Thank you for being a no-nonsense reviewer. I have many of the same criticisms you do of people that review these products. Some people act like a product has to be totally automated or they won't use it. When in fact Manuel was the way we did it in the old days and you know what I'm talking about. Thanks for being real. Thanks for telling it like it is and I'm just glad to see there's someone else out there in the world. Who knows it depends on the operator to figure out the equipment and not the other way around. I recently purchased this lens for work. I work for an event company, and we take photos of event setups and product photography. We wanted a portrait lens to take shots of new / updating team member photos now and then instead of calling out a photographer each time. Everything you said is correct, the only bug bear is the auto-focus for me but for my purposes being infrequent in controlled environments its not a deal breaker. That said I believe its a good bang for your buck lens.

yes it's worth every penny, and gets the job done without any issues.
Practical reasons. love your arguments. I bought this lens and i am amazed with the quality it produce. About sharpness, it is really sharp but i can't compare with sony lens because i don't have the budget. for bokeh it is soo good. For stabilisation, shoot stand still or put it on a tripod, no camera can be stabilised so good when shooting at 85mm focal length handheld.

People complain that it's made of plastic, then that it's heavy? Hmm. I also watched a lot of reviews before buying it. It's not just the price, but that the bokeh balls are more attractive than the cat's-eye/swirly bokeh of its Sony FE counterpart. The latest firmware corrected "focus reset," which might have been the problem with focus that people have mentioned, since the example I got focuses quite well, without hesitation. Also, I can't hear the A/F motor unless I put the lens up to my ear. For the price (up $20 from the price you cite, by the way), it's like beating the system.
Absolutely. Its one of my favorite lenses still. Its been well worth it. And at an unbeatable price.

Great review on the cheapest lens I found on Amazon, you have convinced me and just ordered this lens and an UV lens protector and looking forward to use it and test it on a Sony A7rii. Hopefully updating the firmware will help it.

I got the 50mm same brand and I took amazing shots who TF pixle peeping to see how shape it is, am not doing bill boards and top class ads people gonna post it on social media and that lower the quality anyways

great video, I find a lot of these people doing those reviews are what I call "price bigots" if it's a low priced lens they're going to say it's bad no matter how good it is lol, I totally understand buying this lens because you have a low budget because believe me I have no budget LOL

honestly either one is a good choice, however for the price the Meike is the better deal. i have used the Yongnuo 34mm 50mm 85mm and 100mm and they are all very good, but the meike is the cheaper deal, and honestly the photos turn out fantastic.

The newer 85mm f1.8 STM is a much better lens. Much quieter focusing and less hunting.

Yeah that is true.. But I think they made this "STM version" just for Sony, Fujifilm, Nikon and for Canon RF-mount. Not for EF-mount. There is just one version of this lens for EF-mount.
