA-cam space. Until I stumbled on this video I hadn't seen andy of Rory's, so thanks!
Thanks for the feedback, Helmut, it is great to see a good guy doing what he loves knocking it out of the ballpark.
People will always hate. Dont pay them no mind Rory. You provide a service that no one else does.
We agree, Albert. What's up with the armchair Internet QBs?
A good business is not afraid of people doing the same kind of "business"! Working together but still keeping your own journey in tact makes it great for all concerned!! Friendship, comraderie and trust!!
A rising tide raises all ships, right!
Now I know even more Why I like Rory . He's an old Pipeliner. Glad to know That Rory. We're Basically Pipeline Brothers ..LOL.. Great interview Guys.
Agreed, thanks, Thomas
It’s been said before and I’ll say it again…. Rory seems to not only be a very well liked man in the off-road community but even you can see it through his channel he’s always joking seems to be very easy going and overall just a good hearted person! You see it most when the little one is with him! As Big and intimidating as Rory may seem when his little girl is around he’s softer than a feather! Let’s us know he ain’t all piss and vinegar like he wants us to believe lol
Well said, Dr. Rob
I remember Rory mentioning a couple times working in the oil industry, and always figured his gin pole style boom setup was inspired by bed trucks. Glad to hear more background on that, those are awesome machines!
Thanks for the input, SOREN, his background in oil and running a bed truck definitely helped.
Great interview Chris! Rory and his team are number one for repair and recovery. I'm sure you enjoyed being with him. Chris, for the life of me I don't understand why you guys don't have 1,000's more subscribers by now. You do a great job with your videos and have great information. Come on folks, let's get Gone-Gpn to 10K by June!!!!
Hey Rick, Collard here. Thanks for the good words...and as for the 1,000s of more subscribers, no idea. The entire team is busy doing our "other" jobs and doing what we can with Gone-GPN. Thanks again, C-
Rory is amazing 👍👍
Yep, he's a pretty cool dude.
Rory and Mater are the best!
The best, agreed!
What a great mini Biopic.! Thanks for putting this together!

The Bless you and yours Rory. good video, You putting Moad on the map like never before.

I did find you through Matt’s channel and I never looked back 😊 Rory is a national treasure 👍🏾 pure genius
Welcome aboard!
The wrecker games were like nothing else I’ve ever seen!! You are right on this one!! Soooooo good!
Thanks for the input, Tim.
The first time I saw Trail-Mater I thought it looked like an escapee from Mad Max, but then I realised how capable it is and how skillful Rory is with it. Every walkaround shows a few more details of the intelligent thought and evolution that has gone into it. A great interview, thank you.
Road Warrior, exactly
Love the truck and how it evolved
Thanks, Mark, we appreciate the input.
Everyone out in Utah are just fantastic people! That is what we love about them and their videos!
Agreed! Thanks for the feedback, John.

Totally loved hearing the back story.. awesome
Glad you enjoyed it! We appreciate the feedback.
Amazing interview Rory.....hats off !!
Thanks for the kudos, Reddog
👍👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 excellent talk about the history of Rory and the wrecker….
Hey MD Collins, thanks for the input.
I find the one thing that sets Rory apart from the others is that he uses a manual transmission and has incredible clutch control.
It's fantastic to see and hear the story. Rory is totally in his element right here. Matt I think Rory sent you a plug! Haha. Pay up!! Lmao.
Thanks for the feedback, Adam
The most you've ever talked on a video... interesting back story.
👍👍
Right! Thanks for the feedback, Seemoore.
The dyno run was amazing only Rory could have come up with an idea like that to inflate the inner wheels to make is fit 😂😂😂 Rory and trail mater have become an extension of each other
Agreed
Love the TrailMater team!
Long live the Trail Mater team!
That's an amazing evolution. I understand- you build something, see how it works, make changes, and keep on going.
Thanks for the input, Bill
Rory is the Predominant Professor of UA-cam University in Convergent Thinking!!!!
For those too lazy to look it up, it means he knows his shit, and isn’t afraid to show people how to do it themselves! A+ guy!
The omnipotent one. Let class commence.
Good on you Rory. I've been watching you and Matt's almost from the beginning. I still recon you are the best field service mechanic/welder out there.
Thanks for the input, Rob. We agree, Rory can fix nearly anything.
I'm glad you shared this interview. I watched his channel all the time but I never have heard all of the back story
Thanks for the feedback, Jim, glad you liked it.
Excellent video!
Great to hear more of Rory’s beginnings and the process he went through. 👍
Thanks, Peter, glad you liked it
Excellent video, he's a charming disarming character.
Glad you liked it and thanks for the feedback.
Dont ever sell Mater. It is a legend to never forget. Im sure there is a museum somewhere that will exhibit it for always. Just like you Rory.
Legend...we agree.
Great content from Rory and his crew. Good job on all. Learned something about his channel without any bs drama.
Thanks for the feedback, Nathan
I'm glad to see y'all helping out each other's off roading towing companies. I watch for the information. Being a military mechanic at one tyme that used a VTR, a M88, and the five ton Wrecker for recovering tanks, tracks, and wheeled vehicles bring back memories. We used a tow bar to stabilize the load even when the boom was in use. Thanks Utah crew for the lessons.
Thanks for the feedback, Imflori, and thank you for your service!
Thanks for the interview it was awesome
Glad you enjoyed it!
Trailmater Awesome video 🔥🇺🇸😁🔥😁😜😜😜😁🇺🇸🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🇺🇸😁😜😁
Thanks for the feedback, Darryl
That was a great video! Just finished! ❤
Thanks Tim, we appreciate the good words.
I met Rory under similar circumstances lol.... my dad and I were on a road trip, the only tshirt I bought was TrailMater Wrecker Games, (I feel he was the real winner that day if you're judging ability to do the least harm while recovering off road) when I showed up to his shop and was checking out Trailmater, Rory came out, he seemed quite busy but still took a few minutes to help me get my tshirt.
That's what we like about Rory, just a normal guy doing cool stuff.
The thing that Rory brings to the plate is the rigging. Add to it the mentality of an Engineer and the instinct of weight and balance with a Lone Ranger attitude. Nobody you'd rather have on a trail with you. May God continue to Bless Trail Mater Recovery! ❤
Agreed, thanks for the input, Michael.
Excellent interview, both of you👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks Phillip, we appreciate the input.
Awesome interview, Rory!
Thanks, Charlotte
Best yutubers and best content. 👌 awesome guys .
Thanks for the input, Albert!
great interview with rory
Thanks for the feedback, K Ryan
Rory, Matt, Paul, and Robby and everyone else in that inner circle get the concept of "A rising tide lifts all ships." 9:22 that comment is ironic because in Cars 2 Mater talks about how his dents are valuable because each one is a memory made with friends.
Memories made with friends...Thanks for the input, Shullln.
FABULOUS interview! 👍
Thanks for the input, Rory is an easy guy to talk to.
Rory, Mike, Shaun and Justin are the best. Great blokes.👍
Thanks bud
Great to see how grounded you are..
Just a normal guy, right!
Hey Rory, I've been watching your show & Matt's for a little bit now and I just caught this episode and. It's important that you know...
what you guys do matters, how you work together matters. I'm a retired NYPD police officer disabled so I got a lot of time to watch YOUR shows and they uplifts me gives me hope.
God knows how many people you have helped probably save lives and I've learned so much from watching you all, so
Thank You for sharing God bless you all
Thanks for watching, the feedback, and for your service with NYPD.
I was off roading in Moab for the first time in my wife’s daily stock 05 Lexus Land Cruiser, the thought of have g to call him, was like the grim reaper!
He worth every penny.
Every warning light came on and I lost every driver aid
Great story, thanks for the input
Good interview with Rory I really like it God bless❤

I wanna be like Rory when I grow up!
Right!
Loved hearing this backstory on Rory!
Glad you enjoyed it!
good laided back interview
Appreciate the feedback, Jeffrey
Really enjoyed this...!
Glad you enjoyed it
Rory is an amazing guy. He is such a talented individual and has guys working beside him who are evolving into very talented individuals and are not afraid to tackle any adversity. An absolutely great team. Love their videos. Rory reminds me so much of my dad . he could repair or build about anything with some scrap steel and some baling wire and torch.
I'll tell you this old man has nothing but respect for Rory and his crew. He is old school down to earth a great man
Thanks for the feedback!
You lucky dog! I'd love to ride in the Mater.. Anyway, really good interview, a lot of things I wondered about, you got answers to. Thanks!
Great, thanks for the feedback, Mike.
Imagine if a company replicated Rory's Trail Mater, MORR large wrecker, Fab Rats Toyota recovery vehicle the request would be tremendous. Average price would be around $65k-$150k built. These are all custom builds with guberment safety requirements to be sold commercially
Tremendous demand, agreed, but we're thinking $150-$200k on the sticker?
Great interview really enjoyed hearing the back story
Hey Roger, thanks for the kudos.
I just found your channel and subscribed. I have been working on growing my own channel and it very good to hear how someone else stared out. I will be looking forward to seeing your next video.
Thanks for the input and best of luck. Just be yourself
The show of the the games were amazing! You did great with taking to a crowd!! That’s why I’m here!
Cool, thanks for the feedback.
BOY you have some truck. So amazing. And Rory. You are so nice guy. Wish I live in Moab, but no. Far far away in Finland.
Thanks for the feedback, Marko
I always seem to learn things from you guys. You guys are all good anyways about the chrome Molly axles didn’t know that they were too hard to wear their brittle. Anyway, that’s need to know all right this is six in a row.Jim from Kennerdell, Pennsylvania
Thanks for the input, Jim
Legendary interview
Thanks
The Best in the Business
Agreed!
That's a sexy rig, & would be a great friend to wheel with.
Right! Collard said it rides like an off-road Cadillac and has tools and a wrecker boom to boot.
She's got those beautiful hips and I can't stop looking at her. ✌️👍
This was so good and informative. Loved every split second. Totally awesome. 🙏🦅
Thanks Marion, Collard's work with Rory a few years ago provide some great backstory info. Thanks for the input.
I enjoyed this video thank you. Rory has gone from very shy talking on camera to being able to cope and all the time is improving. We love what and how he does things, and he is very humble as a person overall. There are loads of things which make Rory likeable, just the little things like he includes his daughter in his life, and she seems to love being on a trail with him. Also, his partner often comes along in her vehicle. The way he Shaun and Mike all inter react causes fun and laughter and what’s not to like about that. They also work together as a well oiled team. There are so many other reasons why he is so popular. Stay safe until next time.
Agreed, thanks for the input, Burnie
Rory is as humble as can be. Very envious of his endeavors 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Yep, we agree. Thanks for the input, Jeffery
What a great interview, and you are getting a lot better in front of the caners since the start, enjoyed all the info as well, Thanks
Thanks for the feedback, Brett
That was a great interview with Rory. Those wrecker games judging and trophy hand outs was the bomb!!!! Hecl the whole thing was the bomb!!!🎸🎸 NW Montana. USA
Thanks for the feedback, Chey
Good interview.
Thanks for the feedback, Still Rezin.
Great interview!......
Thanks, Chip!
Watching! 🎉👍
Hope you enjoyed it!
Excellent interview.
Thanks, CB, appreciate the good words.
👌👌top thanks
thanks for the input, Elizabeth.
I found your channel because of Matts Offroad, He"s the one that said check out your channel, glad I did love the content.
Thanks for coming
Enjoy the channel, I've never recovered anything in my life. Could you use (2) solid arms connected via short pieces of rope on each end to connect to the rescued vehicle to allow for full movement but also would stop the recovered vehicle from hitting the rear of Towmater? Keep up the great content!
Thanks, Trent
This was great to listen to! Thank you for putting this out there
Glad you enjoyed it!
