He was one of the brightest young talents in the world, people rated him higher than Messi when they played together, could’ve easily been one of the worlds best but he just didn’t have the discipline
You're wrong. He was never at any point in time close to Messi's talents. While Messi was already a starter in the 1st team during his 2nd season with them (2005/06), Giovanni Dos Santos was never a starter. Saying he was rated above or even close to Messi is waaayyyyyy over board.
Jeffrey Jeffery Watch the game where he scored the hattrick. Messi struggled, he was frustrated because gio was scoring the goals not him. Just saying if gio wouldve stayed and they gave him the same opportunities messi did it would be a completely different story.
The story of our “Golden Genereation” so many young talents like Carlos Vela and Gio Dos Santos never took football seriously. Young Mexican talents never seem to meet expectations
Rafa marquez, Francisco Maza Rodríguez, pavél pardo, Carlos salcedo, Andrés guardado, Guillermo Ochoa, raul Jimenez, Jesus Corona a few talents that achieved a lot in there youth
Thats the problem with mexican players, once they make it. They stop taking it seriously. I stopped cheering for my national team a while ago. They only disappoint
Dante Rangel Maza did ok in Europe, Salcedo was good at Frankfurt and let Fabians influence bring him down. But Gio and Carlos Vela were expected to be WORLD talents not mediocre players. Vela was groomed to be the next Henry for Arsenal never even came close. Why do we win so many sub 17 world cups but don’t even come close to seeing those young players flourish. It’s a mediocre Mexican mentality
He drank too much, no discipline, and he used to go out a lot with ronalhino... that is what plagues Mexican players who show promise... they loved to party and do not know how to handle the fame
My favorite moment of Gio in Mexico was ofc when he scored a chip against USA. As of November 2021 he's not even playing. He's a free agent and didn't meet expectations at America. He lost his dad zizinho sadly and he's on his second hiatus from football after being released from LA Galaxy back in 2019.
@@yaquelinalfaro3301 nothing he just doesn’t take football seriously because apparently he likes “basketball” more and apparently he moved to LA to watch lakers games
If you look at his career backwards, it's actually pretty amazing: from a local mexican club, to L.A. Galaxy, then to La Liga mid tier clubs, Galatasaray, Tottenham and finally Barcelona.
But reality it is the opposite. He started from the top and kept descending after, wouldn't be surprising if I find him playing for a small football neighborhood club lol
The problem with calling a player the next Messi, is when that player stops thinking "wait a minute Im not the next Messi, I am myself and Ill be better than messi".
Dos santos was beast I wish he would’ve took the right path this guy had a natural talent amazing with the ball he could’ve been up there with Cristiano and Messi another thing I really love from dos Santos was a very explosive player with nice ball control amazing and it kicks🤯
Still he was nowhere near gio dos santos talent!! Not saying this bcz I’m Mexican I’m just spitting facts, btw I’m not the type of Mexican that says that Jimenez is better than Pulisic bcz ik that’s not tru.
I wouldn't call the trajectory of careers like that of Dos Santos a failure. At the end of the day, he's a professional baller and he earns a lot of money. Many successful average joes don't have that. To call someone a flop because he's not in the pantheon of the all-time greats is ridiculous and is only what a perfectionist would say.
I don't think he would have been at Messi or Ronaldo's level but he could have been just a tiny bit tier below them, like tier 1.B . The talent was there. He had it all. Speed, quickness, shooting, passing. The thing was his mentality and lack of discipline. He's scored some great goals. Never will forget the ones against Real Madrid and USA at the gold cup.
It's Christian Benteke Liolo: 1. He played in the FIFA U17 World Cup with Belgium U17 in 2007. 2. He played with Liverpool in the 2015-16 season. 3. His younger brother's name is Jonathan Benteke Lifeka, Who play's for Alemannia Aachen right now.
As a kid I loved watching Dos Santos. I kept hearing great things about him and was extrodinary when playing. He had some serious skills. As a Mexican i was happy seeing one of us striving in the sport and really making a name for himself and then boom. You know the rest. Such a tragedy. He's like RG3 what could have been. Imagine if he had CR7 work ethic and discipline. He could have really been at the top.
Stop with the “next Messi” thing, I never heard of that myself... but I did hear he said he was better than both Messi and Ronnie during his time at Barca😂😂
Jona has been one of the best defensive midfielders in MLS in the past couple years. He scored the only goal in the 2019 Gold Cup final to win the Gold Cup for Mexico. He's been the better of the Dos Santos brothers in the past few years.
I am Mexican and follow Mexican futbol, he is nowhere near another World Cup. There is much competition in Mexico right now and his age will not help him either
Talents not all in this life hard work to and also talent won't get you far you have to be strong minded and a strong body if not you will always be getting injured

True, but that was the player's fault in the first place, as mentioned, Dos Santos lacked professionalism ("was labeled a party boy")
