When an entire train originates on one railway and is transported on another the receiving railway puts it's own engines on but sometimes per agreement has to have an engine from the original railway.I see it out here in Southern California,a Norfolk Southern engine on a Union Pacific train coming through Colton,CA.

I live near the New York and Atlantic railway and always see New York and Atlantic freight trains going by

NY and A railroad runs on Long Island. They were probably transporting it to fresh pond yard or something to get it on the lirr/NYAR line
