- In 1989, on the sets of Ganashatru, the Master himself, sitting and observing the progress of his film.
Legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray during the making of a Bengali movie. He sits on the sets of one of his movie observing the progress and instructs accordingly. He discusses the scene with his actors and assistant, planning to wrap up on 19th instead of 20th.
Satyajit Ray was born in Calcutta on May 2, 1921. His father, Late Sukumar Ray was an eminent poet and writer in the history of Bengali literature. His first movie Pather Panchali (1955) won several International Awards and set Ray as a world-class director. He died on April twenty-third, 1992. Was voted the twenty-fifth greatest director of all time by Entertainment Weekly. He was made a Fellow of the British Film Institute in recognition of his outstanding contribution to film culture.

After suffering two massive heart attacks, a by-pass surgery and two other surgeries, here the legend was, back to his pavilion after three long years of desperation to get back to work. He was permitted to shoot only indoors (which meant no location shooting), had to refrain himself from operating the camera himself now (which was actually a very tiring task), and the long period of illness had taken a toll on his health, reducing his weight to a great extent. Just before his illness, he had to bear the sudden and tragic loss of his dear friend and art director of majority of his films, Bangshi Chandragupta. We can only try hard to imagine how regal the situation used to be, when the King was in his best of health and spirits. Take a bow, Maharaja !!

There is no word to describe Satyajit Ray. When we talk about entertainment movie we think of hero heroine, villian action drama, hero fighting with 20 bad guys, heroine dancing around trees. Beyond that we cannot think. Our thinking stops. From here Satyajit Ray starts. He has changed the definition of cinema. He has gone beyond the concept of box office collection.
