      @Monotech2.0 many 90s artists are pretty painful to look at now. All those texture and shadow lines from Everyone trying to be Todd McFarlane or Scott Williams just made every book look scratchy. Almost the sole reason the art did a 180 and got minimalist today. Art from 78-88 was so clean by comparison.

    I’ve been collecting comics since 1977, and drawing professionally since the late eighties. I have always loved that Rob Liefeld completely had his own style in an industry full of clones. Like Jack Kirby and Berni Wrightson, Rob’s work is always immediately identifiable. I also loved his super dynamic layouts. I found his work to really embody the fun and action that comics were all about for me.

      @MadTheDJ 4 роки тому +22

      I'm a professional fine artist and back in the late '90s, in high school and university, I wrote and drew a little indie comic series. I like to think my work improved over those 5-6 years, mainly out of sheer repetition. Draw the same characters over and over and you refine your style very quickly. But unless you're pushing yourself to improve, being critical of possible shortcuts in your work that weaken your style, those shortcuts gradually become the norm, your baseline. It's an easy trap to fall into because of the repetition, and it requires constant monitoring to avoid.

    I remember reading comic books in the 90s, loved Liefelds work, but then I started to read other comic books and quickly noticed how anatomy and proportions work. yes, Rob Liefeld is a good introductory comic book artist and many people get introduced to comics through his artwork. I agree with the tropes, its his thing. I don't fault him for it, but yes he does have a certain style that is very very repetitive. My favorite artist is Jim Lee.

    My friend grows Reapers, and he eats everything up to ghost raw/whole with little issue...
    When I saw you have issue with the jalapeno, I knew we were in for a treat.

    I, too, liked Liefeld back in the days.
    Then, I started drawing myself - a year later, I couldn't ignore the weak points in his drawing technique.
    Also, at the time I had the impression that he was de-evolving as an artist, that he was growing increasingly sloppier as time went by.

    Having grown up on Liefeld art, I have s soft spot for his work. I can admit it isn't very good. But the memories I have.

    I like coming back to these older videos to see it how this show has progressed over the years. Watching you eat all those peppers made me think you must have had a long painful time in the bathroom the next day LOL

    *Chris takes a look at Rob Liefeld's artwork in an issue of New Mutants, listing the tropes you would be likely to see in any of his comic books. Each time he sees a trope, he eats a hot pepper.*
    Why on Earth fella would you torture yourself eating hot peppers after recognizing every Rob Liefield drawn error??! Thats just mad. Given how bad his art is!
